2 Course Number: NURS 632 Fort Hays State University College of Health and Life Sciences Department of Nursing Course Title: Credit Hours: Placement in the curriculum: Prerequisites: Co-requisite: Population-focused Care Three 2 nd semester of nursing major Successful completion of the 1 st semester of the nursing major N322: Nursing Inquiry Catalog Description : Course Outcomes: This population-focused course will assist the student to explore the knowledge and management of populations with an emphasis on community and public health concepts, issues, roles, policies, and trends. At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. explain population-focused care across the lifespan. 2. address public health/community health standards of care as they relate to diverse populations. 3. examine legal, ethical and professional issues related to population-focused care. 4. examine legal, ethical and professional roles related to population-focused care. 5. discuss components of the public health system. 6. analyze the epidemiological process. 7. examine the care process as it relates to populations. 8. address the care of culturally diverse populations. 9. discuss the concept of vulnerability in diverse populations. 10. examine health promotion and wellness for populations. 11. discuss population-related environmental issues and threats. Environmental Issues Learning Resources: Please refer to course information received from your instructor or go to Evaluation of Outcomes: The quality of the student s work will be evaluated. The student s work includes the assigned learning activities that are necessary for meeting the course outcomes. Grades will be assigned according to the scale range approved by the Department of Nursing. A = % C = 70 79% B = 80 89% D = 60 69% U = 59% or below A summative grade on tests of 70% or higher is required to pass the course. Students must achieve a grade of C or better in all nursing courses to progress in the UNS program. (See UNS Student Handbook, current edition) Possible Teaching Strategies: 1. 5 4. Late papers and assignments: 5% of the possible points for the assignment may be deducted for each day an assignment is late. Papers and other assignments will be considered on time if delivered to my office before I leave for the day, on the day the assignment is due. 5. Class attendance is expected. 6. No Incompletes will be given. 7. Unless otherwise noted, written assignments are to be typed following APA (5 th ed.) style guidelines. For purposes of saving paper, the reference list may be single space.
