3 Dear Fratres and Friends Dear Fratres and Friends, Scholarship and endowed scholarships are central to the work of AM Foundation. Your gifts and gifts from others like you provide funding for competitive scholarships ranging from a Young Scholar award given this year to 95 new members through scholarships for graduate study. All of these encourage our undergraduate members to achieve their best as scholars and leaders. This work is essential. You have heard about the financial challenges faced by today s undergraduates. You and I, through our gifts, have the privilege of making a difference for nearly 200 young AM members for the academic year, with more to come in Your funds also provide important inspiration and motivation. One Young Scholar wrote, Right from the start of pledge process, our education chair told us about the Young Scholars scholarship and pushed us to do well academically we set up study hours where we met multiple times a week. Reflecting our commitment to our undergraduate and graduate members, donors created six new named scholarships for Sammies in the year. These include scholarships for a frater majoring in a specialized field; or from a specific area; or a member of a specific chapter. Donors include a foundation board member, a Beta Delta chapter member; brothers who are also both members of Mu Psi chapter; and fratres from Beta Sigma chapter. All six scholarships were awarded and now form part of the opportunities AM Foundation can offer young men pursuing higher education and their higher ideas. Thank you for your gifts and your continued support for AM Foundation. Jerry Miller Director, Sigma Alpha Mu Foundation and Chair, Sigma Alpha Mu Foundation Scholarship Committee Chapter and Faculty Advisor, Mu Psi Chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu President, 206 Mu Psi Corp Professor Emeritus, Economics, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio

4 Total Giving and Scholarships Scholarship funding from : $220,000 funded: 95 Guller Young Scholars $172,300 $192,500 $205,600 $220, scholarships assisting students at: 48 colleges and universities In memoriam: Rachel Reichner The SAM Foundation would like to recognize the outstanding achievements of Rachel Reichner. Rachel was a 2013 recipient of the Weiss Brothers Scholarship and a 2014 recipient of the Schwartz Daughters of Fratres Scholarship. She had been selected as a 2015 Schwartz Daughters scholarship recipient when the committee learned of her passing on April 4, Rachel attended Johns Hopkins University, where she was a chemical and biomolecular engineering major. She was dianosed with Ewing s sarcoma in spring of her freshman year. The scholarship commitee was awed by her continued devotion to academics throughout her treatment, as were those who knew her. She was also involved with scouting and was working toward the Summit Award, the newest and highest award in the Venture Scouting program. Rachel had many ties to Sigma Alpha Mu and the Syracuse/Eta chapter. She is the daughter of Kenneth J. Reichner (Syracuse 82), the greatgrandaughter of Eta scholarship donor Walter Rose (Syracuse 22), great niece of Stanley Rose (Syracuse 52) and Martin Rose (Syracuse 67), and great-great niece of Abe Gold and William Gold (Syracuse 21). She will be missed by all who knew her.
