Maintain a minimum 3.00 SUNY Oswego cumulative GPA Anne 53 and Kenneth 54 Sherman Education Scholarship 1,3 (ACNT 6464) Amount: $400 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by family and friends of Anne 53 and Kenneth 54 Sherman in honor of their 60th wedding anniversary. Passionate about education, the Shermans have dedicated their lives to teaching in the local public schools. This scholarship is to support motivated future educators, recognizing a student in the School of Education with financial need who demonstrates a commitment to pursuing a career in teaching. 2 Class of 1953 Memorial Scholarship 1,2,3,5,6 (ACNT 6379) Amount: $2,000 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 To commemorate their 50th anniversary the members, friends and relatives of the graduating class of 1953 established a scholarship in memory of those classmates who have passed on. This scholarship will be awarded in the spring to recognize an outstanding student in the School of Education who is committed to pursuing a career in teaching. To qualify for this award a student must: a. Be a full-time student in the School of Education pursuing a career in teaching b. Be enrolled as a sophomore or junior (completed credits, including transfer credits, by the end of this year s winter session.) c. Demonstrate promise and commitment to the field of education d. Class of 1954 Scholarship 1,2,3,5 (ACNT 6445) Amount: $1900 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, The Class of 1954 established the Class of 54 Scholarship in honor of their 55th Anniversary reunion. This scholarship is to benefit a student within the School of Education. Selection will be made by the School of Education scholarship committee. To qualify for this award a student must be: a. Enrolled in the School of Education b. Maintain a minimum 3.00 SUNY Oswego cumulative GPA c. Have financial need d. Students must re-apply annually to be considered for this scholarship Constance LaRock Seeber 53 and Ada Linsler 37 Scholarship 1,2,3 (ACNT 6441) Amount: $1,700 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established in 2008 by Charles C. Seeber and family to honor the life works of two outstanding teachers. Between them they dedicated over 70 years to being role models and teaching children in first through sixth grades. In addition, this scholarship is meant to provide help and encouragement to others that they may follow in the footsteps of these prior graduates. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Be a New York State resident b. Demonstrate financial need c. Be a full-time declared childhood education major d. Apply in their junior year for receipt in their senior year (completed credits, including transfer credits, by the end of this year s winter session.) e. Edward 62 and Janet Albreght Heinrich 63 Scholarship 1,3 (ACNT 6468) Amount: $400 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by Edward 62 and Janet Albreght Heinrich 63. Both Ed and Janet graduated from SUNY Oswego with degrees in education: Ed from industrial arts education and Janet from elementary education. This scholarship was created to financially assist a student in the School of Education who demonstrates a strong commitment to the field of education. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Be a declared major in the School of Education. b. Be a sophomore or junior (having completed credits, including transfer credits) c. Submit an essay demonstrating commitment to the field of education d. Whenever possible, preference will be given to a veteran Father Robert E. Hall Memorial Scholarship 1,2,3 (ACNT 6357) Amount: $1,150 each / Recipient: Two / Deadline: Feb. 8, 2016 Contact: Office of Alumni Relations (315) This scholarship was established by friends and SUNY Oswego alumni to honor the late Father Robert E. Hall for his commitment to the Oswego Community and SUNY Oswego campus. Father Hall served at St. Mary s Church in Oswego starting in 1949, being named pastor in During his tenure in Oswego, he also served as chaplain of the Newman Center, and now the center bears his name. He was considered a friend to all students. His dedication was instrumental in improving the quality of life for the campus community. Demonstrated commitment to community service and volunteer work comprises the major criteria in the selection process for this award. Qualified applicants must: a. Be enrolled in the School of Education b. Be a sophomore or junior (completed credits, including transfer credits) by the end of this year s winter session. c. 4 Florence Ellen Williams Kelly 31 Scholarship 1,3 (ACNT 6475) Amount: $1,000 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by Edward S. Kelly in memory of his mother, Florence Ellen Williams Kelly 31, for the purpose of providing an annual scholarship for a student majoring in Education at SUNY Oswego who has financial need. Florence was a first grade teacher in Middletown, NY. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Be a resident of New York state b. Be a graduate of a public high school in Oswego County c. Be a declared education major d. Maintain a minimum 2.75 SUNY Oswego cumulative GPA e. Apply in his/her sophomore year (completed credits, including transfer credits, by the end of this year s winter session.) f. Have financial need that includes at least half of tuition and fees paid for by student and/or parent loans Frank and Ruth Sayer Education Scholarship 1,3 (ACNT 6459) Amount: $1,350 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by Ruth and Frank Sayer to recognize a student in the School of Education who is committed to pursuing a career in teaching and shows signs of good citizenship and being a positive role model for children. Members of the Oswego community, the Sayers made service to the community, to SUNY Oswego and to other philanthropic causes a hallmark of their lives. The intent of this scholarship is to support the need for motivated teachers who will someday also choose to give back to someone else. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who best meets the following criteria: a. Be a full-time student enrolled in the School of Education b. Be a freshman, sophomore or junior (having earned 0-86 credits, including transfer credits, by the end of this year s winter session.) c. French 65 Scholarship 1,3 (ACNT 6428) Amount: $1000 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 Contact: Office of Alumni Relations (315) This scholarship was established by Gileen Widmer French 65 to honor devoted Education majors that enthusiastically embrace the idea of public education. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Have completed at least one year of study at SUNY Oswego. Preference will be given to students from Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Niagara counties. Preference will also be given to students within the School of Education and/or School of Business depending upon the number of scholarships available. b. Submit a formal resume that reflects the importance of your own personal education and your public and community service.

5 Gillespie/Pietroski Scholarship 1,2,3 (ACNT 6380) Amount: $1,300 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This award was established by M. Jean Pietroski 71, 74 to honor the lives and accomplishments of her parents, Milton Hope and Marjorie Lucy (Roth) Gillespie. The scholarship is intended to recognize an individual who demonstrates courage, determination and enthusiasm for learning. To qualify for this award a student must: a. Be a non-traditional student, preferably from the Phoenix Central School system or Oswego County, returning to school after at least a ten-year interruption in formal education. b. Be a full-time junior (completed credits, including transfer credits, by the end of this year s winter session) enrolled in the School of Education pursuing a degree leading to teacher certification at SUNY Oswego. c. Be a person of sound character who exhibits commitment to his/her higher education. d. Maintain a minimum 3.00 SUNY Oswego cumulative GPA e. Demonstrate financial need James and Mildred Menera Memorial Scholarship 1,2,3,6 (ACNT 6522) Amount: $1,000 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by Virginia Menera Trevor 65 in memory of her parents, James and Mildred Menera, who encouraged her to pursue a career in teaching. Her Oswego education prepared her well and she spent 33 years happily teaching elementary school. This scholarship will support a deserving student in the School of Education with financial need. A preference will be given to firstgeneration college students. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Be a full-time student in good standing enrolled in the School of Education. b. Have a minimum 3.00 GPA. c. Have demonstrated financial need. d. Apply in his/her sophomore or junior year (having completed credits, including transfer credits) e. Preference will be given to a first-generation college student. f. Submit an essay indicating why he/she wants to become a teacher. John P. Moroney & Frances Murphy Moroney Merit Scholarship 1,3,6 (ACNT 6386) Amount: $5,000 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 Contact: Office of Alumni Relations (315) Established in 2003 by Dr. Frances Moroney Whited 44, Professor Emeritus of SUNY College at Brockport, the John P. Moroney & Frances Murphy Moroney Scholarship is in memory of her parents John and Frances Murphy Moroney; her sister, Marie Moroney Fox 40; her brother, John J. Moroney; and her brother, William J. Moroney. The scholarship commemorates the Moroney Family s commitment to higher education and their interest in supporting academic excellence. Interested students must meet the academic criteria set forth in SUNY Oswego s Presidential and Merit Scholarship Program, however, they cannot be a current Presidential Scholar. The additional criteria shall include: a. Be a declared Childhood Education major b. Begin receiving this award during his/her sophomore year (must apply during his/her freshman year) (completed 0 26 credits, including transfer credits, by the end of this year s

6 winter session.) c. Demonstrate a commitment to teaching at the childhood level d. Peterson '54 Scholarship 1,2,3 (ACNT 6454) Amount: $500 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by family in memory of Kathleen A. Peterson 54 (d. 1999) for the purpose of providing an annual scholarship for a student majoring in Education at SUNY Oswego. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Be a full-time student enrolled in the School of Education. b. Apply in his/her sophomore or junior year (completed credits, including transfer credits, by the end of this year's winter session) c. Maintain a minimum 3.00 SUNY Oswego cumulative GPA d. Submit an essay on why he/she wants to be a teacher. e. Preference will be given to a student who demonstrates a history of volunteerism. Linda E. Schultheis Crawford 60 Scholarship 1,2,3 (ACNT 6494) Amount: $1,050 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by Linda E. Schultheis Crawford 60 as a celebration of being the first in her family to attend college. Funds awarded to her enabled the completion of a B.S. in Education at SUNY Oswego and were the beginning of a lifetime love of learning and a rewarding teaching career. In the spirit of paying it forward, this scholarship seeks to reward an individual pursuing a career in teaching children in grades 1-6 who has demonstrated a commitment to helping others through community involvement and volunteerism. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Be a citizen of the U.S. and a N.Y. State resident b. Be enrolled at SUNY Oswego as a full-time student in the School of Education as a childhood education major at the time of selection. c. Apply in freshman or sophomore year (0-56 credits completed, including transfer credits) for award the following academic year. d. Maintain a minimum 3.00 SUNY Oswego cumulative GPA e. Provide documentation of participation in/or initiation of a project that advanced a cause or bettered conditions for members of the community. Documentation needs to include a brief description of the project and should also include some form of other supporting documentation such as a letter of recommendation, newspaper articles, videos, or photos.

7 Mary E. Laing Scholarship 1,2,3 (ACNT 6617) Amount: $750 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This award originated in the will of Mary E. Laing, a pioneer educator at the Oswego Normal School. It was first given in 1948 and has been given each year since then to a student majoring in an undergraduate teacher education program. Candidates for this scholarship will be evaluated on the basis of high personal character, leadership and a strong record of academic achievement. To qualify for this award a student must: a. Be a full-time matriculated student in the School of Education b. Be a junior (completed credits, including transfer credits, by the end of this year s winter session.) c. Maintain a minimum 3.60 SUNY Oswego cumulative GPA Susan Feola Wain 69 Scholarship 2,4, ⁵ (ACNT 6419) Amount: $1,200 / Recipient: One This scholarship was established by Susan Feola Wain 69 to assist students who have been identified by faculty/staff as being passionate about their education profession and who believe in the potential for lifelong learning. Nomination and selection are made by the School of Education faculty. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Have a declared major in the School of Education b. Have a minimum 3.00 SUNY Oswego GPA c. Be a sophomore or junior at the time of selection to receive the following year. Stan Levenson 54 Scholarship 1,2,3,5 (ACNT 6390) Amount: $1,500 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by Dr. Stanley Levenson 54 to commemorate his 50th anniversary. Dr. Levenson has been an elementary school teacher at all grade levels, a school principal, a districtlevel administrator, a college professor, an educational consultant, and a freelance writer. Faculty members of the School of Education will nominate recipients. Interested students should contact professor from the department. To qualify for this award a student must: a. Be enrolled in the SUNY Oswego School of Education b. Demonstrate financial need. c. Maintain a minimum 3.00 SUNY Oswego cumulative GPA d. Have a demonstrated interest in athletics e. Ted 72 & Jane Friedlander Jenny 71 Education Scholarship 1,2,3,5 (ACNT 6440) Amount: $1,300 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by Ted 72 and Jane Friedlander Jenny 71 to highlight the need for highly qualified and motivated childhood education teachers. This scholarship will be awarded to recognize an outstanding student in the School of Education who is committed to pursuing a career in

8 teaching children in grades 1 6. Faculty members from the School of Education will nominate and select recipients. To qualify for this award, students must: a. Be enrolled as a sophomore or junior (completed credits, including transfer credits, by the end of this year s winter session), full-time student in the School of Education as a childhood education major at the time of selection b. Vogel in loving memory of his wife, Virginia G. Gibson Vogel 56. This scholarship will provide financial assistance to a student in the School of Education who is committed to pursuing a career in teaching. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Be a full-time student with an education major b. Be a sophomore or junior (completed credits, including transfer credits, by the end of this year s winter session.) c. Maintain a minimum 3.00 SUNY Oswego cumulative GPA d. Be a resident of the city of Oswego. Second preference will be given to a resident of Oswego county Donald Snygg Graduate Scholarship see p.14 (Graduate Studies) Lucy Wing Memorial Fund 2, ⁴,⁵ (ACNT 6350) Amount: $1,200 / Recipient: One Contact: Counseling and Psychological Services Department, Mahar Hall Lucy Wing initiated and developed a graduate counseling program in the late 1960s. Named to honor the memory of distinguished faculty member, Dr. Lucy Wing (d.1974), this award recognizes a student who completes a research project of quality. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Be enrolled in a program under direction of the Counseling and Psychological Services department b. Have completed or contributed a research project of outstanding quality. Nominations are made by the department.

9 Thomas H. Chapman Memorial Award 2, ⁴,⁵ (ACNT 6652) Amount: $1,300 / Recipient: One Contact: Counseling and Psychological Services Department, Mahar Hall This award is given to a graduate student who exemplifies the philosophy of life of Thomas Chapman, who was director of the Counseling Center ( ). Thomas Chapman (d.1986) lived life to the fullest emphasized body, mind and spirit. Not only was he a scholar and counselor, he was also a tri-athlete. Thomas Chapman lived and taught the wellness model, and he was one of the pioneers who brought the wellness model to SUNY Oswego. The award was funded by members of the university community. The recipient is chosen by the faculty of the Counseling and Psychological Services department. Nominations are made by the department Charles A. Leonard and Margaret S. Leonard Scholarship 1,2,3 (ACNT 6401) Amount: $4,600 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This award was established by Joan K. Leonard (B.S. 1954, M.S. 1958) in memory of her parents Charles A. Leonard and Margaret S. Leonard. To qualify for this award a student must: a. Be a full-time student with an Education major b. Be enrolled as a junior (completed credits, including transfer credits, by deadline) at the time of selection c. Maintain a 3.30 SUNY Oswego GPA or better d. Demonstrate leadership qualities e. Be committed to the field of education f. Be a graduate of an Oswego County high school Finter-Yager Scholarship 1,2,3 (ACNT 6640) Amount: $3,000 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 A deserving student must be: a. A Secondary Education major with a concentration in the physical sciences (chemistry, earth science, or physics) b. A junior or sophomore (completed credits by deadline). c. Above are not to be sole criterion. Receipt of award might make the difference between being able or unable to return to college. Greta O Brien Murabito 43 Scholarship 1,2,3, ⁵ (ACNT 6355) Amount: $3,225 each / Recipient(s): Two / Deadline: Feb. 8, 2016 This award was established for Greta O Brien Murabito 43 by her husband, Anthony J. Murabito, in recognition and appreciation for SUNY Oswego and its dedicated and caring faculty. This scholarship is intended to inspire, encourage, and stimulate active participation in the life of the college via the pursuit of a childhood course of study. To qualify for this award a student must: a. Be a sophomore or junior (completed credits, including transfer credits, by deadline) during the spring semester b. Be enrolled in the School of Education as a childhood education major c. Have a 3.00 or better cumulative SUNY Oswego GPA d. Demonstrate financial need

Hewitt Scholarship Fund 1,2,3 (ACNT 6359) Amount: $1,450 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by Ms. Hazel Hewitt 29 (d.2003) in recognition of and appreciation for the preparation and education of future teachers. The award is intended to inspire, encourage, and stimulate active participation in the life of the university via the pursuit of a childhood education course of study. LaRose 65, M 75 Education Scholarship 1,3 (ACNT 6525) Amount: $1,000 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by John R. LaRose 65, M 75 to commemorate his 50th anniversary of teaching. He has been involved with education at all levels from elementary to college to coaching. The scholarship is offered to support a student in the School of Education who is committed to pursuing a career in teaching and shows signs of good citizenship and being a positive role model for children. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Be a full-time matriculated student in the School of Education pursuing a career in teaching (elementary or secondary) b. Demonstrate financial need c. Demonstrate a potential for leadership. d. Maintain a minimum 2.75 SUNY Oswego cumulative GPA. e. Have participated in extracurricular activities. f. Submit a short word essay describing his/her leadership experience(s). Lisa Frank Memorial Scholarship 1,2,3 (ACNT 6606) Amount: $500 / Recipient: One / Deadline: February 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by the classmates of Lisa Frank, a student of African American descent who died of a crippling disease in her third year at SUNY Oswego. Students participated in a skip a meal plan to support the establishment of the scholarship. It recognizes a student majoring in childhood education who has demonstrated academic excellence and service. Faculty members of the Curriculum and Instruction Department will nominate applicants. To qualify a student must: a. Be enrolled in the School of Education as a childhood education major b. Be a junior (completed credits, including transfer credits, by deadline) at the time of selection c. Hold a 3.30 or better cumulative SUNY Oswego GPA d. Possess excellent critical thinking skills and demonstrate commitment to profession education.

11 Lynn Nagy Farrar 61 Endowed Scholarship 1,2,3,6 (ACNT 6512) Amount: $1,000 each / Recipient: One / Deadline: Feb. 8, 2016 This scholarship was established by Neil and Lynn Nagy Farrar 61 to support a deserving student with financial need majoring in the School of Education who shows promise and commitment to the field of education. Lynn spent many wonderful and challenging years teaching at the middle school level. Both Lynn and Neil want to provide others the opportunity to have this fulfilling experience as well. To qualify for this award, a student must: a. Be a full-time student enrolled in the School of Education. b. Have demonstrated financial need c. Have a minimum 3.00 SUNY Oswego GPA d. Demonstrate promise and commitment to the field of education e. Apply in his/her freshman, sophomore or junior year (having completed credits, including transfer credits) f.
