02 A Changing Business Environment A CHANGING BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT At EAPC, we understand the decisions that face today s ambulatory care facilities. Should you remodel? Do you expand an existing facility? Do you build a new facility from the ground up? Can you expand the range of services you offer? The answers to these questions will have significant, long term impacts on your organization. You will need information and expertise to guide you to an outcome that is right for your organization and those served. Our team will evaluate your current structure from the roof supports to the HVAC systems, listen to your goals and ideas, and then suggest options that will meet your needs while maintaining budgetary and scheduling requirements. It s a big decision. We can help ensure that it s the right decision for you.

Jim Tyler PE Mechanical Engineer Anthony Corcoran PE CGD LEED AP Mechanical Engineer Cory Vaughn PE LEED AP Electrical Engineer Jim Stocke Commissioning Specialist We have been designing, renovating, and constructing healthcare facilities for nearly five decades. We know that a well-designed facility will cater to several different groups of stakeholders, each with its own criteria for success. Our definition of success is a project that incorporates a functional workspace for caregivers, efficient operations for administration, and of course, a comfortable, stimulating environment for patients and their visitors. While these goals may seem divergent, they can be attained through creative, thoughtful design and innovative construction techniques. At EAPC, we have a talented, creative team in place, and we have the knowledge that only comes with experience. You define your goals. We help you reach them. We bring your ambulatory care plans to life!

GREEN DESIGN Sustainable design is multi-faceted; it includes the selection of recycled building materials, getting the most from energy efficient mechanical and lighting systems, and utilizing daylight to better enhance the indoor environment. From the overall site to the workstation in an office, we strive to maintain a low impact and make smart design decisions to better the environment. HAPPINESS More satisfied occupants due to a healthier and cleaner environment leading to increased memory and better breathing air PRODUCTIVITY Fresh air, good lighting and access to outside views, and access to daylight and operable windows gives productivity a boost SUSTAINABILITY Saving energy, water, and other resources reduces the carbon footprint RESULTS Immediate and measurable results quantify a certain return on investment One of the available tools to achieve our goals is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). LEED provides a framework to start the design process and a verifiable structure to measure the project outcomes. Our team of LEED accredited professionals is prepared to assist with any size project that embraces the principles of renewability and sustainability and to achieves those collective goals. EAPC has been involved in projects with LEED certification goals, promoting design and construction practices to reduce negative environmental impacts and improve occupant health and well-being. Our team is experienced with cost estimation, life cycle cost analysis and assessment, local construction knowledge, and building energy modeling. 07 Green, LEAN, & EBD
LEAN EAPC has been an industry leader in incorporating LEAN principles in the facility planning, design, and project delivery processes. Key to this philosophy is the incorporation of LEAN and Six Sigma concepts in EAPC s process, led by EAPC s LEAN Specialist, Chad Frost. ON-TIME STARTS Demand-match staffing Reduction in supply waste Improved turnaround time SCHEDULING Reduction in avoidable cancellations Improved scheduling accuracy Optimized room utilization OPERATIONAL COSTS Completed pre-admission tests prior to date of surgery Accurate case carts A NEW BUILDING WILL NOT FIX BROKEN PROCESSES EAPC has an integrated programming process that brings together the client stakeholders, patients point of view, architects, and a LEAN facilitator to transform the process and co-develop a final design that the not only the patients needs, but also the staff and providers needs as well. STAFF & PHYSICIAN Aligned goals and metrics Ownership of processes and outcomes Improved physician and staff satisfaction REVENUE OPPORTUNITY CLINICAL QUALITY Improved patient experience Effective transitions of care Reduction in complications EAPC advocates using a LEAN-based approach to the programming, planning, and design phases of projects. This approach allows healthcare organizations to review processes, incorporate the industries best practices and provide input and secure buy-in from all stakeholders, prior to any design work being started resulting in a LEAN path forward.
ACCESS TO NATURE NOISE BUILDING LAYOUT FLOORING MATERIALS WINDOWS ERGONOMICS HEALING ENVIRONMENT WAYFINDING AIR QUALITY EVIDENCE-BASED DESIGN FURNITURE ARRANGEMENTS LIGHTING Evidence-Based Design is a performance-based approach to building that must include a set of increasingly specific performance targets that are established over the course of planning, design, construction, and occupancy. Proactive, evidence-based healthcare facility design is an important and growing trend in healthcare. SINGLE PATIENT ROOMS At EAPC, our planners and designers embrace a holistic approach to Evidence-Based Design, combining innovative design solutions and best practices that provide safe, quality patient care and family support, and a positive and safe work environment for staff.
