3 Vice Commodore Lucy Hamilton RBOC Report Jack R. Michael President 2013 Hello SYC Members! There are a lot of activities going on in March. The first, is our Fun Train to Reno. This is always a great, entertaining event. On March 17th, we have our first General Membership Meeting for The Flag Officers and Directors encourage you to attend as there will be By-law changes that need to be voted on. If you can t make the dinner, feel free to come to the meeting that starts at 8 p.m. The next evening we have our River Rat Night. This is your chance to come and roast our newest Staff Commodore, Paul Clausen. I am sure you have a little something to say about Paul. All this, and don t forget our Wacky Wednesdays. We have new members, Joe and Vivian Bevacqua who were sponsored by Larry Brown and Lin Van Matre. Unfortunately, they have both had colds at different times, and they have not been able to attend any of our events. We also have members coming off probation and they will be receiving their white badges. They are Randy and Nancy McCaughan along with Barry and Karin Thall. On behalf of the Membership Committee, we welcome you aboard. Please remember to give new applications to either myself or Barbara Wesley. The sun, the sun. I think most of us have forgotten what it looks like. Rain, rain go away, come again another day when we really need it. Join us at the General Membership Meeting for the swearing of our new Rear Commodore, Terry McGregor. If you follow RBOC on our website, you may have already read this; but I wanted to be sure you all see the following, and hopefully become a Friend of RBOC! RBOC has been safeguarding your boating interests since 1968 as the nonprofit advocacy organization that works to protect and enhance the interests of the state s recreational boaters before state and local governments. The volunteer board works with our professional lobbyist in Sacramento to monitor threats to boating in California and to advocate for boaters interests. The many successes of RBOC over the years could not have been possible without the support of the participating organizations of PICYA and SCYA. Now, we have the opportunity for you to become a personal supporter of RBOC s future success. Will you please consider becoming a Friend of RBOC? JOINING THE FRIENDS OF RBOC IS THE BEST AND EASIEST WAY TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!! Your contribution, at any level, helps RBOC continue the grassroots effort and advocacy activities needed in California to ensure boaters can continue to enjoy boating! 4 Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association Worldwide Boating Safety Group Scholarship Program PURPOSE: PICYA awards scholarships to graduating high school students or college students wishing to continue their education in approved institutions of higher learning. ELIGIBILITY: To be considered, applicants must be: Students whose parents, grandparents, guardians or mentors are members of a yacht club belonging to PICYA Applicants must be graduating high school seniors of the current year or college students continuing to pursue their educational goals Scholarships are not renewable. However, previous recipients are eligible to reapply, provided they still meet all other qualifications SCHOLARSHIPS: The availability of scholarships to award each year is dependent upon donations. Traditionally the Worldwide Boaters Safety Group, sponsored by the Norman-Spencer Insurance Agency has generously provided from one to three scholarships each year Members of the PICYA clubs can donate memorial scholarships Member clubs of the PICYA make donation to the Foundation specifying the intent is to help fund scholarships FUNDING: The funding for the scholarships is administered by the PICYA Scholarship Foundation, funded from contributions donated to the Scholarship fund. Members may make tax deductible donations. A full memorial scholarship requires $2,700 to fund.
