2 2016 SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS 1. The deadline for returning the completed application, required documentation, high school transcript. SAT/ACT scores and essays* is Sunday, April 17, Read the criteria for each scholarship carefully. You will be considered for all the scholarships that you fulfill all the requirements. You only need to submit one application. ALL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS MUST SATISFY THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS 3. We must receive your high school transcript only one (1) copy is needed. Enclosed in this packet is a letter for your High School counselor, requesting your high school to mail your official transcript, in a sealed envelope, directly to the church. Your transcript should include your scores from SAT and/or ACT. If your test scores are not on your transcript, you must provide an official copy of your test scores. Remind your high school counselor to put Scholarship Ministry on the envelope. NOTE: Do not wait until you submit your application to request your transcript from your school. We need to receive your transcript by the submission deadline date. Because this process may take some time, we recommend you request your transcript immediately. 4. Church membership is a requirement Scholarships are for Enon members only. Student/applicant must be a member of ETBC for minimum of one (1) year as of September 1, 2016 (membership is marked as the date of your baptism/right-hand of fellowship at Enon). You must provide your Enon Envelope Number on the application form. Contact the church if you do not know your membership envelope number. NOTE: Some scholarships require a longer period of membership. 5. Resume - All scholarship applicants must provide a student resume along with the application and other required documentation as stated in each scholarship s criteria. Included in this packet is a sample resume. You do not have to follow the model, but your resume should include the following, with dates of involvement: a. Church ministries b. Extra-curricular school activities c. Community /Volunteer Service d. Employment e. Awards & honors f. Internships g. College Tours h. College Prep and/or Summer Programs for High School Students 6. ESSAY One (1) Standardized Essay is required to fulfill the minimum standard requirement for all applicants to be considered for all the scholarships. The Standardized Essay* must be typed. At the top of each page of the essay, you must include your name and church envelope number. *NOTE: Many of the scholarships criteria require additional specific information in the essay. To be considered for those scholarships, your essay must include the requested topic within the body of the essay. Every applicant must submit, at the minimum, the Standardized essay. We also urge every applicant to include the specified additional information/topics within the essay; therefore increasing the number of scholarships for which your are eligible.

3 a. STANDARDIZED ESSAY The purpose of the standardized essay is to help us to know you better beyond your scholastic achievements that are shown in your transcript and test scores. The essay should not exceed 750 words. Each applicant must submit only one standardized essay to fulfill the standardized essay requirement for all the scholarships. Carefully read all the scholarships essay requirements and address them within your standardized essay. Be sure to include all the topics/items required for each scholarship you wish to be considered for within the one standardized essay. At the top of each page of the essay, you must include your name, church envelope number, the label/heading 2016 Standardized Essay, and the page number. At a minimum, your standardized essay should address each (all) of the following: Academic Accomplishments Academic Challenges Activities in school, community and at Enon. Tell how these activities have positively impacted your life Family include parental/household make-up, siblings, parental support, problems Life Changes drastic changes, both positive and challenging, in your life (i.e. economic hardship, illness/disease, change of address/school, separation and/or divorce) Future Goals include career goals, employment, college choice, college major, continuing education (graduate/professional schools) b. SPECIFIC ESSAY A separate essay, in addition to the Standardized Essay, that is written for the specified topic only. At the top of each page of the essay, you must include your name, church envelope number and the name of the scholarship for which the essay is being submitted. Only those applicants that submit the required Specific Essay will be considered for that scholarship. 7. MINISTRY PARTICIPATION is required of all scholarship applicants. Applicants must submit the enclosed Enon Ministry form with the required signatures and dates of ministry participation. Please do not submit the form without the signatures. It is the responsibility of each applicant to obtain the signatures of the adult servant leaders or the ministry s community associate pastor for each ministry you have participated in at Enon during your high school years. 8. Scholarship recipients may be asked to participate in future Scholarship Ministry s events and workshops. 9. Return completed application and required forms to: a. 4 10. If you have questions/concerns, contact the Enon Scholarship Ministry at X-3737 or us at 11. On the last page of this packet, you will find the 2016 Graduate Recognition Registration and Information Form for your convenience. You must complete and submit the form, separately from your scholarship packet, to participate in the annual Enon Graduate Recognition Worship Service. Your Enon church family looks forward to celebrating your academic accomplishments at the annual Enon Graduate Recognition Worship Service on Saturday, June 11, Documentation Labeling This is very important. All documentation from all applicants must be duplicated. This means we need to be able to identify all the pieces that belong to you. Therefore it is imperative that each piece of your documentation is identifiable. At the minimum, your name must be on each piece; preferably your name and church envelope number. If you are submitting multiple essays, be sure the pages are numbered and each page has a heading (i.e. Standardized Essay, Specific Essay Career in Fashion) Completed Application Checklist o Completed Application with your Enon Envelope Number o Completed Enon Ministry Form with adult leadership signatures o Resume see the enclosed sample o Transcript - fill in your name on the enclosed transcript request letter and give it to your high school counselor. 7 SAMPLE STANDARDIZED ESSAY H. S. APPL ICANT Membership Number: Standardized Essay The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. Nelson Mandela As I begin to reflect on my high school experience I realize that many of the accomplishments I am most proud were built on the back of failures unseen. My transcript and awards speak to my accomplishments, but in refection if I had not fallen a few times and decided to get back up, none of those accolades would be possible. I am recovering from math phobia. Even if it is not a real phobia according to Webster s dictionary, it is real to me. I never performed poorly in mathematics, but in elementary school I did well because I was able to plug in numbers. When I got to high school I was unable to just use formulas to get good grades. Teachers began to ask me the why behind the answer and I began to drown. I was taught to figure out answers, and I was good at that task. When I was asked in my pre-calculus class to explain my answers in a deeper way I became frustrated. What difference did it make why the answer was the answer? I am the oldest of four siblings and my parents have instilled in all of us the importance of education. The sympathy I looked for at home wasn t there. They told me to pray, study and communicate with my teacher. So, I did. I went to school and began to ask questions and study harder and slowly the cloud of confusion lifted. That first semester of precalculus I earned my first C in a mathematics course ever! I was very proud of this grade because the journey I traveled to earn that grade was truly my own. By the end of the course I had an A-, and that is all that appears on my transcript, but I am more proud of my process than the grade I earned by the end. I am a proud member of Enon and I am grateful for the opportunities my church has afforded me. The major lesson I learned from all the tournaments I lost, competitions in which I didn t place first and even the sermons from one Sunday to next are that of resiliency. If Jesus Christ could die so that I could live, then I should live this life to the fullest. There is no way I can quit or speak of what I can t do with the example of love He provided. In conclusion, I am proud of what my transcripts and awards say about my character. My transcript doesn t speak of my future aspirations, dreams and strong will to succeed. I will one day be an educator who will impact the community I came from. Although I know that I will not become a millionaire with this career choice, I will be able to give back a small portion of the hope and dreams that were given to me.

The recipient is a high-achieving student who is outstanding in the classroom, in the community, and at Enon. Selection will be based upon an unweighted GPA, extra-curricular activities, and service to Enon. The criteria for this scholarship is: Enon member for a minimum of two (2) years as of September 1, 2016 ETBC COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church Endowment Fund) This $3,000 non-renewable scholarship is based upon service to the community, as documented by the supervisor of the community agencies/activities. BAGWELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by The Mitchell & Bagwell Family) This $3, non-renewable scholarship was created in honor of the late Mr. Zachary M. Bagwell, son of the late Mr. Harold Bagwell, and Mrs. Delores Bagwell. Zachary was educated within the Philadelphia Public school system and attended Hampton University. Zachary worked part-time while attending college to assist in the funding of his education. The awarded recipient of this scholarship should be a graduating High school student from Philadelphia, who will be attending Hampton University or a HBCU as a full time student. To be considered for this scholarship, the graduating high school student must also meet the following criteria: Minimum Standardize Criteria Minimum academic GPA of 3.0 Standardized Essay which includes why you chose to attend Hampton University or a HBCU Note: This scholarship is also available to a current Undergraduate, but preference will be given to a high school Senior. THOMAS and JEAN HARRIS GIFTED HANDS SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by the Harris Sisters Tawnee, Trina, Tonya and Terri Harris) This $2500 non-renewable scholarship is in honor of Thomas and Jean Harris, the parents of Terri, Tonya, Tawnee and Trina Harris; parents committed to God, to family, to life, to outreach to others and who raised and taught their girls to grab hold tight to life, own it and live it to internal fulfillment. God had naturally gifted their hands; Thomas used his hands for multiple crafts and talents and mainly his passion for carpentry and home remodeling while Jean s seamstress and tailoring skills were passionately used to make most of their girls clothing. This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student to pursue their passion by continuing their education, either at a college or a vocational/technical trade school, in a field that will use their God-given gifts or a student committed to outreach their community and others. This new $ non-renewable scholarship is to be awarded to a at risk High School senior on the way to discovering his/her dream. This scholarship is available to a high school senior, accepted at an accredited undergraduate institution as a full time student, on their way to seeing their dream become a reality. To be considered for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria: An at risk child with financial challenges Enrolled/participant in extra-curricular activities/interests outside of church and school (NOTE: excluding football and basketball) Specific Essay words essay, in addition to the Standardized essay, explaining what you would like to do if granted the opportunity and if there were no barriers; where in the world would you travel. Include what are some of your favorite things and what do you do well. NOTE: This scholarship is also available to an elementary private school student, but preference will be given to a high school senior

CALEB MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by the Family of Joyce Roche) This $ non-renewable scholarship is available to a high school senior who, despite having to successfully overcome a number of challenges during his/her high school tenure, has demonstrated outstanding leadership abilities and has responsibly performed community service. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has overcome great personal adversity while serving others in the community and demonstrated leadership skills. Minimum academic GPA of 2.5 or more DEACONS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by the Deacon Ministry of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church) This $1,500 non-renewable scholarship is sponsored by the Deacon Ministry in memory of all deceased Enon deacons. The scholarship is based upon service to the church and a G.P.A. of Minimum academic GPA of 2.75 FIDELIA WILSON HOLMES SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by Sister Tara S. Holmes) This $1,500 non-renewable scholarship has been made available by the family of the late Sister Fidelia Holmes for a student preferably studying nursing, medical related studies, or education/teaching (health). It is based upon service to the church, service to the community and minimum academic GPA of 3.0 or more. The criteria for this scholarship is: Standardized Essay must include your contribution to the church, service to the community and/or school Enon member for a minimum of three (3) years as of September 1, 2016 Minimum academic GPA of 3.0 or more

KNIGHT SCHOLARSHIP (Funded by the Estate of Brother Knight) This $1,500 non-renewable scholarship is made available by an endowment bequeathed by the late Brother Robert E. Knight. This scholarship is designated to the average student who has demonstrated a commitment to the pursuit of higher education, as evidenced by active participation and regular attendance at school and church. The criteria for this scholarship: ETBC member for a minimum of three (3) years as of September 1, 2016 List of high school extra-curricular activities, including dates of involvement, must be included on your resume List of community service activities must be included on your resume WILLIE L. GAMBRELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by Sister Donna M. Gambrell, Brother William A. Gambrell and a family friend) This $1,200 non-renewable scholarship is sponsored in memory of Willie L. Gambrell by his loving wife, Sister Donna M. Gambrell, his son, Brother William A. Gambrell and a family friend Ms. Darlene Tansmore, It is available to a female high school senior with service to the church and service to the community. ANDREWS SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by The Andrews Family) This $1,100 non-renewable scholarship has been made available in memory of Vincent P. Andrews, who lost his life in an accident at SEPTA, where he worked as a first-class electrical high-wire technician. The recipient must be a high school MALE, with a GPA of 3.0 or more and participated in service to the church, service to the community, and part-time employment. Sister Carr served Enon with the distinction of being the first female servant leader of the Trustee Ministry. It is available to a student majoring in Early Childhood Education. Minimum academic GPA of 2.5 or more NOTE: This scholarship is also available to a current undergraduate, but preference will be given to a high school senior

13 2016 SCHOLARSHIPS for HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS ENON MALE CHORUS SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by The Male Chorus of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church) New in This new $1000 non-renewable scholarship is sponsored by the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church Male Chorus and to be awarded to a male high school senior who will be a full-time student at an accredited college or university with a major or minor in music. Minimum academic GPA of 3.0 or more Male Music major or minor ENON SENIOR CHOIR MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by Senior Choir of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church) This $1000 non-renewable scholarship, established to recognize ETBC Senior Choir s prominent history with the church, is available to a full-time student who is majoring in Music Education. To be considered for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria: Standardized Essay must include how you have ministered to others through music Minimum academic GPA of 3.0 or more Majoring in Music Education Submit letter of participation in music arts from school, community service and/or church BRIDGET F. ISLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by Brother Alfred Isley) This $1000 non-renewable scholarship is in memory of Bridget F. Isley, who loved young people and had a zeal to improve their lives through education. This scholarship is available to an African-American student graduating from an inner city high school and has earned a grade point average of 3.0 or better. The recipient of this scholarship has been accepted at and will continue their education as a full-time student at an accredited institute. Minimum academic GPA of 3.0 or more GWENDOLYN C. LEWIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by Sister Stacie A. Brown and Sister Tracie B. Lee) This $1000 non-renewable scholarship is in memory of Gwendolyn C. Lewis who was the loving mother of nine children that she raised to love the Lord. Gwendolyn was a single parent who taught her children the importance of giving. She had a heart for children and those less fortunate. This scholarship is available to a graduating high school African-American female student, from a single parent or guardian household, who will major in Education or the Health Care field as a full-time student at an accredited institution. 14 2016 SCHOLARSHIPS for HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS HUBERT and MINNIE LITTLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by the Royal Family) This $1,000 non-renewable scholarship is provided by the family of the late Deacon Hubert Little and his wife, Deaconess Minnie Little. Deacon and Deaconess Little loved vibrant colors and unique artwork, and Deaconess Little had a keen eye for fashion and interior decorating. The recipient of this scholarship will be a graduating senior who will major in art. Priority will be given to those students who are majoring in fashion design or interior decorating. The criteria for this scholarship is: Standardized Essay includes why you should receive this scholarship ETBC member for a minimum of two (2) years as of September 1, 2016 Submit proof of part-time employment or proof of current community service Submit a recommendation letter from employer or community service supervisor PHILADELPHIA HIGH SCHOOL for GIRLS ALUMNAE SCHOLARSHIP (Sponsored by Enon s Alumnae of Philadelphia High School for Girls) This $1,000 non-renewable scholarship was established by Enon members from the Girls High Class of 1980 in commemoration of the 30 th anniversary of their high school graduation.
