2 Overview, Target Audience and Learner Outcome This conference is held in conjunction with the Nursing Research and Evidenced-Based Practice Poster Fair at the live location and focuses on assessment and management of common pediatric conditions in hospital, ambulatory and community settings. Current clinical issues and implications for children s health and practitioner care delivery are presented and discussed. Interprofessional participation is encouraged for RNs, advanced practice providers, child life specialists, medical assistants, social workers, therapists, students, EMS providers and others interested in improving the care of infants, children and youth. Participants will enhance their knowledge of an integrated approach to pediatric care and self-report evidence-based practice improvements to their leadership and clinical teams. Choose to attend the live conference at Children s Hospital Colorado or at one of the video conference sites in Colorado (Colorado Springs and Steamboat Springs), Montana (Billings), New Mexico (Albuquerque and Farmington) or Wyoming (Cheyenne). Conference Handouts Links to available handouts will be ed to each registered participant after the conference. Continuing Education Credit Registration, attendance, sign-in and submission of the evaluation, including a written response to questions related to any change in practice that you may make as a result of learning that took place at this activity, are required for successful completion and receipt of the certificate of attendance. Claim only those hours you attend. Nursing is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Western Multi-State Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. This educational activity for nursing contact hours is provided by (9/ hours; 9/28-7 hours). Other A general certificate of attendance will be provided. Objectives Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to: Explain factors that are driving current healthcare delivery reform initiatives. Explore current and potential risks to children from high risk infectious pathogens. Identify staff and patient needs with regards to deescalation, utilizing innovative methods to create and implement de-escalation changes within your organization. Describe the role of a pediatric social worker in the hospital setting. Nursing Grand Rounds: Discuss the personal impact of drug diversion while reinforcing ways to prevent, detect and better handle drug diversion events. State strategies you will use to improve education and tools that empower patients and families. Discuss various nursing innovations that are improving clinical processes and outcomes. Review the AAP clinical care guidelines for the management of bronchiolitis and the process of implementation to enhance patient outcome at. Discuss the Board of Nursing statute, policies and programs available to professional and practical nurses in Colorado, and issues and options related to diversion for both licensees and employers. Describe current and future directions of pediatric imaging, with emphasis on new and innovative techniques. Describe the types of anorectal malformations, diagnostic work up and state-of-the-art management of patients with congenital colorectal problems. Explore the rationale, referral process and metabolic response to bariatric surgery, and life adjustments and outcomes post-surgery for adolescents. Explain the epidemiology of diabetes in children, new staging of Type 1 Diabetes and the new artificial pancreas. Accurately diagnose concussion in children and adolescents and provide suitable initial care. Discuss interesting pediatric emergency medicine cases to review workup, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric emergencies.
