3 ASME Facts ASME is a not-for-profit professional membership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. Members: More than 120,000 worldwide Founded: 1880 Mission Vision ASME s mission is to serve diverse global communities by advancing, disseminating and applying engineering knowledge for improving the quality of life; and communicating the excitement of engineering. ASME aims to be the essential resource for mechanical engineers and other technical professionals throughout the world for solutions that benefit humankind. 3

Create industry exposure and networking opportunities for students Complement the curriculum for professional skills development Inspire and be a learning platform for the next generation of engineering leaders Cultivate professional and social responsibility 650+ ASME Student Sections globally comprising 32K+ ASME student members ASME Community pages to connect ASME student sections worldwide ASME Student Section Roster ASME Chair/Advisor request roster access Read Use of Member Data and Conflict of Interest Forms Submit form to Mairi Brown: BrownMA@asme.org Code officers and advisor to ensure communications to leadership received 4

5 ASME Student Resources Student Leader Training Modules and Conference Focus on leadership and organizational management skills. Students receive training from subject experts on skills needed for success as a leader in ASME and beyond. 6 ASME Student Program Updates New Student Program Offering Engineering Festivals (E-Fests) around the world will bring together numerous student activities and provide for a richer student experience Sunset Activities Student Professional Development Conferences ASME Diversity Action Grants ASME Student Section Awards and Grants -Note: These items are being sunset to support the larger E-Fest model and to bring greater value to students and student sections, which have traditionally had a higher participation rate in SPDC s over these other activities. 6

7 ASME E-Fests Background A regional event that centralizes our existing program portfolio and adds amplified value to the student attendees Programmatic components at each regional E-Fest: Student Competitions Career development workshops TED-style presentations Roundtables & networking Mentoring 7

8 ASME E-Fest Activities Provide an opportunity for engineering & technology students to engage with, and learn from engineers and managers from a diverse set of industries. E-Fests also serve as the venue for the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge, Student Design Competition (SDC), Old Guard sponsored competitions, and IAM3D competition. ASME Human Powered Vehicle Challenge An opportunity for students to demonstrate the application of sound engineering design principles in the development of sustainable and practical transportation alternatives 8

10 ASME E-Fest Activities ASME IAM3D Challenge An opportunity for ME & multidisciplinary undergraduate students to re-engineer existing products or create new designs that minimize energy consumption and/or improve energy efficiency Round 1: At E-Fests around the world Round 2: At AM3D/IDETC finals showcase of the functional prototypes in 15 minute presentation in front of a panel of judges taking place in August

11 ASME E-Fests Around the World Three Locations in FY 17* Finals Advancement IAM3D winners at the regional events are invited to compete in the finals at IDETC SDC winners are invited to compete in the finals at IMECE Old Guard Oral Competition winners are invited to compete in the finals at IMECE Planning underway for 5 E-Fests in FY 18 (with additional full-scale events in Latin America and Middle East / Africa) Working to explore feasibility of additional smaller-scale event(s) in 2017 & 2018, across different regions 11

13 Additional ASME Student Programs ASME Innovative Design Simulation Challenge An opportunity for ME and multi-disciplinary undergraduate students from around the world to showcase their grasp of cutting edge modeling and simulation technologies Digital submission of design concept tested in a simulated environment ASME Arthur L. Williston Contest ASME s Williston Medal is presented annually to the student engineer or recent graduate who authors the best paper in the area of civic service 2017 Topic Autonomous System: Friend or Foe? Maximum 12 page submission by March 1, 2017 ASME Leadership and Recognition Charles T. 14 Engineering for Change (E4C) E4C features an open, innovative, user-friendly online platform to design, apply and share innovative and sustainable technical solutions to a broad range of development challenges in local communities around the world 14

Early Career Forums, Technical Conferences and Seminars Regional events organized through Group Pathways & Support (GPS) to develop technical credentials and assist with career management ECE Web-content for Early Career Engineers Videos series, online articles and user-generated content on emerging technical and career development topics Early Career Leadership Intern Program to Serve Engineering (ECLIPSE) Opportunity for early career engineers to gain valuable leadership experience by pairing up with high level ASME volunteers 15
