2 Honorable William H. Webster Distinguished Service Award On November 29, 2017, the first annual Honorable William H. Webster Distinguished Service Award Dinner takes place at The Ritz-Carlton in Washington, DC. This International Spy Museum event honors an individual who has served the nation in the field of National Security with integrity and distinction. The MuseumÕs award is named for Judge William H. Webster, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (the only individual to have held both offices) Ñ a man whose reputation for probity and forthrightness is the standard by which all others are measured. Before serving the intelligence community, Judge Webster was a distinguished jurist of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and of the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Since retirement from public office, Judge Webster has practiced law at the Washington DC office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy where he specializes in arbitration, mediation, and internal investigation. Judge Webster is currently the Chairman of the Homeland Security Advisory Council and a founding member of the International Spy Museum Advisory Board of Directors. Judge Webster has a long record of distinguished service to our country; the International Spy Museum is pleased to name this award in his honor. Along with the Webster Award, the International Spy Museum will also distribute the International Spy Museum Corporate Intelligence Award to a business that has gone above and beyond to create a new standard of excellence in intelligence service. The International Spy Museum Executive Director s Award will be presented to an individual that has devoted his or her life to serving the Intelligence Community. The International Spy Museum (SPY) introduces more than 600,000 visitors each year to the secretive world of espionage and intelligence. People travel across the US and the world to explore the only public museum in the United States solely dedicated to the craft, practice, history, and contemporary role of espionage and the only one in the world to tackle the field of intelligence from a global perspective. Our primary focus is on education. Our youth programming concentrates on activities that expand knowledge of world history and develop key STEAM and critical thinking skills. Our student programs meet National Curriculum and Common Core Standards and we work in partnership with Excellence in Education to organize teacher workshops annually that ensure our programs reach the highest marks in education. We also hold an annual ÒEducator Night OutÓ event to offer teachers free educational resources, exclusive access to the Museum, and information about year-round student workshops. Our goal is for visitors of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities to uncover the shadow world of espionage. To achieve this objective, we have a number of community outreach programs that bring underserved audiences to the Museum. Since opening in 2002, SPY has offered free admission to all Title I schools in the region and deep discounts on workshops. Since 2011, the Museum has welcomed more than 8,000 students through this program, nearly half of whom have also participated in an educational workshop during their visit. SPY also provides general admission discounts for active duty military, fire, and law enforcement personnel. The newest addition to our community outreach programming is Access to SPY. In 2016, the Museum hosted the first-ever Access to Spy: Opening our Doors to the Autism Community day, where we invited families with children on the autism spectrum to visit the Museum without the sensory triggers that make SPY a challenging destination. We are currently planning another Access to Spy: Opening our Doors to the Autism Community day, December 2017 and Access to Spy: Interpreting SPY, an evening designed to provide guests who are deaf or hard of hearing with an opportunity to enjoy the Museum and its resources.
