Standards After successfully completing this program, the student will be able to perform the following: 01.0 Demonstrate knowledge of the healthcare delivery system and health occupations Recognize and practice safety, security and emergency procedures Demonstrate knowledge of blood borne diseases, including HIV/AIDS Perform patient and personal care as it pertains to the practical nurse Provide patient-centered care for the geriatric population Assist with restorative (rehabilitative) activities Demonstrate organizational functions, following the patient plan of care Demonstrate computer literacy as related to nursing functions Use appropriate verbal and written communications in the performance of nursing functions Demonstrate legal and ethical responsibilities specific to the nursing profession Apply the principles of infection control, utilizing nursing principles Perform aseptic techniques Describe the structure and function of the human body Apply principles of nutrition as it relates to Practical Nursing Scope of Practice Describe human growth and development across the lifespan Demonstrate the performance of nursing procedures Demonstrate how to administer medication Demonstrate how to provide bio-psycho-social support Demonstrate healthy lifestyle responsibility specific to personal health maintenance Implement education and resources for family wellness Participate in Community Health Awareness Forums Demonstrate how to care for the surgical patient with a Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Lymphatic, Musculoskeletal, Endocrine or Integumentary disease/disorder Demonstrate how to care for pre-operative and post-operative patients, utilizing nursing principles Demonstrate how to care for the surgical patient with a Gastrointestinal, Neurological, Urinary, Reproductive or Oncologic disease/disorder Demonstrate how to care for maternal/newborn patients, utilizing nursing principles Demonstrate knowledge of SIDS/ SUIDS as it relates to the practical nursing role Demonstrate how to care for pediatric patients, utilizing nursing principles Develop transitional skills Demonstrate employability skills specific to practical nursing.

3 Textbooks and/or Equipment/Supplies: Required: See Book List: Books provided by the TCCAE Additional Resources: see Separate list/ stethoscope, uniforms, background check, and other basic medical equipment must be purchased by the student. Grading Criteria and Requirements: Grades will be based on quizzes, tests, and skill assessments 20 % Quizzes/Quests/Homework 50 % Exams 10 % Skill Assessment/Labs/clinicals/attendance/participation 10 % Final Exams 10 % ATI Assessments 100% Grading Scale: 93% to 100% = A 85% - 92% = B 76% - 84% = C 0% - 75% = Failing Grade Requirement: 76% and above are required for continuation in the Practical Nursing Program. A grade below 76% will require a probationary status and successful remediation plan. Make-up Policy: All testing and assessments will be scheduled per course syllabus. Make-up work in not allowed unless instructor gives prior approval. The instructor may assign additional outside work to be completed for each absence. Clinical make-ups will be scheduled only with an excused absence as outlined in the student handbook. Attendance: See Student handbook for attendance policies. Attendance is not only expected but vital to a student s success. All class days are scheduled between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm unless otherwise stated All clinical days are from 6:45 to 3:15 unless otherwise stated.

Notes: There may be an alteration to this schedule when the Board of Nursing Hearing Agendas are published and the trip is scheduled. Following graduation, you are required to participate in the ATI Review program. State Board NCLEX-PN exams will be scheduled at your convenience within six months of your graduation date. Any delay will result in a Florida State Board of Nursing mandated review program at your cost. Please participate in the ATI program until a green light notification is ed to you and to your director of nursing. This green light is your assurance that you are board-exam prepared. Failure to follow these instructions can result in added expense and time in obtaining your Florida Nursing Licensure. It is in your best interest to begin your review program immediately following graduation. Failure to do so may delay your exam date, and adding costs and time to your board exam and licensure. You may work as a graduate nurse once you have graduated and your name has been submitted to the board, but it is your responsibility to follow the Florida Nurse Practice Act guidelines, including direct supervision and limitations in your scope of practice. Please consult with director of your program or the board of nursing if you have any questions regarding these guidelines. Failure to follow guidelines may result in a denial of your nursing license.
