1 BS/MS Program Highly qualified undergraduate nursing students may be admitted to a master s program at CSON immediately following senior year, with provisions for double counting specific courses for both B.S. and M.S. requirements. In anticipation of this, junior and senior students can take graduate nursing courses as electives counting towards their Undergraduate degree. Following graduation from the B.S. program in May, admitted students in the full-time B.S./M.S. program then maintain continuous enrollment in CSON by taking two or three graduate courses during the summer, and the complete the master s program during the following academic year (or 2 years). The graduate courses taken during junior and senior year will be applied to the requirements for the bachelor's degree (as electives) and also are accepted for the master's degree at William F. Connell Graduate School of Nursing IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED PRIOR TO GRADUATION IN MAY. Eligibility and Procedures 1. Maintain a GPA of at least.4 and earn a grade of B or above in all nursing courses 2. Discuss plans to apply to the BS-MS program with your academic advisor.. Submit a completed BS-MS Plan of study to MaryBeth Crowley in the Graduate Office (Maloney Hall Suite 219) by the end of junior year. Submit either the full-time (one year) or part time (two year) plan. Indicate any alterations from this plan on the form. This paperwork will serve as your Intent to Apply. 4. Take the GRE (Graduate Record Exam). The CSON Continuing Education Office offers a GRE review course. 5. Complete the application for the Master s program by December 1 of your senior year. See the CSON graduate school website for application details. The application requires recommendations, transcripts, essays, declaration of expected specialty, GRE scores, an application fee, etc.. Pass the NCLEX-RN examination and hold an unrestricted RN license in Massachusetts the summer following graduation from the undergraduate program Graduate Courses that Undergraduate Nursing Students may take: NURS7415 Conceptual Basis for Advanced Nursing Practice NURS741 Ethical Reasoning and Issues in Advanced Nursing Practice NURS7420 Pharmacology and Advanced Nursing Practice (offered only in the spring; required prior to clinical for all students) NURS742 Psychopharmacology (spring only; required for students in psych-mental health) NURS7520 Research Methods for Evidence-based Nursing Practice NURS772 Advanced Pathophysiology Across the Life Span Any graduate level elective (does not need to be in the School of Nursing) Others at the discretion of faculty
2 Please note: Some courses are not offered each semester. Undergraduate students must obtain permission to register for graduate nursing courses using the Permission for Undergraduate Student to Enroll in a Graduate Nursing Course form. Students should recognize that acceptance to specific graduate programs can be very competitive and available places can be contingent on clinical spaces in the intended graduation year.
