1 Physiotherapy Portfolio Leader June 2015 Position Title: Primary Purpose: Physiotherapy Portfolio Leader, Tauranga Hospital To provide operational leadership for weekend/public/statutory holiday physiotherapy service by working in partnership with Allied Health, Medical, Surgical, Child Health, Maori Health & Community Services. The jobholder will contribute equitably to the seven day per week roster in order to provide an appropriate physiotherapy service for those patients attending the Emergency Department (ED), Admissions Planning Unit (APU) and who meet the approved physiotherapy prioritisation criteria. Responsible for: The provision of a seven day hospital wide Physiotherapy service with a focus on provision to the Emergency Department, Admissions Planning Unit (APU) and wider hospital according to patient prioritisation. 2 Key Deliverables: Job holder is accountable for 1. Clinical Leadership Provide Leadership within the Physiotherapy Service Support and develop the shared and operational strategy for the Physiotherapy profession across the Bay of Plenty Build and maintain a culture of excellence in professional conduct, personal responsibility and accountability Provide continuing education opportunities for colleagues, pertaining to your portfolio. 2. Clinical delivery Manage and coordinate the physiotherapy services in Emergency Department (ED) and Admissions Planning Unit (APU) including weekends/public/statutory Holidays Coordinate and manage the prioritised patients across the wider hospital on weekends and public/statutory holidays Deliver and supervise high quality physiotherapy assessment and interventions Ensure appropriate and effective liaison with the multidisciplinary team around patient care 3. Health and Safety You are expected to meet the health and safety requirements set out in BOPDHB policies and protocols and any other requirements set out in the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and amendments. 4. Clinical Research and Service development 5. Contribute to broaden organisational objectives Lead a clinical research project Engage in service development in collaboration with the Physiotherapy Team Leader Provide and participate in Professional Supervision Contribute to national, regional and local BOPDHB working groups Collaborate within the various Physiotherapy, Multi and Inter-disciplinary Teams to achieve organisational objectives. Actively support the wider BOPDHB initiatives 6. Quality Every staff member within the Bay of Plenty is responsible for ensuring a quality service is provided in their area of expertise. All staff are to be involved in quality activities and should identify areas of improvement. All staff are to be familiar with and apply the appropriate organisational and divisional policies and procedures

3 Physiotherapy Position Description Jobholder is accountable for 1: Implementation of Physiotherapy Assessment, development, application and evaluation of treatment plan including discharge from physiotherapy All relevant information impacting on the purpose of the assessment is gathered and recorded Informed Consent is gained from the patient and documented Communication is open, honest and adapted appropriately Safe, systematic and efficient assessment are conducted in accordance with accepted procedure Validated assessment tools and outcome measures are used where available Treatment Plan includes analysis of assessment, clinical reasoning and goal setting in collaboration with the patient/relevant others Treatment is implemented safely and effectively with regular re-evaluation Refer patients onto appropriate community services as required Discharge plan is completed BOPDHB, Physiotherapy service and NZ Physiotherapy Board Standards of Practice are met 2: Safe, ethical, legal practice Compliance with relevant ethical, legal, professional, & safety requirements including: Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 Aotearoa NZ Physiotherapy Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct (2011) Health & Disability Code of Rights & Privacy Act 3: Cultural Safety Care is patient focused and planned with regard to ethnic, cultural, religious and other individual needs. Is aware of and upholds BOPDHB commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and improvement of Maori Health 4: Communication and Teamwork Use of a range of communication skills to establish and maintain effective therapeutic and working relationships Participate positively as a member of the physiotherapy and the wider multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating individual responsibility and accountability Professional standards of conduct maintained (NZ Physiotherapy Board Standards of Practice) 5: Management of Self & People 6: Management of Environment & Resources Management of self, time and resources to ensure performance is professional and supportive of the service and team goals. Promote team functioning by making a positive contribution to the team and by supporting team members Participate in and use feedback from supervision to support and improve own performance Promote an environment, which maximises patient safety, independence and quality of life whilst ensuring effective use of resources.

4 Jobholder is accountable for You are expected to meet the health and safety requirements set out in BOPDHB policies and protocols and any other requirements set out in the Health and Safety in Employment Act Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of service standards, policies, procedures and precautions Demonstrate effective use of hospital resources 7: Professional development Seeking and use opportunities to continually develop professional knowledge and practice Plan own CPD relating to enhancement of scope of practice Attend and actively participate in physiotherapy in-service programme Undertake reflective practice on a regular basis Ensure regular supervision as per BOPDHB protocol Maintain Professional Development Portfolio to meet NZ Physiotherapy Board requirements Participate in Performance Development process Undertake teaching and learning activities with colleagues and students Person Specification: Essential Current Annual Practising Certificate Tertiary qualification in Physiotherapy Minimum of 5 years physiotherapy experience in a complex environment Demonstrates success in working to a high level of skill across a range of acute inpatient services, both independently and as part of a Multidisciplinary team. Can demonstrate effective communication skills, and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally. Clean drivers licence for manual and automatic cars Desirable Health Sector experience Clear MRSA, TB Hep B results Good general health Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act You are required to maintain your current competency based practicing certificate 2. You must notify Manager of any changes to scope or conditions on practice (determined by NZ Physiotherapy Board) 3. You must complete the requirements of any competency programme 4. You must notify employer of concerns relating to the risk of harm to the public of another health practitioner practicing below the required standard of competence. 5. Know the provisions of the HPCAA as the governing legislation
