3 What is Erasmus+? The European Union s programme to support education, training youth and sport Funding opportunities for students of higher education, doctoral candidates, staff and higher education institutions (HEIs) from around the world. Fosters cooperation between EU-EU (programme countries) and EU-international cooperation (with partner countries)

4 Key Action 1: Learning mobility of individuals non-degree Higher Education Students and Staff Student Mobility Duration 3-12 months To obtain credit in a host institution Credits are recognised by home institution Bachelor, Masters Students, PhD candidates Student traineeship (work placement) within max one year after graduation Staff Mobility Duration 5 days 2 months Teaching at a partner university abroad Training for teaching and non-teaching staff Combination of teaching and training

8 Key Action 2: Cooperation for Innovation and Good Practices Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) Transnational cooperation projects based on multilateral partnership Primarily between higher education institutions (HEIs) from Programme and eligible Partner Countries

9 Objectives of CBHE Support the modernisation, accessibility and internationalisation of the higher education field in the eligible Partner Countries; Support eligible Partner Countries to address the challenges facing their higher education institutions and systems: quality, relevance, access, planning, delivery, management, governance; Improve the quality of higher education in Partner countries and enhance its relevance for the labour market and society; Promote people to people contacts, intercultural awareness and understanding. 14 WHAT IS HORIZON 2020? A 80 billion research and innovation funding program ( ) A response to economic crisis by investing in future jobs and growth It addresses people's concerns about their livelihoods, safety and environment Open to the world 14

15 HORIZON 2020: Open to the world GENERAL OPENNESS Horizon 2020 is open to participation of researchers from anywhere in the world, to: 1. Any project can include international partners (ambition: increase international participation) 2. Targeted opening In some topics identified in the calls for proposals, inclusion of international partners is either: a) encouraged or b) required 3. Coordinated Calls 15

16 Rules of participation Applicants from non-eu countries are eligible to take part in Horizon 2020 programmes, even as coordinator All proposals must meet certain minimum conditions (in Rules for Participation) 16

17 Rules of participation Minimum Conditions: For standard (cooperative) research projects: 3 participants from different Member States or associated countries In addition, participants from any other country in the world can also be included For actions aimed at individuals, like European Research Council or Marie Skłodowska-Curie: 1 researcher 1 host institution 1 project 17
