All of our training courses are vibrant and energetic, and we strive to make learning first aid an enjoyable experience, giving our first aid training candidate the confidence and knowledge to manage any situation, with the realism stemming from actual experiences as paramedics and parents/employees. HEADS is a non-profit organisation and works in partnership with Hadrian School to support additional opportunities for our children. We are very flexible in meeting individual school s training requirements and can facilitate bespoke training on request, so if you have a training need that we could assist you with please feel free to give us a call to discuss. 2 HEADS (Hadrian Education and Development Services) First Aid Training Courses (January April 2019) As an educational establishment you have a legal obligation to ensure you have appropriate First Aid provisions in place meeting the criteria of not only Ofsted & the Department for Education, but also the Health and Safety Executive (First Aid Regulations 1981). If you re unsure of your requirements or number of First Aiders needed we would be more than happy to advise you. Blue Tiger Training is a local North East business, established and run by experienced former Ambulance Service Paramedics. We offer a wide range of high quality First Aid Training, which is regulated via Ofqual, through our nationally accredited awarding body. Ensuring your school is compliant with the recent regulation changes, without having to undertake any ongoing due diligence checks. Our continuous aim is to improve the standard of First Aid Training, using our wealth of experience and expertise, tailoring all courses to suit any work environment. We are now regarded as one of the North East s leading First Aid training providers. First Aid at Work - 3 Days (18 hours) ( per delegate including all course materials and lunch) This comprehensive Level 3 First Aid at Work (F.A.W) course is Ideal for staff intending to act as a First Aider at Work. The course is designed to provide the First Aider with the skills necessary to give effective life support, diagnose and treat injuries or illness, and maintain care and comfort of the casualty. Our instructors deliver dynamic courses that relate to real life situations. As a result your staff will be able to deal confidently and competently with a wide range of First Aid situations that could arise in your school. At the end of the course, your staff will have gained a recognised qualification lasting 3 years. Please note that it is HIGHLY recommended by the H.S.E that staff undergo annual update training, this will be detailed on their certificate. (The 3 day course content can be found on our website) 2

3 January 23 rd /30 th /February 6 th First Aid at Work Requalification 2 Days (12 hours) ( per delegate including all course materials and lunch) This Level 3 course is only available to staff who currently hold a valid First Aid at Work certificate which is due to expire. It ensures that their First Aid skills are refreshed with latest procedures and techniques. Please Note: Staff MUST bring their previous certificate with them to the course. At the end of the course, your staff will have gained a recognised qualification lasting 3 years. Please note that it is HIGHLY recommended by the H.S.E that staff undergo annual update training, this will be detailed on their certificate. January 17 th /18 th February 4 th /11 th February 26 th /27 th March 12 th /19 th Paediatric First Aid 2 Days (12 hours) Ofsted/EYFS Recommended - ( per delegate including all course materials and lunch) This comprehensive 12 hour Paediatric First Aid Course has been designed specifically for individuals who provide care for babies and children under 8 years old. The course syllabus has been designed in accordance with the UK resuscitation guidelines (2010) and meets the requirements of: 3

4 Ofsted Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework Pre-School Learning Alliance NCMA (National Child Minders Association) Sure Start NVQ in childcare and education The course is suitable for any worker that provides care for babies and children under 8 years old. Our trainers have real life experience of Paediatric First Aid emergencies, allowing us to pass on their knowledge, making the course more relevant and interesting for your staff. Usually run over two days your staff will learn a high level of practical skill and theoretical knowledge, so that they can deal promptly and competently with situations that may arise when caring for children and babies. At the end of the course, your staff will have gained a recognised qualification lasting 3 years. January 15 th /22 nd February 14 th /15 th March 4 th /11 th Emergency First Aid at Work 1 Day (6 hours) ( per delegate including all course materials and lunch) This Level 2 course is ideal for staff who attend school outings/trips or to support full First Aiders at Work. Your staff will leave this course will give you the knowledge and skills to manage and recognise life threatening situations in a variety of settings. At the end of the course, your staff will have gained a recognised qualification lasting 3 years. Please note that it is HIGHLY recommended by the H.S.E that staff undergo annual update training, this will be detailed on their certificate. 4

5 January 14 th February 13 th March 15 th The Emergency First Aid in the Workplace course can be facilitated on site to suit the needs of your school or organisation. Basic First Aid Overview (Appointed Person) Course 3 hours ( per delegate) This workshop can be run in school for Lunchtime Staff, Parents etc. over a three hour session. An attendance certificate will be provided. Please note that this is not a qualification but provides useful basic first aid information for staff to act until a first aider arrives on the scene or the emergency services are called and can be held in your school TBC (AM/PM) Automated External Defibrillator (AED) - 3 Hours ( per delegate) This 3 hour course is designed to instruct your staff in the simple use of an AED. Our instructors have real life experience in cardiac life support. Their expertise combined with our simulation equipment enables them to make this type of training relevant, ensuring that your staff will have the skills and knowledge to use an AED safely, competently and effectively. This course can be delivered on request. This training is available on request at your venue. 5

Annual Refresher Training for all First Aid Courses - 3 Hours ( 50.00 per delegate) The Health and Safety Executive HIGHLY recommends that all first aiders should receive annual refresher training.

This course provides your First Aiders with the opportunity to practice and update their practical skills. Refresh theoretical knowledge and ensures that they are kept up to date with the latest first aid guidelines. DATE TBC 6

7 Award in Food Safety (Food Hygiene Level 2) one day course 9.30am 4.30pm ( per delegate) Date TBC 9.30am 3.30pm Course Content: Introduction to Food Safety Microbiological Hazards Contamination Hazards & Controls Personal Hygiene Cleaning & Disinfection Food Premises & Equipment Food Poisoning & its Control HACCP from Purchase to Service Food Pests & Control Food Safety This course can be organised for staff on request in your school/workplace. Fire Safety Awareness Training 1.5 hour session ideal for staff twilight Available on request ( for up to 80 staff) This course can be organised for staff on request in your school. The course duration is 2 hours. Individual certificates or a whole school certificate if requested will be provided. It s recommended that all staff complete Fire Awareness Training annually. This course is ideal for staff in any workplace including school, offices, factories, residential establishments, home carers etc. The course covers generic topics that will help to safeguard adults and children in your setting and will give you the knowledge of how to manage potential risks. The course content includes: Basic Principals of Combustion Common Causes of Fire Principals of Fire Prevention Selection and use of Fire Extinguishers Action on Discovering a Fire 7

8 Evacuation Drills Checking of Emergency Fire Exits Fire Marshall Training 2 hour Course ( per delegate) Dates TBC also available on request for schools at a fixed price This course is suitable for: those who are responsible for overseeing fire safety designated fire marshals anyone who needs to know how to use a fire extinguisher. What you will learn: The course will present an understanding of fire regulations and general fire precautions. It aims to provide you with the knowledge to be become a fire marshal. Course content: Action on discovering a fire Common causes of fire Fire drills and evacuation Fire safety legislation Fire safety precautions The chemistry of fire The role of fire marshal Using fire extinguishers 8

9 Health and Welfare Courses HEADS can provide a number of Health and Welfare courses for twilights at your school which include: Infection Control COSHH Training The courses would last 1.5 hours and costs can be negotiated. Medication Awareness Training May 18 th 1.00pm 4.00pm Are your staff trained to handle medicines in school? This is an interactive course on the safe handling of medicines in schools using relevant examples and case studies. The course is fully compliant with Ofsted requirements. The course is being facilitated by Optus Pharmacy Services. Course Content: Administration Storage Recording Disposal Covert administration Self-medication Homely remedies and over the counter medication Importance of dose timings How to use eye drops, patches, inhalers, creams etc. Medicines for short stay and school trips The importance of medicine labels Understanding dosage instructions Basic hygiene when administering medicines 9

You should check that the certificates of all First Aiders have not expired and ensure that they are booked on a requalification course before their certificate expires otherwise they will need to undertake the full 3 day course again. (All delegates attending First Aid Training must be able to join in and complete theory and practical assessments (if they have a disability or difficulty, we can use special measures on assessments if we know in advance). Dietary requirements must be given in advance, please wear loose comfy clothing!). 10
