2 FFE INDIA TRUST AT A GLANCE About the Trust: Mission: Program: Eligibility: Process: Results: Donations: Trustees: Promoted by Foundation For Excellence, Inc. (FFE USA) a tax exempt, publicly supported charitable organization based in Santa Clara, California, USA( Registered as a Public Charitable Trust in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Registered under u/s A (a) of the IT Act, 96. Registered under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 976. Bring about a transformation in the lives of academically bright and economically underprivileged students in India by enabling them to complete their higher education in India. Provide scholarships to students pursuing studies in professional courses in Engineering, Technology and Medicine. Academic performance, family income and background. Volunteers (facilitators) and institutions, pre-registered with the Trust, identify eligible students in India and provide assistance in submitting scholarship applications to the Trust. All FFE scholars who have graduated are encouraged to fulfill their pledge to support the education of at least brilliant and needy students by making financial contributions to the Trust. Since inception until 3 March 4, 974 students assisted. Rs.8,8,73,4 disbursed as scholarships. Donations are accepted towards: () Corpus of the Trust; () General purposes of the Trust; (3) Adopt A Scholar Program, earmarked funds for scholarships to students designated by state, gender and course of study; and (4) Towards the Scholarship Program Donations are eligible for tax deduction u/s 8G of the IT Act. India Trust is registered under FCRA (the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act), 976. Rs. 8,43,99,365 received as donations since inception to 3 March 4 (excluding the grant from FFE Inc.USA), with Rs.,6,54,4 being contributions from FFE scholars. Venktesh Shukla, Rishikesha T. 3 FOUNDATION FOR EXCELLENCE INDIA TRUST The Trustees of Foundation For Excellence India Trust are pleased to present the highlights of the work of the Trust for the year ended 3 March 4. From the start of FY -, FFE India Trust, Bengaluru has been responsible for the implementation of the Foundation For Excellence Inc. (FFE), USA's Scholarship Program in India. The Trust's activities in India has expanded to include scholar services, alumni outreach, Facilitator engagement and raising funds with a special impetus to create awareness about the Foundations' activities. FY 3-4 saw an increased growth in the Trust's activities in these focus areas. Scholarship Program FFE India Trust awarded 69 scholarships amounting to Rs. 7,46,55, during FY 3-4 as compared to 94 scholarships for an amount of Rs. 4,55,7,49 during FY -3. FFE Inc. awarded a grant directly to the FCRA account of FFE India Trust for the fourth year. Of the 69 scholarships, 85 scholarships for an amount of Rs. 5,7,35, were funded out of the grant provided by FFE Inc. USA; the remaining 779 scholarships amounting to Rs.,9,, were funded out of donations raised by the Trust. Of the 69 scholarships awarded during FY 3-4, 69(inclusive of 9 Engineering and 5 Medical) were new, first time scholarships while,46 were renewal scholarships. The most significant change to the Scholarship Program was the implementation of an online technology platform for the scholarship application process. This new online process allowed students around India to apply directly to FFE through an online preliminary form; the process of qualifying the student continued, with eligible students being matched to Facilitators who conducted further verification. Details of scholarship disbursement to the 69 students by state and gender are detailed in Annexure. Management of FFE India Trust Four meetings of the Board of Trustees were held during the year financial year 3-4; meetings were held on April 3, on th June 3, on 9th October 3 and the fourth on th October 3. Activities and Outreach FFE Open House events to build and connect the growing FFE community were held in 6 cities during FY 3-4. FFE stakeholders including students, alumni, facilitators, volunteers, individual and corporate donors, and community partners gathered together at these series of events; students were awarded the prestigious FFE Scholarship at some of these public gatherings which was a collaboration between FFE and FFE alumni state chapters that were operational. FFE Open House events were held in Dharwad on 8th September 3; Pune on 9th September 3; Bengaluru on th October 3; Chennai on th November 3, Kolkata on nd February 4 and culminated in Ahmedabad on 3rd February
4 FFE Founder, Dr. Prabhu Goel participated in the Open House event in Pune, and together with industry and community leaders, who support FFE, had an opportunity to meet and interact with the larger FFE family. Eminent Guests of Honour who participated in FFE's events included Mr. Gopichand Katragadda, Managing Director, GE India Technology Center, and Mr. T V Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Manipal Global Education Services at the Bangalore Open House; Dr. R A Mashelkar, National Research Professor, Chancellor AcSIR & President, Global Research Alliance, and Mr. Ravi Pandit, Chairman & Group CEO, KPIT Cummins Infosystems in Pune; Dr. M B Chetti, Director of Education, University of Agricultural Science in Dharwad; Mr. T P Raman, Former CEO, Sundaram Mutual Fund in Chennai; Mr. Sanjay Jain, Managing Director, TT Textiles and Mr. Debasish Mitter, Country Head, Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) in Kolkata and Mr. K H Patel Chairman, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Dr. Ashish Nanda, Director, IIM Ahmedabad at the Ahmedabad Open House. The power of networking, and enriching the growing FFE community through participation at community events held nationwide by FFE, leveraging the network of FFE stakeholders and contributing to the growth of FFE through contributions of time, connecting to corporates and new donors and donating to FFE to make it a self-sustaining organization were key messages conveyed at each of these events. Alumni were encouraged to stay connected with FFE and to the alumni network by leveraging social media (Facebook, Linked In) and engaging with FFE scholars. FFE Trustees interacted with over FFE stakeholders during FY 3-4, mainly through participation at FFE Open House events and local meetings organized for soft skills training. FFE alumni whose contributions to the Foundation were noteworthy were honored at these events, including an award of a Certificate of Excellence to celebrate their successes. The Alumni Chapters in 5 states (Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat and West Bengal) continue to promote FFE's mission through local activities and are connecting to other state chapters. The FFE Scholars' Association web portal, sa.ffe.org continues to promote and publicize FFE's nationwide activities. It also serves an important role for FFE alumni to network socially and professionally, to collaborate on projects, to seek help from peers or for mentorship and to contribute to FFE's growth. Donations to the Trust The Trust received a grant of Rs. 4,68,84,846 from FFE USA in FY 3-4. In addition, the Trust raised donations amounting to Rs. 4,7,5,369.3 as compared to Rs.,5,95,894 in FY -3. This included donations of Rs. 9,6,77 from 96 FFE alumni as compared to Rs. 5,79,999 from 6 FFE Scholars during FY -3; of these, 8 alumni were new donors to the Trust. Donations included a significant grant from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, USA to support the education of 4 Engineering students from urban India; from Give India; from KLA-Tencor Foundation, Chennai; from Cognizant Technology Solutions India Private Limited, Chennai; from Praxair Foundation through United Way Worldwide; from Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Limited, Bangalore; from Indication Instruments Ltd., Faridabad; from Bill Forge Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore; from Ashok Leyland Limited, Chennai; from Bally Cares, Bangalore; from 3M India Limited, Bangalore; from OCM India Limited, Punjab; Analog Devices India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore; Kanors Consultants, Noida; Accel India Management Co. Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore; Caterpillar India Pvt. Ltd. Bangalore; India Value Fund Advisory, Mumbai; Microsoft Employee contributions through CAF India and CISCO employee matching grants through CAF America. Donations included Rs. 75,79,5 to the Corpus of the Trust, Rs.34,4,98 to the General Fund, Rs. 8,7,535 to the Scholarship Fund and Rs.,79,4,63 to the Adopt A Scholar Program
5 Category wise Donations to FFE India Trust: 3-4 (in Indian Rupees) Category of Donor Accounts The accounts of the Trust for the year ended 3 March 4 as audited by Shri G S Prakash, Chartered Accountant, are appended. Excluding donations of Rs.75,79,5 to the Corpus, the Trust earned income of Rs.9,,76,9 during FY 3-4. Of this amount, remittances from FFE, USA accounted for Rs.4,68,84,846 and Rs.93,78,55 from Cognizant Outreach towards the Cognizant Outreach Scholarship Programme. Donations to the General Fund and the Scholarship Program accounted for Rs.3,3,73,8 and interest on investments and bank deposits for Rs.7,39,63. The Trust disbursed Rs. 7,46,55, on FFE scholarships and Rs.93,78,55 on Cognizant Outreach Scholarships. The Trust incurred Rs.7,87,366 as administrative expenses (excluding depreciation of Rs. 3,,58 ) with an excess of income over expenditure of Rs. -44,788. The Trustees thank all donors for their support and generosity. We also thank our Facilitators and volunteers whose consistent support and participation is invaluable to us. The Trustees look forward to another exciting year of growth of the Scholarship Program, expanding our base of donors, Facilitators and active alumni, extended engagement with all FFE stakeholders, leveraging the growing community network, to launching new initiatives and to your sustained support.
