Brooke plans to enter the Pre- Veterinary Medicine Program at Washington State Expressions of Gratitude Earlier this year Phillip Haggith, class of 2015, sent us an letting us know how the Bill and Don Easterbrook Scholarship has changed his life. Dear supporters, I cannot thank you enough for the scholarship you provided me with for this year and next. It is amazingly generous and has allowed me to spend my first year at the University of Washington debt free. I have learned so much already and have been having the time of my life. My first quarter I had some trouble getting into all the classes I wanted,

5 Expressions of Gratitude but with some determination and persistence I got everything I needed! I ended up taking Calculus 1, Computer Aided Design, and Appreciation of architecture. I enjoyed all of them! Calculus was easily the hardest class I ve ever taken. I had to spend many long hours and late nights at study centers and free drop-in tutor sessions in order to maintain grades that I could be satisfied with. Computer Aided Design was one of the most enjoyable classes I ve ever taken. I spent my summer in England learning a lot about design engineering through an internship at a medical supplies company, so I had a bit of a head start in the course. The course went intensely deep into the program and by the end I was able to design an entire watch with all the mechanics and through an animation was able to show the gears and hands working together. My architecture class was also quite interesting. We started at the beginning of known civilization and worked our way forward studying how architecture has changed over time to better suit people s needs. Next quarter I will be having a harder load. I m enrolled in Calculus 2, Chemistry 2, and Accounting. I m very excited to see all that I learn. Thanks again for your incredibly generous support of my education! It means the world to me! Sincerely, Phillip Haggith As a graduating senior in 2015, Isabel Loos was the recipient of a Thomas and Martina Horn Scholarship as well as a Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation scholarship. She recently sent us a photo and an update. Thanks to the scholarships I received from the Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation, I was able to attend my first year of college without having to worry too much about money. When going off to school, there are so many other things to worry about and so many big changes happening that it is already pretty overwhelming, without the added stress of adding up big debt. I am very thankful for the help I received so that I could go into college without that weight and focus my mind on my studies and making the most out of this year. Thank you MBSF! Isabel Loos The Mt. Baker Scholarship Foundation also provides tuition assistance for students in college enrichment programs. Jordyn Weaver, who will graduate with the class of 2017, is one of the deserving recipients enrolled in the College in the High School Program. This program allows students to earn college credits for courses offered on the high school campus. She sent this note: Dear MBSF, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for assisting me with my tuition for the upcoming school year as a College in the High School student. Life as a College in the High School student, as you know, is not a simple one. In order to avoid student loans for as long as possible, I have chosen to live with my parents, which puts me at a disadvantage for acquiring scholarships. Although I absolutely love learning, and I do very well in all of my classes, very rarely am I awarded scholarships or grants. This is why I am so appreciative for what you have made possible for me. Thanks to you, I can avoid any stress and worry from student loans and can focus all of my attention on my studies and progress towards a Transfer Degree to attend Western Washington University in the future and work towards a business major. Again, thank you so much for your help! Sincerely, Jordyn Weaver
