11 11 Preparing to Return Home You can expect to go home as early as the day of surgery, depending on your procedure Ask a family member or friend to help you for the first few days to one week Have 2 coaches on standby to provide you transportation home Discharge times vary

25 25 After Surgery Transport to Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) after surgery After stable you will go to Unit 4-7 You may have oxygen, urinary catheter and drain Frequent vital signs and assessments throughout your stay Clear liquids, then regular food as tolerated Room Service menu is in Welcome Folder You may have activity precautions which the nurse will explain in detail based on surgeon preference

27 27 Pain Control Don t Expect to be Pain Free We strive to get your pain to a tolerable level So that you can participate in your daily activities We use a variety of options for pain management
28 28 Pain Control Options Pain Medication Oral Intravenous Individualized All patients are risk assessed Notify your nurse if you have spasms, your pain is uncontrolled, or you cannot sleep Soft food may be recommended for comfort
29 29 After Surgery CCM may discuss your discharge needs Order your Room Service meals Physical Therapy will see you Ask for pain medicines when you need them Call Don t Fall! Use your call bell and wait for your nurse before getting out of bed Discharge may happen as early as the day of surgery
30 30 After Surgery You will be expected to walk the unit You are encouraged to dress in comfortable clothes Hygiene products will be available Hibiclens/Chlorhexidine You will continue to be monitored and assessed You will be aware of your discharge day so plan rides appropriately for the morning
31 31 Braces You may have a collar after surgery If your MD recommends an Aspen collar you will need to - be fitted pre-operatively - practice applying and removing - bring it to the hospital A soft collar or Philadelphia collar will be provided by the hospital if needed
32 32 Discharge Day PA will assess your ability to be discharged Discharge times vary but often occur before noon Coordinate anticipated discharge time with nurse Have 2 coaches on standby to provide you transportation home Your coach can pick you up at the main entrance of the hospital

34 34 Discharge to Home Increase activity based on your tolerance Keep your follow up appointment Driving only with doctor approval Discuss resuming sexual activity
