Searcy Treasurer March 9, 2018 Dear Sir/Madam: The Gregg County Bar Association is funding up to three scholarships to honor high school seniors for $1,000 apiece. Seniors from any Gregg County high school (public, private or charter) may apply. Only one scholarship will be given per family per year. Gregg County Bar Association family members are eligible for the scholarship. When awarding the scholarship, the selection committee will take into consideration the applicant s grade point average, school and community involvement, need and the quality, content and completeness of the applicant s response to the Application and corresponding essays. To be considered, please be sure and submit: Completed Application with Two Short Answers and Two Essays; Official or Unofficial Transcript; Headshot (or acceptable photograph) to be ed to the below. By submitting an application, the applicant is agreeing that their name, headshot/photo, essay and/or short answer may be shared by Gregg County Bar Association. 2 Gregg County Bar Association Scholarship Award Requirements and Eligibility To be considered for one of the Scholarships, an applicant must adhere to the following guidelines: 1. The Gregg County Bar Association Scholarship award is for seniors in any public or private high school (including charter schools) in Gregg County, including but not limited to the following: Longview High School, Pine Tree High School, White Oak High School, Spring Hill High School, Christian Heritage School, Trinity School of Texas, Longview Christian School, East Texas Christian School, East Texas Charter School, Sabine High School, Kilgore High School, and Gladewater High School. 2. The applicant must enroll in a minimum course load of 12 semester hours for the 2018 Fall semester.* 3. Only one scholarship will be given per family per year. 4. Gregg County Bar Association family members are eligible for a scholarship. 5. Applicant must submit the completed scholarship application and essay to Gregg County Bar Association by 12:00 p.m. to be received on or before April 14, * A receipt of enrollment in a minimum of 12 semester hours must be provided in order to receive the scholarship funds. Suite 100, Longview, Texas or kristenpauls@gmail.com Scholarship Information Up to three (3) Gregg County Bar Association scholarships will be awarded annually in the amount of $1,000. Gregg County Bar Association officers will be responsible for reviewing scholarship applications and essays. The selection of scholarship recipients will be based on the applicant s high school grade point average (GPA), the quality, content, and completeness of the essay, need of the applicant, as well as school and community involvement. The decision of the scholarship committee is final. Checks will be issued to the scholarship recipient s school of choice. Funds will be disbursed in one (1) installment: the installment will be paid following enrollment in the fall semester and receipt of enrollment. Fall semester scholarship funds must be claimed by November 1, 2018.

3 Essay Instructions Essay must be 500 words or less, typed, 12 pt. font, Times New Roman, double-spaced, within 1 margins. Applicants must submit two essay responses of these four options: 1. If you had the authority to change your community in a positive way, what specific changes would you make? 2. Describe how you have demonstrated leadership ability both in and out of school. 3. Pick an experience from your own life and explain how it has influenced you. 4. What do you consider to be the most important issue facing our community (please limit to one: locally, nationally or globally)?
