1 Secret Shopper Assessment (Adapted from Dr. Troy H Jones From the Street to the Seat) Church Name: Pastor Name: Date of Assessment: Your Age: Gender: Give your Sunday visit an honest assessment. Assess on the following areas on a scale of 1-5. (1= this area needs to be rethought 5=this area is strong) Environments 1. Exterior of building (Was the landscape well kept? Is the building up to date?) 2. Outside (When you drove up to the parking lot, was there a warm, updated and inviting environment?) 3. Lobby (How did the lobby feel when you walked in? Was it warm and inviting? ) 4. Bathrooms (Were they clean? Enough of them?) 5. Signage (Bathroom, kids, auditorium, guest service) 1
2 6. Music (Was there music in the lobby?) 7. Colors of walls (Were they warm and inviting?) 8. Community (Was there a sense of community and relationships in the air?) 9. Branding of Church (Was there a consistent branding for the whole church?) 10. Dress Code (Did how people dress create a warm and welcoming environment?) Host Teams 1. Parking Lot (Did the parking lot attendants create a warm and welcoming environment?) 2. Greeters (Did the greeters create a warm and welcoming environment?) 3. Ushers (Did the ushers create a warm and welcoming environment?) 4. Guest Services (Did guest services create a warm and welcoming environment?) 5. Age of Host Teams (Were there adults between ages of 25-35?) 6. Men involved (Were there men involved in host teams?) 7. Well defined (Did you know who to ask questions to?) 2

Kids Ministry 1. Signage (Was it obvious where to take the kids?) 2. Theme (Did the kids love the theme/lesson?) 3. Space (Was there enough space for kids? Nursery?) 4. Nursery (Was the space a safe, fun, and irresistible environment for preschoolers?) 5. Elementary (Was the space a safe, fun and irresistible environment for elementary kids?) 6. Excitement (Did the kids beg to go back?) 7. Sign In (Was it obvious and convenient where to sign in kids?) 8. Adult leaders (Were there friendly adults who loved kids?) 3

Chair Set-up (Was the chair set-up done in such a way that creates community and energy?) 2. Stage Presence (Did the stage create a warm and welcoming environment?) 3. Announcements (Were there too many?) 4. Insider language (Did you feel like an outsider because of the language used?) 5. The Cheese Factor (Was everything real or did it seem fake?) 6. Media/Lights/Technology (Were the media and lights updated?) 7. Less is more (Was the service simple or full of clutter?) 8. Humor (Were there moments where people laughed?) 9. Offering (Did you feel comfortable during this time?) 4
5 10. Transitions (Were the transitions seamless and did they complement the gathering?) Music 1. Authentic (Was the leader authentic in his/her stage presence?) 2. Energy (Did you feel connected to what was going on?) 3. Less is more (Did the leader talk too much? Too many songs?) 4. Style (Was the music style complimentary to the church?) 5. Dress of participants (Did the dress of the participants help you feel welcome and comfortable?) 6. Language of the leader (Did the leader use language that you didn t understand?) 7. Length of time (Was the length of the music time appropriate?) 8. Volume (Did the volume compliment of compete with the gathering?) 9. Other guests (Did you feel other guests would relate to the music?) 10. Help (Did the music leader help people to understand what was happening and what to do?) 5
