2 LEU Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences is the major teacher training institution in Lithuania preparing a wide range of qualified professionals for the education sector in Lithuania. The history of the University goes back to In 1992, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania granted the status of a university and approved the Statute of Vilnius Pedagogical University.

3 LEU On 19 May 2011 Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania approved the new Statute of the University. This designated the University as a public institution with the title of Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences.

4 LEU The University consists of 9 faculties and 2 institutes. 71 study programmes in all three cycles (Bachelor, Master and Doctor) are offered by the University: 37 first cycle study programmes 30 second cycle programmes 3 third cycle programmes

5 LEU There are currently over 9000 students at the University. In 2011, 2169 students graduated from the University: 1906 bachelors, 246 masters, 17 doctors.

6 LEU The University staff comprises 564 members of the academic staff: 88 Professors (Doctors and Habilitated Doctors), 229 Associate Professors (Doctors), 247 Lecturers and Assistant Lecturers.

7 LEU The University is involved in international cooperation and offers exchange opportunities based on academic relations and agreements. The University actively participates in the EU Life Long Learning subprograms such as Erasmus, Comenius, Grundtvig, Leonardo da Vinci, and Nord Plus.

8 LEU The University organizes Intensive Course of the Lithuanian Language (EILC) and offers it to around 20 foreign students who study the Lithuanian language, history and culture of Lithuania every year. The University offers 221 courses for Erasmus students in English/Polish/French/Russian.

9 LEU Studies of Lithuanian philology are appreciated not only by the books that were read, to inspire choosy modern students, new means and ideas have to be utilized. The Lithuanian philology faculty offers promising study programs with specialization.

10 Lithuanian Language and Culture Centre activities Lithuanian Language and Lithuanian Culture courses for Lithuanian citizens and foreigners (beginners, intermediate, advanced); Promoting integration to Lithuanian cultural life and educational system of young people and children of Lithuanian citizens, who came back to Lithuania from foreign countries.

11 Lithuanian Language and Culture Centre Promoting reasearch of Lithuanistics. Fostering the modernisation of Lithuanian Language teaching in Lithuanian and foreign countries. Developing contacts with foreign centres of Lithuanistics, ensuring stable contacts of lecturers and students from foreign centres of Lithuanistics with lecturers and students in Lithuanian centers of Lithuanistics.
