1 Readvertised Nurse GP Project HepatitisWA Application details HepatitisWA is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, responsible, committed and appropriately qualified person to fill a new position created for the Nurse GP Project. There will be a selection panel of 2 to 3 members. INFORMATION TO APPLICATIONS A selection panel may determine an applicant s suitability for an advertised vacancy from their application and referee reports only. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified verbally or in writing of the outcome of the selection process once it is finalised. BEFORE PREPARING YOUR APPLICATION Please ensure that you read the application package carefully as the package informs you of the roles and tasks of the position. The selection criteria lists the qualifications, abilities and experience that the selection panel will be seeking in the successful applicant. PRESENTATION Applications must be typed. It is very important that your name, address and telephone number and other contact details are clearly visible on your application.

2 Your application it is suggested that your application consist of four parts: 1. A covering letter 2. Resume or Curriculum Vitae should contain all your personal particulars and employment history. 3. Supporting Statement (addressing the Selection Criteria) this is the most important part of your application. You should use each selection criteria as a heading and under each heading explain how your experience, skills and qualifications/training enable you to meet this criterion. As a guide, half a page is usually adequate. 4. Referees applicants must supply the names and contact details of two referees. It is preferable that a current supervisor/manager is named as one of your referees. You will be informed if referees are to be contacted. 3 POSITION TITLE: Nurse GP Project (2 year contract) Up to 67.5 HOURS PER FORTNIGHT The next decade will be a crucial period in the public health response to hepatitis C. The rapid development and availability of direct-acting antiviral therapy for hepatitis C has brought the potential of considerable momentum to therapeutic reform. However, there continues to be a decline in Australia of the number of people accessing hepatitis C treatments. According to the most recent statistics from the Department of Human Services, the monthly uptake of the therapies first listed on the PBS in March 2016, has more than halved since the peak last year. Even more concerning is that in Western Australia we appear to be lagging even further behind the rest of the country with regards to people accessing the hepatitis C treatments. The decision by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee to enable GPs to prescribe the hepatitis C treatments was a world first. It was considered vital to ensure uptake was sufficient to maximize the opportunity for Australia to eliminate hepatitis C. Whilst the number of GPs prescribing the therapies is increasing it remains too low to achieve elimination. HepatitisWA recognises that GPs may be reluctant to prescribe the treatments for a variety of reasons, including that they may not feel confident about their knowledge or ability to treat hepatitis C. PRIMARY OBJECTIVE This position will develop a program that works with GPs, nurses and Practice Managers to encourage the prescribing and treating of people living with hepatitis C. It is anticipated that this will result in increasing the number of people in WA being cured, and provide a sustainable workforce capable of prescribing hepatitis C treatments, ultimately enhancing progress to the elimination goal. The position will also provide clinical support to our Deen Clinic when time permits. PRIORITY GROUPS OF THIS POSITION GPs who have received notification of patients who have a positive result of hepatitis C. Practice Nurses and Nurse Management. People living with or at risk of hepatitis C. ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT HepatitisWA is a not-for-profit community based organisation guided by the principles of the 4th National Hepatitis C and the 2 nd National Hepatitis B Strategies whose vision is : The elimination of hepatitis B and C in Australia. Our Mission: To provide leadership in community services in relation to hepatitis B and C. Our Objectives: (a) Reduce the personal and social impact; (b) Raise community awareness;

4 (c) Provide community education; (d) Participate in prevention initiatives; (e) Improve access to treatments; (f) Advocate for comprehensive quality, accessible services; and (g) Influence relevant public policy, practices and legislation. HepatitisWA also has a volunteer program which supports a number of the programs within the organisation. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY The position is accountable to the Community Services Manager. The position acts with a degree of autonomy, guided by written policies and procedures of HepatitisWA and other relevant legislation. RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY TASKS All positions within HepatitisWA work towards the achievement of the mission and objectives of the organisation through a range of strategies targeted to different priority groups. To facilitate this, the nurse has a range of responsibilities and key tasks in the areas of:

5 SPECIFICE AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Training and Education Follow up with GPs who have received a notification from the Health Department regarding a patients positive hepatitis C result, to support and encourage them to treat. If the opportunity is available to contact GPs and GP practices to inform them on treating their hepatitis C patients and provide information on Medicare billing. Provide GPs who do not wish to treat their patients for hepatitis C with pathways to hepatitis C treatment. Provide a minimum of four training sessions per annum to Practice Nurses/Managers on hepatitis C treatments and auditing practice software to identify patients living with hepatitis C. Clinical Activities (when providing support to the Deen Clinic) Perform clinical duties including but not limited to blood collection, vaccination and review of results (in consultation with doctors). Maintain skills and competence in the provision of patient assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of deliver of care within the clinic setting. Contributes nursing excellence to ensure a high standard of health care delivery and clinical governance. Be accountable for the safe, efficient and effective use of clinical resources, including the storage of vaccinations. Ensure clear and smooth referrals in relation to all medical and peer education matters, both internal and external to the Deen Clinic. Record details of interactions and follow-up plans with clientele of the Deen Clinic. Coordinate and liaise with clinical staff. Provide information and support services to people living with or affected by viral hepatitis. Policy and Guidelines Contributes to standards and policies using an evidence based approach, developing innovative methods for effective practice. Promotes and supports HepatitisWA policy and guidelines. Administration, records and data collection Maintain appropriate written and electronic records and data. Collect and distribute data relating to organisational and contractual performance indicators. When providing support to the Deen Clinic order and maintain stock of appropriate vaccinations and resources as required. Other Attend agency meetings and in-services. Continued up skilling through internal and external professional development opportunities. Assist in the production of bi-annual performance indicators. Contribute to strategic development of HepatitisWA projects and programs. Participate in National and State Based education initiatives. Provide expert advice (internal and external) on relevant projects and programs. Other duties as directed by Management.

6 HOURS OF WORK This position is based up to 0.9 FTE with hours worked between Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm. Work outside of these hours is occasionally required and paid as Time in Lieu (TOIL). All overtime must be authorised by the Community Services Manager. REMUNERATION This position is paid under the Nurses Award 2010 Registered Nurse level 3. Generous salary packaging is offered along with superannuation of 9.50%. Selection Criteria Essential 1. Current and unrestricted registration with the Nurses and Midwifery Board of Australia and AHPRA as a Registered Nurse. 2. Evidence of continuing professional development. 3. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work autonomously or as part of a multidisciplinary team. 4. Demonstrated ability to liaise and work with a range of clinical practitioners. 5. Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing and evaluating education and training programs. 6. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. 7. Demonstrated ability in record keeping. 8. Current C class drivers licence and access to a reliable vehicle. Desirable 1. Completion of (or working towards or willingness to enrol in) the WA Health Immunisation Training. 2. Previous experience in the use of Best Practice and other software including MS Word and Excel. 3. Knowledge of hepatitis C and treatments 4. Experience of working with people from marginalised communities. 5. Experience working in a community based organisation. Appointment Prerequisites Appointment is subject to: Evidence of current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nurses and Midwifery Board of Australia and AHPRA. Current C Class driver s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
