6 Quality in primary care - engagement feedback Engagement programme across Kingston & Richmond to better understand the perception of quality in primary care Ran from September 2017 January 2018 Included local people and staff working in GP practices and community pharmacies Insight was gathered to develop a set of service pledges and patient responsibilities, then widened to inform a refresh of the primary care strategy Local people were invited to give their views on the most important aspects of quality Information gathered via comments cards, online survey and guided conversations with individuals and groups 1,154 responses to the patient & public survey and 159 to the primary care staff survey

7 Feedback - themes Many of the emerging themes that were felt to be important aspects of quality consistent across local people and staff These include: Skills and patient management of the GP Appointment booking process Having quick access to appointments Practice environment Services to support patients in prevention and self-care Shared view of the patient s role and responsibility in helping practices to deliver a quality service Patients with specific needs (carers, additional needs and long-term conditions) gave greater emphasis on flexible appointments, seeing their GP of choice Knowledge, prompt & efficient prescription service and advice on alternatives to replace or complement medication were all important aspects of quality for community pharmacy

8 What happens now? Feedback from engagement presented to Primary Care Commissioning Committee (PCCC) in April They agreed: Use the findings to inform the development of service pledges and patient responsibilities for GP practices, working with practices and local people by September 2018 Ensure the key themes are considered and addressed as part of Kingston s primary care strategy Work with the Local Pharmaceutical Committee (LPC) to take forward the findings relating to community pharmacy Feedback from engagement presented to Primary Care Commissioning Committee in April Feedback to participants how the findings have been considered and how they will affect primary care commissioning decisions

Nigel Spalding will present his research into what information Kingston GP practices give on their websites about making an appointment including: - Facility for online bookings - Telephone consultations - reference to same day appointments - Reference to extended access hubs - Home visiting arrangements - Ask the Doctor online facility
