1 The Greater Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Abril 2007 New And Renewed Members Anheuser-Busch Sales of Oklahoma Monthly Newsletter April 2007 With great success, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce closed their 7TH Annual Excelencia Awards Antifaz Beauty Salon Associated Centers For Therapy Azteca Motors, Inc Bank of America Cintas Corporation Circle Cinema Crosstown Learning Center, Inc María Carlota Palacios, Steve Turnbo, Honorary Chair, Lori Santiago, University of Phoenix, Xavier Neira, Rooney Holdings, Inc., the Honorable Mayor of Tulsa, Kathy Taylor, y Blanca y Manuel Gaytán, Ligero s Discotec. 240 people attended the awards ceremony to enjoy and listen to their keynote speaker, The Honorable Mayor Kathy Taylor, introduced by the honorary chair Steve Turnbo, Chairman of Schnake Turnbo Frank, Inc. public relations firm in Tulsa. Ligero s Discotec was awarded the Avance Award for Tulsa s Hispanic Business of the Year. This award profiles a growing and successful Hispanic business contributing to Tulsa s economic growth and expansion. The University of Phoenix, represented by Lori Santiago, received the Adelante Award to the corporate partner of the year. The university has been a bronze member Mayor Taylor with Adelante Award recipient University of Phoenix Lori Santiago and Sarita Diaz Pilkington Vice Chair Person of TTHCC. Mayor Taylor, Linda Williamson with the Bendaña Award Recipient Rooney Holdings, Inc., Xavier Neira. of the Chamber since Santiago is a past chair of the Hispanic Chamber, and served as President during Under Santiago s leadership, the University of Phoenix sponsors and operates the Hispanic Chamber s Small Business Academy. Now in its 3rd year, the Academy is an eight-month, 16-session course that covers everything from financing and business plans, to business law and marketing. The courses are offered in both Spanish and English. Xavier Neira accepted the Bendaña Amigo Award on behalf of Rooney Holdings Inc. The award is given for outstanding community leadership by illustrating the importance of embracing Tulsa s Hispanic community. The award goes to a company that is active in the Hispanic Chamber and its programs, and has a demonstrated record of working with Hispanic businesses both locally and nationally. This year there was more participation of Hispanic business owners thanks to Francisco Treviño, new Executive Director of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. For me it was very important to see more Hispanics at the Excelencia Awards said Francisco Treviño I want them to see what we are doing, because after all what we do here at the Hispanic Chamber, we do for them.
