1 Advancing Healthcare Awards Northern Ireland 2018 Information sheet Advancing Healthcare Awards Northern Ireland 2018 for Allied Health Professionals, Healthcare Scientists and those who work alongside them in support roles. Better Living Matters is the theme of the 2018 awards and conference for allied health professionals and healthcare scientists working in Nor thern Ireland. This builds on the Department of Health report Health and Wellbeing 2026 Delivering together, the outworking of the Professor Raphael Bengoa s Expert Panel s recommendations. It sets out ways to tackle the issues we face in our health and social care system. The judges expect all entries to demonstrate how their work has improved quality and safety. New projects and initiatives are welcome as long as there has been time for proper evaluation, but we are also interested in more established services which have stood the test of time and adapted to meet new needs. There is no award specifically for e-health projects but these are welcome under any category; and team entries that include suppor t workers and assistant practitioners are welcomed. The closing date for submissions is 10 September All awards are open to AHPs and healthcare scientists.

2 Building capacity in communities and in prevention Award 1. The PHA award for building capacity in communities and prevention Sponsored by the Public Health Agency To reduce inequalities and to ensure the next generation is healthy and well, we need to tap into the ideas and energy in communities to encourage social inclusivity and reduce health inequalities. We are looking for projects, initiatives and services which demonstrate sustainable ways of building capacity in communities to promote health and well-being. This also supports the public health framework Making life better and its ambition to give every child the best start in life. Leadership and par tnership working Evidence of impact Value for money Supporting the Department of Health s Delivering Together policy framework and Making Life Better How does your project support the cost-effective achievement of public health priorities e.g. increasing physical activity, reducing obesity, prevention of dementia, reduced admissions due to alcoholism, living with long term conditions? (no more than 200 words) partners? (no more than 100 words). Enhancing support in primary care Award 2. The HSCB award for enhancing support in primary care Sponsored by the Health and Social Care Board Our future models of primary care are to be based on multidisciplinary teams working together to keep people well by supporting self-management and independence, and providing proactive management of high-risk patients. This award recognises outcomes that have been achieved from genuine inter-professional or interagency working where AHPs or healthcare scientists have contributed to enhancing primary care. Leadership, multi-disciplinary and par tnership working Evidence of impact and value for money Achieving person-centred care and patient involvement

(no more than 200 words) How does your project demonstrate leadership, multi-disciplinary working and engagement of relevant stakeholders and partners (no more than 100 words), Reforming our community and hospital services Award 3. The Belfast Trust Award for Science driving Innovation in Healthcare Delivery Sponsored by Belfast Health and Social Care Trust It is crucial that science and innovation is placed at the heart of health and social care to deliver service transformation. This award recognises the vital contribution of science to healthcare delivery. The judges will be looking for scientific initiatives that have changed patient pathways to deliver improved outcomes or given patients greater control of their own care. Evidence of the impact of science on healthcare delivery and outcomes Evidence of leadership and sustainability Awareness of transferability and the bigger picture. How will it be sustained and what is the potential for transferability and scalability across organisations or services? (no more than 200 words) partners? (no more than 100 words). Award 4 The Macmillan award for Innovation in service redesign to improve patient care Sponsored by Macmillan Cancer Support This award aims to attract entries from AHPs and healthcare scientists who have embraced the bigger picture in the health and well-being agenda and led the way in rethinking and redesigning services to improve care from the point of view of patients, clients and their families. New models or care must be evidence-based and be centred on the individual. This recognises the crucial role of AHP and healthcare scientist leaders in driving forward service redesign to ensure safe, sustainable and effective quality services provided by the right people in the right place at the right time.

The DoH award for transforming the workforce Sponsored by the Department of Health Northern Ireland The Health and Social Care Workforce Strategy 2026: Delivering for our People was published in May Developing new roles, recruitment and retention, reskilling and upskilling are just some of the elements needed to ensure a workforce fit to deliver an effective, compassionate service. Effective workforce engagement and planning are key enablers to health and social care transformation. This award recognises individuals, teams, organisations or educational bodies who have paved the way for workforce transformation. The HSC Leadership Centre award for Leadership and culture Sponsored by the HSC Leadership Centre A culture of high quality, continually improving, compassionate care and support must be underpinned by a new approach to collective and system leadership. A continuous learning culture and strong team working both within and across traditional health and social care boundaries is crucial to ensuring we deliver the best outcomes for our population of Nor thern Ireland. This award is for leaders at all levels who can demonstrate how they developed and used their skills to benefit our patients, clients and carers. Leadership and par tnership working Evidence of impact and sound evaluation and spread Awareness of budgets and the need for cost effectiveness How does your project demonstrate leadership skills and engagement of relevant stakeholders and partners? Ulster University award to its outstanding students Sponsored by Ulster University This award enables the University to celebrate the achievements of its best performing undergraduates in both the allied health professions and healthcare science.
