2 Introduction Dear Key Club Scholarship Applicant, The following packet contains all of the information you need to apply for a Key Club sponsored Scholarship! There are fifteen to twenty scholarships, ranging in value from $500 to $2000 that will be awarded to the members of the New Jersey District of Key Club who have exemplified incomparable dedication to serving the children of our world, and have been upholders of the objects of Key Club International during their high school years. This packet includes: The Basics: This sheet explains the range of scholarships you can apply for and serves to guide you through the application process. The New Jersey District Scholarship Application: This is the only general application form students need in order to apply for the New Jersey Key Club Scholarships. Advisor Verification Form: This must be completed and signed by the applicant s Key Club Advisor to verify his/her involvement in community service. The All-Inclusive Scholarships Checklist : This provides easy to follow instructions to guide you through the application process. Good luck! 3 The Basics What You Need to Know for the 2017 Scholarships By going through the application process just once, you will be eligible to win one of the following scholarships: The New Jersey Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship $2000 New Jersey District Scholarships (2) $1000 (each) The Dr. George McCrossan Memorial Scholarship $1500 The Dr. Andrew Batsis Scholarship $1000 The John Johnson Memorial Scholarship $1000 o This is only given to NJ District Board Members. $500 from the Jackson Kiwanis $500 matching sum from the New Jersey District of Key Club Robert J. Mascenik Memorial Scholarship $1000 $500 from the New Jersey District Foundation Fund The Dominico Gatti Memorial Scholarship $1000 The Ted Hordichuk Memorial Scholarship $1000 o This is only given to NJ District Board Members. $500 from the Jackson Kiwanis $500 matching sum from the New Jersey District of Key Club The Fred Briggs Memorial Scholarship $1500 $750 from the Kiwanis Club of Livingston $750 from the New Jersey District of Key Club The Dr. Gene Napolello Leadership Scholarship $500 $250 from the Napolello Foundation $250 from the New Jersey District of Key Club The Harold Gantert Memorial Scholarship $1000 $500 from the Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany The Phyllis Marzolf Memorial Scholarship $1000 $500 from an anonymous donor The Judith Poling Scholarship $1000 $500 from the Kiwanis Club of Keyport The Past Key Club Governors Scholarship $1000 $500 from the Past Key Club Governors The Kiwanis International Foundation Leadership Scholarship $1000 The New Jersey District Service Based Scholarship $1000 o This scholarship is based completely on the applicant s service record. 6 The All-Inclusive Scholarship Checklist At the New Jersey District Convention, many scholarships will be awarded to the graduating class of Key Club Members. This year, it s all about the Class of 2016! To apply for scholarships offered by the New Jersey District of Key Club, follow these simple step-by-step directions. Use this as a checklist to ensure that you have completed all components of the application BEFORE MAILING IT. Fill out the Application Information Sheet found in the packet. On a separate sheet of paper, give a brief description of projects you participated in while you were in Key Club, As well as the role you played in each of the projects. Include the grade level you were in during each of the projects and the approximate number of hours you spent on it. Have the list signed by your faculty advisor and club president. If you performed service outside of Key Club, provide a summary of what you have done and the contact information of the coordinator of the service project, including name and telephone number. In your summary, also make sure to include your grade level during each project and the number of hours you spent on the projects. On a separate sheet of paper, give a brief description of your most important academic or extra-curricular achievement that is unrelated to Key Club. Write a two-page max essay about your most memorable Key Club Service Project. Be sure to explain the inspiration, the effort as well as the impact that the service project had and personal growth involved. The essay should be 12 point, Times New Roman, and single spaced. The essay should answer the following questions: o What was your most memorable Key Club service project and why? o How did you become involved with the project? o What role did you play in the project and how much time did you spend on it? o What was the most difficult part of the project and why? o How did the project benefit the parties involved? o Did you meet your expectations? o What did you learn from this project? o How did this project affect you? o What would you tell other young people about your experience? Obtain two letters of recommendation : one from an adult who has played a significant role in your life and one from a person familiar with your community service efforts ( neither can be from a family member ). Include a completed Advisor Verification Form filled out by your club advisor.
