Job description Purpose of role The role s purpose is to develop and deliver activities and products to support Hospice UK members capacity-building in the areas of fundraising, income generation and communications. These activities and products will fit within strategic programmes of support for members, designed to achieve the objectives of the Hospice UK Business Plan Key tasks and responsibilities To engage with Hospice UK members involved in fundraising, income generation and communications (e.g. through hospice visits, speaking at regional groups/events) and ensure that Hospice UK s work is informed by the views and needs of these staff, and that our activities and products are relevant and valuable to them. To be the first point of contact and work closely with relevant Hospice UK professional networks/groups to strengthen their engagement and opportunities to provide peer-support, promote the membership benefits offered by Hospice UK, and ensure that their views and needs inform Hospice UK's ongoing work; specifically Hospice UK's: Professional network of irectors of Fundraising and Income Generation Retail Steering Group Professional network of hospice communications staff To write/edit content and oversee distribution of the Income Generation Bulletin, a fortnightly e- bulletin for hospice fundraising and income generation staff. To respond to queries and information requests from Hospice UK members relating to fundraising, income generation and communications. To represent Hospice UK to external stakeholders (e.g. National Association of Hospice Fundraisers, Hospice Lotteries Association, Charity Retail Association). This includes attending meetings, speaking/presenting at regional groups, workshops and conferences. To manage the planning, co-ordination and evaluation of Hospice Care Week (Oct 2015), including engaging Hospice UK members and developing/disseminating resources (enewsletters; posters; template letters, etc.) to support their active participation (including through social media engagement). This will involve working closely with colleagues across the organisation and with our membership to communicate key messages and a range of suggested activities for hospices and their supporters, as well as messages for external audiences such as the media and public. To project manage the planning and delivery of Hospice UK s annual conference for hospice retail staff (April 2016) and associated Hospice UK retail awards. This will involve working closely with the Retail Steering Group and the Courses and Conferences Manager.
3 To be the Hospice UK lead in our partnership with the Institute of Fundraising to plan and deliver the next joint annual conference for hospice fundraisers (Jan 2016), specifically contributing to the programme and marketing the event to Hospice UK members. To manage a project to develop direct marketing good practice guidelines for hospices, working with an existing working group to take this work forward to completion. To project manage the development, production and dissemination of other relevant guides, toolkits, briefings and reports as may be agreed with the irector of Hospice Support and evelopment. To oversee the In Memory Giving benchmarking programme offered by Hospice UK in partnership with a third party (Legacy Foresight), including liaising with Legacy Foresight and Hospice UK members to ensure the programme meets members needs and that its benefits are effectively communicated. To oversee the development and introduction of any new fundraising and income generation benchmarking programmes as may be agreed with the irector of Hospice Support and evelopment. To design, conduct, analyse and write reports of surveys of Hospice UK members as required, including for the annual evaluation and benchmarking of various fundraising activities across the Hospice sector (e.g. Light Up a Life events; Midnight Walks). To provide written reports for Hospice UK colleagues and/or members regarding the activities above, including progress reports and evaluation reports. To contribute to Hospice UK's programme of Courses, Conferences and Learning vents by initiating and overseeing learning events (e.g. workshops, masterclasses, networking days) specifically for members involved in fundraising, income generation and communications. These events will support members' capacity-building through developing skills, and enabling shared learning and peer-support. To support the identification and showcasing of good practice and innovation in hospice fundraising, income generation and communications through writing content (e.g. articles, case studies, web content) and ensuring high quality written content from others, such as Hospice UK colleagues and members. To manage relevant subscription/mailing lists and records on Hospice UK's ThankQ database. To perform any other reasonable tasks or projects as requested. To manage expenditure budgets for the activities above. This role profile is not exhaustive and is subject to review in conjunction with the post holder and according to future changes/developments in the service.
4 Person Specification = essential = desirable xperience and knowledge Importance Criteria Assessment Significant experience in more than one fundraising role in the charity/not-for-profit sector Strong knowledge and understanding of the main different kinds of charity fundraising income streams xperience of successfully using a range of different fundraising methods and techniques xperience of project management, and of managing projects to achieve desired objectives on time, budget and to required standards xperience of leading the organisation of events (e.g. workshops, conferences, fundraising events) from inception to delivery and evaluation Knowledge and understanding of key codes of practice, guidelines and regulatory requirements relevant to charity fundraising in the UK xperience of working with a membership and/or with multiple stakeholders xperience of one or more of the following: communications, PR, media relations, marketing Understanding of the challenges faced by hospice fundraisers and communications staff, and of the role of Hospice UK in supporting hospices to address those challenges effectively Understanding of the role of evaluation and benchmarking in sharing learning and good practice across organisations Understanding and experience of the ways in which social media and new technologies are being used in charitable fundraising, income generation and communications An interest in and empathy with the values of the hospice movement
