1 Share Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support, Inc. Sharing and Caring: A Perinatal Loss Seminar Providing education and resources to support the bereavement community. All content is evidence based promoting the best standards and practice Provides individuals the perspective needed to work with families who have experienced the tragic death of a baby through early pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or in the first few months of life. Explores pertinent topics such as the Rights of Parents, Understanding the Grief Process, How to Run a Support Group Effectively, and How to Gain the Support of Hospital Staff and the Community. This workshop is designed to equip those who wish to start their own Share Chapter or bereavement program.

2 Completing 2.75 hours of online content is required to be awarded the full contact hours. This online content includes watching videos for 2 sessions, passing a post-test for each video with a score of 80% and filling out an evaluation for each video and must be completed prior to attendance at training. You must also participate in small group activities related to these videos throughout the live portions of the workshop. In addition, to receive your certificate showing the number of Contact Hours you have earned at this workshop, you must also turn in: A signed Personal Verification of Attendance form with each session you attended and each video you watched checked off and evaluation forms for each live session you attended as well as the full-activity evaluation. Purpose Provides individuals the perspective needed to work with families who have experienced the tragic death of a baby through early pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or in the first few months of life. Explores pertinent topics such as the rights of parents; understanding the grief process; how to run a support group effectively; and how to start a bereavement program in your hospital or community. Who Should Attend? This workshop is open to anyone who wants to expand their knowledge and skills in supporting families through the unique grief of perinatal loss. It is appropriate for chaplains, social workers, counselors, nurses, and parent advocates and other community caregivers. If you have experienced the death of a baby, your initial loss must have occurred at least 18 months prior to attending this training. Mission of Share While Share s primary purpose is to provide support to grieving parents at the time of and/or following the death of a baby, the secondary purpose is to provide information, education and resources on the needs and rights of bereaved parents and siblings. This educational program focuses on the best practices in which to provide support to a family during a perinatal loss. Through the curriculum and the shared experiences of the educator the attendees are given the confidence on how to best support a family. Having the support of a trained caregiver shows a family the path to healthy grieving and an opportunity to make meaning of their loss Continuing Education Credits This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Midwest Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. 3 Topics Included Reflections on Perinatal Loss...Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (Online session) This session introduces the topic and evolution of perinatal grief based on research and best practices over more than 40 years. *You mu Perinatal Grief and Complicating Factors In order to support a family whose baby has died, one must first understand the unique grief of perinatal loss. This session will provide insight into the grief journey of the bereaved parents, the grandparents, siblings and the extended circle of support. Obstacles to healthy grieving and ways to identify and deal with complicated grief issues are discussed. Difficult Decisions A prenatal diagnosis of an anomaly or life-threatening illness begins a journey no parent imagined living through. During this session, participants will be able to examine the complexities of the decision-making process, gain knowledge about the importance of supporting families through whatever choices they ultimately make, and identify resources for future support. Cultural and Social Diversity (Online session) Examine how culture, religion, and socially diverse situations can impact the way families react and heal following the death of a baby. Becoming a culturally competent caregiver for families will lay a foundation for a trusting relationship and promote healthy grieving. Rights of Parents: Choices or Mandates Learning the Standard of Care for Perinatal Loss is the heart of this session. The Rights of Parent's, Rights of the Baby, and Rights of Siblings are all discussed. You will discover ways to communicate comfortably with bereaved parents. You will also learn how to support parents in the choices they make in caring for and spending time with their baby. Memory Making Explore ways to help bereaved families create photographs and treasured mementoes of their baby at the time of the loss and in the ensuing months and years. Also learn ideas for weaving memory making into a support group setting. Establishing a Share Bereavement Program You will leave this session with an understanding of the tools needed to create a perinatal bereavement program within a hospital setting or independently in your community. You will gain valuable information as to getting hospital administration as well as ancillary departments support, and community support for your program. Data Collection: Making it work for your Organization Data provides a record of the services you provide and the people that you support. Steps for establishing a data collection process for your program and sample data collection tools are provided. The collection and reporting of data can be used to show your successes and to improve the delivery of care you provide. Caring for Yourself Caring for patients can be very rewarding but challenging. In this session, participants will learn about the importance of caring for their own needs so they can better serve grieving families. How to Run an Effective Aftercare Program Gain insight to establish, maintain, and market a support group. Discuss ways to troubleshoot issues in 3 facilitation of the group and with attendees of the group. In addition explore opportunities for electronic aftercare support and phone support.

5 About the Presenters* * Qualified Share curriculum instructors may vary with each program Teresa Brassfield, MSN, RN Share Bereavement Coordinator Teresa has worked as a Labor & Delivery nurse for four years. She took on the responsibility as her hospitals Share bereavement coordinator three years ago. Teresa has a passion for the mission of Share and doing all she can to best serve her families. Patti Budnik, BSN, RN, CPLC, Bereavement Care Manager Patti came to the National Office in September 2013, with twenty years of nursing experience. Her nursing career has been focused in the NICU and Labor and Delivery. Working at a chapter hospital, Patti was able to see the benefits of the Share organization, both for her patients and as a professional. Patti serves as a liaison to our participating hospitals and the Share Companions. Rose Carlson, BS, Program Director Rose Carlson first came to Share in 2002 as a volunteer and has been Share s Program Director since She has a BS in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. Rose often teaches workshops and speaks in the community about Share, and she writes and updates many of the materials Share provides for bereaved parents and professionals. Debra Cochran, MA, BSN, CPLC, Executive Director Debra Cochran BSN, MA has served in a variety of healthcare staff and leadership roles over a long career including Hospital Educator, Home Health, Hospice as well as a variety of hospital departments, and twelve years of Healthcare Policy at the federal level. She has served on various boards and community organizations. Debbie joined the Share staff in May of Amy Frankel, PhD Amy Frankel does individual, group and family therapy in hospital, residential and outpatient settings. Her expertise is in depression, anxiety, adolescent issues, divorce and women s issues. Kelly Karavousanos, MA, LPC Kelly Karavousanos is a Licensed Professional Counselor working for Baue Funeral Homes in St. Charles, MO. Kelly serves the community through educational workshops and grief support groups. She attended Lindenwood University for her Masters in Counseling and has attended Grief Counseling Training with Alan Wolfelt, PhD. at the Center for Loss and Life Transitions. She feels it is her passion to companion the bereaved through the most difficult time in their lives. Melanie Schwob, RN Share Training Educator Melanie joined the Share staff in early She has over 30 years of nursing experience in labor/delivery/ postpartum. Melanie started a Share Program at a participating hospital in September 2012 and became their chapter coordinator. She also leads a perinatal grief support group. Working with patients as a Labor/Delivery nurse as well as becoming a Share staff member, she is able to provide support, education, and mentoring to her nursing peers as well as the community at large. Jennifer Stachula, BA, Share Training Educator Jenn has been a supporter of Share through local Share events and fund-raisers since Jenn joined the Share staff in June She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology and Pastoral Care from Quincy University and has enjoyed working in various areas of social service all over the country prior to joining Share. 5
