5 LLL Programme General Priorities for 2012 Develop strategies for LLL and mobility Encourage cooperation between the worlds of education, training and work Support initial and continuous training of teachers, trainers and education and training institutions managers Promote the acquisition of key competences throughout the education and training system Promote social inclusion and gender equality in education and training 5

8 TechnoTN For 2012, the TechnoTN project brings together 12 networks in science and engineering to discuss three topics of mutual interest: New skills and University Business Cooperation Attracting and retaining students Tools for enhancing mobility of students and graduates 8
9 Eurodoctorate Designing European Third Cycle Programmes in Chemistry. Creation of the Eurodoctorate Label 9
10 Joint Interface Third Cycle Degrees in Chemistry Establishing joint degrees at the doctoral level in areas at the interface of chemistry with other disciplines at least two examples: conservation science and the didactics of chemistry. Work starts in October on the doctoral programme in Didactics of Chemistry. 10
11 Comenius One of the 5 objectives of this programme is: To enhance the quality and European dimension of teacher training. 11

16 Teacher Training Is it possible to identify common and promising goals, processes and indicators for a successful and sustainable teacher education? Collect data on the training of secondary school teachers in chemistry across Europe Feasibility study on a common framework Leading to the identification of modules that could be labelled European Teacher Education modules. 16
17 University Teacher Training Training for university chemistry teachers - NAUCTS Summer Schools New project in EC2E2N: Survey what training is already done Establish a European framework Create a web-based course Use Summer Schools to evaluate and complement e- training Award Eurolecturer certificate 17
18 Improving Learning Outcomes Objective: to study learning outcomes in chemistry and chemical engineering, their selection, formulation and assessment, and teaching strategies to achieve them. Results will be published in a booklet: Implementation of outcome based education in chemistry and chemical engineering : Introduction: Bologna, Employability, Outcome-based design Learning Outcomes: Definition, Graduate profile, Generic skills, How to write LOs, Examples of LOs at different levels Programme and course design: LOs, Teaching strategies, Assessment Conclusions (challenges and advantages) Glossary 18
19 Transparency Database Enhance mobility for chemistry and chemical engineering students in Europe Development of a Web data base for description of programmes in chemistry and chemical engineering using a common template Currently 40 first-cycle and 60 second-cycle programmes in the data base. Soon to be open to the public. 19
20 Virtual Campus Exploit modern networking and computing technologies to design a suitable way of building a Europe-wide virtual campus for supporting the teaching and learning activities of the chemistry and chemical engineering community. 20
21 Summer Schools and Contests One of the contests involves producing an original product (written story, powerpoint, video, strip cartoons, poster,...) presenting the solutions that chemistry is able to provide to a sector of modern society (energy, food, health, water, new technologies,...). Open to any high school or university student (any cycle) from Italy, Spain, France, Greece, UK, Austria, Germany and Poland. Deadline is 15 October
22 Summer Schools and Contests The network also participated in a competition organised by IUPAC as part of IYC2011 activities: a Global Stamp Competition. The aim was for students (three categories: 12-14, 15-18, and undergraduates) to design a national stamp that reflects on Chemistry as a Cultural Enterprise showing the chemical impact on the culture and/or everyday life in the candidates country. 250 entries. 22

24 The Attractiveness of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Data concerning the many activities to improve the public image of chemistry and chemical engineering are being collected, categorised, and an evaluation procedure developed. Effective activities will then be disseminated. 24
25 New project An application for a new project (EC2E2N 2) will be made deadline 2 nd February Your suggestions and your participation are welcome. Croatia, Serbia and FYR Macedonia will probably be eligible. Third countries can be involved and receive a small amount of funding. 25
