3 I. Explanation of Assessment Procedure The Skills Exam The skills exam is a timed test, administered on a 1:1 basis. Each graduate is given a scenario consisting of 5 skills, randomized from a list of 21 skills. The graduate must pass al 5 skills in order to pass the skills portion of the certification exam. The N therefore is sometimes very low which may not give an accurate picture of the overall outcomes for a given class. Of note is that graduates have up to 2 years to take the exam. Some graduates do not take the certification exam for a variety of reasons and the may take it a year later time. We reached or exceeded benchmark in all but four areas (highlighted in green). Skills highlighted in yellow are those skills where our graduates scored lower that the state average. II. Written Exam All written exams include the same content areas. Graduates of this program consistently do well in this part of the national exam. This is also consisted with the high pass rate in the theory segment of the program. The one area that is consistently lower (highlighted in yellow) is an area in which instructors realized they were not using the term restorative care, but instead discussing it term of the concept of independence. We exceeded our benchmark, but scored lower than the state average. How Results will be used 1. Faculty consistently utilizes NNAAP results in evaluating the teaching of basic manual skills. 2. The manual skills practice exam (MSPE) was changed to schedule an evaluator who had very little or no contact with the students so in order to add an element of anxiety to the process to better simulate the actual testing environment. Faculty recently made a decision to change the simulated test (MSPE). Only those areas that are below the State average or have been consistently low will be a part of the exam. Faculty has also devised a lab test to compare/contrast the procedure for #17 and #20. These procedures are confusing to students, and faculty believes that this way of differentiating between the 2 may enhance their knowledge of each. In addition, faculty will link the MSPE to the student s final grade. 3. Faculty continues to encourage students to utilize the college lab for practice outside class time.
4 4. The program has purchased video s that speak specifically to restorative skills, and we have seen an increase in scares in that area.
