1 Healthcare Access for Persons with Disabilities Target Audience: Physicians, registered nurses, certified health education specialists, and others who care for persons with disabilities or have an interest in caring for persons with physical, sensory, and developmental disabilities. Program Descriptions: These courses are designed to increase the capacity of health care providers to provide quality healthcare for persons with disabilities. These trainings will present various disability issues and strengthen participants competence in physical and sensory (Part I) and developmental (Part II) disabilities. Content Expert: Susan M. WB1906 Part I: Persons with Physical and Sensory Disabilities Participants will gain a better understanding of health, wellness, and care issues concerning people with physical and sensory disabilities and will: Identify the four goals of The Surgeon General s Call to Action to Improve the Health and Wellness of People with Disabilities, Recognize the four barriers to quality healthcare, as addressed in the Americans with Disabilities Act, State a minimum of five skills to increase good communication and rapport to enhance accurate assessment and delivery of quality care. WD1671 Part II: Persons with Developmental Disabilities Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be able to: Define disabilities, particularly developmental disabilities. Summarize the Americans with Disabilities Act, Developmental Disabilities & Bill of Rights Act of 2000, and the Rehabilitation Act. Identify common developmental disabilities and associated secondary conditions. List barriers to quality healthcare for people with disabilities. Develop a minimum of five skills to increase good communication and rapport to enhance accurate assessment and delivery of quality care for patients with developmental disabilities. 2 Accreditation Statements: CME: CNE: CEU: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME ) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designates these web based educational activities for a maximum of 1.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits for WB1906 and 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits for WD1671. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Non physicians will receive a certificate of participation. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited as a provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This activity provides 1.1 contact hours for WB1906 and 1.0 contact hours for WD1671. 3 How to Access Courses through the CDC Training and Continuation Online System To access either of these trainings please go to: If you have not registered for the CDC s Training and Continuing Education Online system please select New Participant and register for the site. Registration is a two step process. If you have registered before, click on Participant Login. Once you log in follow the steps below to access either of the trainings. Step 1 Click on Search Step 2 Type the course number (either WB1906 or WD1671and click View
4 Step 3 After you click View you will see the title of the course and a short course description. Click on the Course title. Step 4 After you read the course objectives, click on the Course Link. This will take you directly to the course.
5 Step 5 The following window should display. Click on the course you want to take. Part I: WB1906 Part II: WD1671 Clicking on either course link will give you a short pre test you must complete. At the end of the pre test the link to the course will display. Please click on the link to launch the course.
6 Step 6 PLEASE NOTE: After viewing the course, you will need to go back to the CDC website to get your credit! Follow the same steps above but instead of clicking on Course Link in step click on the number of credits you are requesting and click Submit. If you have never taken a CDC continuing education course before you will need to register. If you have already registered, enter your login information. Click on the number of credits you are requesting. Then click Submit You will need to take a post test evaluation in order to receive your credit. To view and print your certificate click on the Transcripts and Certificates menu on the left hand side of the screen.
