For the sake of clarity please know that in the context of my final District Governor Newsletter article both Hello Goodbye! conjure up fond thoughts and feelings in the mind and body of this District Governor. I ll bet you re thinking Hello - Goodbye what s that mean? Actually, I was at a District event and on my way to a meeting when I noticed a guy looking at me who appeared to want to chat. I didn t have time to stop... so I looked him in the eye as I passed by smiled and adlibbed Hello Goodbye! He smiled back and nodded I instantly knew that down the road I d be repeating that two-word phrase many more times. To my Monthly DG Newsletter Articles. Here it is June 2014 and I m penning my final DG article for the June issue of District 6910 Rotations and that cutesy phrase seems so appropriate. It took this self-acclaimed genius only 10 months to realize that I didn t need to author an article complete with photos and announcements every month. All I needed to do was to add my 42 worth of thoughts and pass them on to District Office Executive Administrator Susan Boyd who does such a great job with Rotations. She places my meanderings at the opening of the monthly District Newsletter and viola a Governors Newsletter is born Duh! Thank you Susan. To my new 2014 Avalon Limited and to my 15-year-old 1999 Cadillac Deville D'elegance By now you ve probably heard about our patience testing incident driving home from District Conference let s just sum it up by saying Lois and I left Jekyll Island at 11:45am on Sunday. About a hundred miles up the road my 15-year-old Cadillac suffered a heart attack that required three (3) resuscitations. The patient did on the operating table. Consequently we arrived home in a rented car around 9:00pm Tuesday night and I was about to make a new car purchase. To assembling a volunteer leadership team that would serve for Rotary year and in some cases for 2-3 years.. Actually my woes with that cushy riding automobile began the last day of October 2013 while on my way to my 60th of 71 Official Club Visits. Rotations Issue #12 Page 1

2 What an amazingly wonderful journey as I visited with close to 3,000 Rotarians and Guests who allowed me to talk to them for twice the usual allotted time for a program. I used all of my career support skills to make my DG visit fun, informative, and interesting. I so enjoyed my return to scripting, production, speaking, and performing that I ve decided to come out of retirement to take a few speaking and performing engagements starting in November. Hey after all we are a networking organization. right? To 71 Rotary Club Board Meetings where more than 900 volunteer Club leaders invited this DG to join them for about an hour as they discussed their budgets, fundraisers, Foundation, Membership, and Service achievements. I was privileged to be in the know about how more than 2,000 Rotarian volunteers gave of their Time, Talent & Treasure to plan and execute their community and international projects truly demonstrating the Object of Rotary and our laudable goal of Service Above Self. To my faithful Coffee Mug. Yes, I ve been schlepping the same Starbucks Coffee mug around for about 7 years even with a noticeable dent after slamming Lois s Rav4 cargo door on it. I really do get attached to stuff that serves me well. This mug kept my coffee hot for as many as 5 hours! I so appreciated having it along with me on those Club Visits and Rotary events as I traveled almost 10,000 miles? Why Goodbye? Well, I left that Coffee Mug somewhere on that trip back home from District Conference. When I think about that Mug I m reminded of the delicious Breakfasts, Lunches and a Dinner or two that I consumed at Club meetings and District events. Most of which were prepared with care and love to honor the visit by the District Governor. To over 4 years of attending District 6910 Board meetings, training meetings and special events while serving as DGND, DGN, DGE and DG. And I wasn t alone more than a thousand Rotarians also attended so they could be better informed to speak about and represent Rotary in their communities. To Technology. I m including these facts because I m probably one of a handful of guys who knows this piece of D6910 Rotary Technology History DG Nathan Carmack realizes it was time to prepare the District to communicate electronically beyond . Invites Anton Zellman to explore ClubRunner and provides District $$ to fund a District Website site using ClubRunner DG Gary Moore asks Anton to head up technology in District and provides budget to get all Clubs online with ClubRunner , , DG s Shane Burr, DG Gene Windham and DG Bill St. Clair continue funding a variety of Internet tools in District DG Margie Forbes introduces the use of DaCdb as the District Database. Approves a budget to accomplish the mission while continuing to fund ClubRunner DG Anton Zellman makes the transition for the District Web site from ClubRunner to DaCdb To humanitarian Projects that provide care for those in our State, Country, District and around the World who are in need. To hundreds of hours of Bookkeeping and Administrative paperwork along with communicating by phone, online as I read and responded to thousands of s PETS, DTTS, RLI, TRF Seminar & LEADS (RI calls it District Assembly). So much planning, organizing and execution by so many talented Volunteer District Leaders (please take another look at the Credit Scroll on the District 6910 Website). Rotations Issue #12 Page 2

3 District Conference. Our Celebration of the many Treasures of Rotary, an Amazing District Conference Committee, Mark Kriebel - our funny poetic informative RI President s REP, a vital HOF, delicious meals held in a new outstanding Convention Center on Jekyll Island. Here s a partial list of Hello s we experienced together for which I believe there will never be any Goodbye s. Hello to Technology Hello to Bylaw and Policy Manual updates Hello to the Four-Way Test Hello to Community and International Service Projects Hello to Recognition Presentations Hello to Solving Individual, District and Rotary Club issues Hello to inspiring and motivating our youth in District 6910 Hello to working and playing with District Leadership Hello to Rotary International and Zone meetings Hello to District Conferences Hello to GRSP, Youth Exchange, RYLA, Interact, Rotaract Hello to Eradicating Polio from the face of this earth Hello to Alliance for Smiles forever changing lives of children, families, and entire communities Hello to Mike Dietzel for the Guatemala Initiative and his persistence that brought about the Government of Guatemala to offer the Sprinkles packets to millions of children who would otherwise suffer from poor nutrition Hello to Nathan Carmack for the Help Haiti disaster recovery and clean water projects Hello to conducting interviews for future Governors, Assistant Governors, Service Chairs, Peace Scholars, Scholarship Recipients To my year as District Governor. I ve heard the term Lame Duck a few times. Not quite yet I still have about 26 days before I receive the boot umm I mean the new Rotary title of Immediate Past District Governor (IPDG). I ve still got plenty to Quack about. Chair of 4 th quarter Board of Directors meeting, Chair of College of PDGs meeting, Chair of Interview for District Governor and then there s all the reporting of Expenses to District and Rotary International. There s dealing with Rotarian and Club issues and assisting our great team of Assistant Governors. Would I do it again? 5 This Year s Recipients of The Robert S. Stubbs II Guardian of Ethics Award and The W. Lee Arrendale Vocational Excellence Award The Rotary District 6910 Robert S. Stubbs II Guardian of Ethics Award recognizes an individual who has been a Rotarian for a minimum of three years and who has made outstanding contributions that foster the development of ethics; has made significant contributions in his or her vocation and who has by his or her actions; writing, policies and public pronouncements strengthened and fostered development of ethical practices. The Guardian of Ethics Award was named for Robert (Bob) S. Stubbs II, Rotary Club of Canton, and established to promote ideals of ethics. This club- and district-level vocational award identifies Rotarian who exemplify the attributes and passion for ethics in his or her vocation, business and personal life that Bob Stubbs so exemplified. David Cooper, the Rotary Club of Rockdale County The Robert S. Stubbs II Guardian of Ethics Award Recipient The W. Lee Arrendale Vocational Excellence Award was implemented during Rotary year by Rotary International District 6910 and the Rotary Club of Habersham County as part of the District s ongoing efforts in its Vocational Service program. Mr. Arrendale was a remarkable person who had a tremendous impact on the poultry industry. His work and influence continue to grow, even after his passing. Mr. Arrendale was an effective leader and worker in the poultry associations and thereby increased his influence and service to the poultry industry. Both the Arrendale and Stubbs Awards originated as club awards -- the Arrendale Award at the Rotary Club of Habersham and the Stubbs Award at the Mike McDougald, the Rotary of Club of Rome The W. Lee Arrendale Award for Vocational Service Award Recipient Rotary Club of Canton. Rotary District 6910 subsequently adopted both awards at the district level. Each year, every Rotary club that nominates an Arrendale and/or Stubbs Award recipient has their nominee considered for receipt of these district-level awards. Recipients David Cooper and Mike McDougald were recognized at this year s Rotary District Conference held at Jekyll Island last month. Rotations Issue #12 Page 5

The Rotary Club of Cherokee County heard from Karen Doyle and Brandon Roberts about the "Redneck Games" fundraiser sponsored by Sutallee for its "youth in need" summer camp programs. At the same meeting, Linda Saunders, founder of Papa's Pantry, described the ways Papa's Pantry helps families in need by providing food products and through stability training like budgeting, computer training, and resume development. Papa's Pantry has provided holistic family improvement for over sixteen years and now serves both Woodstock and Canton with its facilities and programs. 7 THE ROTARY CLUB OF DALTON The Rotary Club of Dalton holds 42 nd Ronnie McClurg Rotary Invitational Track Meet The 42nd Ronnie McClurg Rotary Invitational Track Meet was held on March 15, 2014, utilizing over 80 Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Dalton and Dalton High School Interact Club volunteers, plus 20 school and community volunteers. The meet had 42 teams from 21 high schools competing. This event touched over 600 high school participants with hundreds of friends and family in the stands to watch these fine athletes. 9 INTERACT Athens Academy Interact Club Excels! On May 19th, District Governor Anton Zellman made a special visit to the Athens Academy Interact Club to present them with a $ honorarium from District 6910 for its multiple contributions to the success of the District Conference at Jekyll Island. The Interact Club presented its Interact-Club-of-the-Year Award-Winning video as part of the Youth Services plenary session. Interact Club President Nilu Vyas also told her personal story about polio during the Youth Services plenary session, which moved several Rotarians in attendance; and the Interact club put together the District Polio Plus House of Friendship Display.
