Pediatrics Residency Program
Pediatrics is where you can make a huge impact. Not only do you make a difference in the life of an individual child, but also on everyone whose life revolves around that child. From the Program Director Pediatrics is truly one area of medicine where you, as a doctor, can make a huge impact on not only on the life of one individual child, but also on everyone whose life revolves around the child the parents, grandparents, siblings and friends. It is a specialty which is not for the faint-hearted. It can be tough, physically and emotionally, but the rewards are immense on so many levels. With the SingHealth Residency Pediatrics Program, we will be able to equip you with the expertise and knowledge to be a well-rounded Pediatrician. We offer access to all the major Pediatric sub-specialties, medical and surgical, in both acute hospital and ambulatory settings. Furthermore, with a dedicated Continuity Care (CC) clinic, you can follow-up cases longitudinally where you get to see patients progress from their initial acute illness during their in-patient stay, through post-discharge follow-up. You will also have the opportunity to provide anticipatory guidance and practice preventative medicine with developmental follow up of the younger ones. Dr Raveen Shahdadpuri Ishwardas Program Director Pediatrics For your training, you are matched to a mentor for the duration of your Residency to nurture and develop an Individualised Learning Plan [ILP] to maximise your learning and training needs. The Pediatrics Residency faculty has protected education time to provide you adequate supervision and guidance within the various sub-specialty rotations and Residency-specific matters. We look forward to having you on the SingHealth Residency Pediatrics Program as you embark on an exciting career in Pediatrics!
Your Pediatrics Residency The robust Pediatrics Residency Program offers a comprehensive training curriculum comprise of comprehensive mix of clinical activities, didactic lectures and research opportunities in an educationally stimulating and conducive environment. The seamless longitudinal training will see all Junior Residents progress to Senior Residency and ultimately exiting the Program as a Specialist upon SAB accreditation. As a Pediatrician, you play an important role in the development and well-being of the next generation. If you enjoy working with children and want to make a difference in the lives of children and their families, a career in Pediatrics will allow you to pursue your aspirations. Wide Exposure at KKH Singapore s Main Pediatric Teaching Hospital The main training site for the SingHealth Pediatric Residency Program is at KKH Singapore s ONLY dedicated integrated hospital for women and children, and one of the largest children s hospitals regionally. KKH is an 827-bed Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited hospital with a 365-bed dedicated children s facility. You will benefit from the wide exposure and case-mix at KKH, which is equipped with the latest and full range of facilities including Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU and Singapore s first Children s Emergency Department. It is also a major pediatric university teaching hospital accredited by JCI as an Academic Medical Center (AMC), and the only one nationally affiliated with all 3 local medical schools (Yong Loo Lin - NUS, Duke-NUS and Lee Kong Chian - NTU). Our Residents also have the opportunity to rotate through Neonatology at SGH and Child Psychiatry at IMH as well as the School Health Service for ambulatory rotations. Renowned Pediatrics Faculty and Dedicated Mentors Our outstanding faculty members are locally and regionally recognized leaders in Pediatrics. They are passionate about educating and cultivating the future generation of pediatricians, and are committed to guiding you through your training journey as well as your individual professional career path. Conducive and Stimulating Training Environment With competency-based, structured assessments and regular feedback by mentors on your progression, you will be in a unique position to train and learn effectively. Program features such as sub-specialty clinics and rounds, educational conferences and core didactic teaching are also in place to enhance your training as a Pediatrician. Continuity Clinics to Enhance Pediatric Training By participating in continuity clinics, you can hone your knowledge and skills on anticipatory guidance, longitudinal care and child development through the child s essential growing years. Research Opportunities Residents have ample exposure during training to take part in quality improvement, patient safety and academic research projects, research rounds and research meetings to enhance your academic scholarly activities and research skills. Continuous Professional Development We actively collaborate with CRAFD (Center for Resident And Faculty Development) and the Academic Medicine Education Institute (AM.EI), to hone trainees expertise in specific core competency areas through interactive workshops and sessions which are held throughout the year.
Your Career Prospects & Development SingHealth is the largest public healthcare delivery system in Singapore. With KK Women s & Children s Hospital - as the national leader in child care and with the upcoming Sengkang General Hospital, you will have excellent future career prospects upon completion of your training. The proposed development of local healthcare and planned community Pediatric services will also be an area of strategic focus and future child specialist needs. SingHealth Pediatrics Residents will have a wide choice of job and career opportunities in all the various Pediatrics departments. A Wealth of Research Opportunities Do you have a mind and eye for research? Budding Clinician Scientists are welcome to join a rigorous and well-structured research track with ample research opportunities. Please approach the Program Director or Program Executive for more information and updates.
Hear from our Residents The structure of teaching, the devotion of the mentors, the collegiality of my peers and the smiles of the kids has made my training in the SingHealth Pediatric Residency meaningful. My pediatric residency has inspired me to use my research background to ask and investigate clinical questions that have the potential to impact the future of children s health. Dr Jason Lam Shang Leen Pediatrics Resident Duke-NUS Alumnus A huge part of Paediatrics is to manage parents expectations and that can be challenging at times. The program has certainly equipped me to be a better communicator to overcome such challenges, not forgetting having dedicated faculty members who never hesitate to give advice during times of difficulties. My experience in Singhealth has been very fulfilling so far, not just in terms of learning but also the friendships that I have forged with my residency mates. Dr Loh Sin Wee Pediatrics Resident National University of Ireland (NUI Galway) Alumnus
