General Summary of Function/Purpose of Position In a training and developing capacity, this position is responsible for providing professional analytical support in the surveillance and evaluation related to state-wide heart disease, stroke, nutrition, physical activity, and obesity; assist in the coordination and design of activities related to these programs and gain skills to implementing activities related to federal CDC grants. This position will serve as a resource and provide technical assistance to department staff and other agencies on program-related data and beginning level statistical analysis. This position will learn and gain expertise on section data policies and priorities.

Duty 1 General Summary: Percentage: 35 In a training capacity, will provide professional analytical assistance with the design and development of integrated assessment, surveillance and evaluation for the following programs: heart disease and stroke prevention, physical activity, nutrition and obesity and preparation of reports based on findings. PENDING Duty 2 1) Define the burden of cardiovascular disease and risk factors and in comparison to nationwide statistics in order to timely to determine the areas or need for public health and related services and to facilitate fiscal planning for these services, including information of risk and protective factors. 2) Incorporate existing and emerging scientific knowledge of cardiovascular disease and risk factors into all work products, recommend changes when new scientific, statistical or evaluation data indicates that the program efficiencies could be improved. 3) Prepare statistical tables, charts, maps and graphs. 4) Use national standards for design, implementation and evaluation of program strategies. 5) Obtain necessary training to develop skills to analyze program related data and evaluate program processes and outcomes 6) Assist in the assessment and reporting systems of statewide heart disease and stroke prevention, nutrition, physical activity and obesity programs 2) Incorporate existing and emerging scientific knowledge of cardiovascular disease and risk factors into all work products; recommend changes to program when new scientific, statistical or evaluation data indicates that program efficiencies could be improved. 3) Prepare statistical tables, charts, maps and graphs. 4) Use national standards for design, implementation and evaluation of program strategies. 5) Assists in the training of staff and other public health professionals. 6) Coordinate assessment and feedback/repot system of statewide nutrition and physical activity programs. General Summary: Percentage: 30 In a training capacity, conduct assessments, statistical analysis, surveillance, and evaluation for federal CDC grants. Duty 3 1) Assist in the development and maintenance of data management and tracking system. 2) Perform beginning level statistical analysis of data collected. 3) Produce program-related reports, fact sheets and presentations. 4) Assist in the development of the HDSP and obesity evaluation plans. 5) Assist with inputting data into electronic evaluation system. 6) Coordinate additional modules through the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) Questionnaire 7) Assist with writing federal grant proposals. 8) Consult with federal agencies, universities and other partnering agencies. 9) Obtain and maintain knowledge of current state and federal rules, regulations and laws concerning the responsibility of data users, and interpret and apply these rules for data utilized by the CVHNPA Section. General Summary: Percentage: 20 In a training capacity, provide analytical assistance in the planning of the program evaluation process for Cardiovascular Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity Section. 1) Assist in developing and maintaining program evaluation systems to monitor statewide section projects with measurable performance indicators that also meet national nationwide practice standards 2) Serve as a resource for surveillance and evaluation on all Section programs and outcomes, including prevalence, incidence, morbidity, and mortality. 3) Conduct analysis of trends in morbidity, mortality, prevalence and incidence using multiple data sources, including Vital Statistics, Michigan Inpatient Database, Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, Medicaid and Medicare Data, and Michigan Peer Review Organization Data. 4) Identify and track populations at risk for CVD. 5) Work with other Department areas, including Diabetes, Epidemiology, Vital Statistics and Medicaid. Duty 4 General Summary: Percentage: 10 In a training and developing capacity, responsible for development of special project reports and assist project teams to develop policy recommendations related to cardiovascular disease prevention.

3 Duty 5 1) Produce special reports, including analyses of primary and secondary cardiovascular disease prevention and economic data for us in costbenefit and cost-utility analysis. 2) Conduct analyses of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among Michigan s disparate populations to understand and reduce the burden of CVD, including related risk factors, among these populations. 3) Collect, assemble and compile social, economic and scientific data. 4) Determine sampling and study methods for program-related projects as relevant and appropriate. 5) Interpret and evaluate the results of topic-related research projects, and assist program staff in the preparation of reports and scientific articles. General Summary: Percentage: 5 Special projects as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. 16. This position is responsible for the design and development of assessment, surveillance and evaluation related to statewide heart disease and stroke prevention, nutrition, physical activity and obesity programs. This position serves as an analyst and evaluation assistant to department staff and other agencies for all Section-related data and statistical analysis, and for acquisition and analysis of external data relevant to Section programs. 24. The Section is responsible for statewide cardiovascular disease, nutrition, physical activity and obesity programs. This position is responsible for the data collection, assessment, analysis, surveillance and evaluation needs of these programs. 26. What are the minimum education and experience qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of this position. EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in health-related field. (Master's degree in a health-related field preferred) EXPERIENCE: One-year of professional experience required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of basic statistical software programs such as Excel, ACCESS, SPSS, GIS and SAS. Knowledge of the assigned program specialty. Knowledge of methods of planning, developing, evaluating and administering programs. Knowledge of need, preparation and use of reports. Knowledge of methods of statistical applications and needs. Ability to present conclusions in written and graphic form. Ability to formulate policies and procedures relevant to program areas based on information of conceptual nature from varied and complex sources. Ability to plan, coordinate and expedite work projects. Ability to communicate with others effectively.
