2 Health improvement training programme Our training programme is aimed at individuals who work in a range of sectors including health, social care and voluntary organisations. The courses offered are free to attend and will help support you to protect and improve health and wellbeing. They will provide you with the knowledge and skills to reduce inequalities and improve the health of the population. We offer a variety of training delivery methods face-to-face, online or a blend of both. If you need bespoke training, we are happy to discuss additional training for any of the tools and services we provide. Details of our scheduled courses can be found in this brochure and each section gives details on how to book a place. 9 Health improvement (general) Course title Aims Who should attend Cool heads To raise knowledge and awareness of mental health and wellbeing, in particular of stress, of peer educators looking to deliver stress awareness sessions and/or provide small group support in their school. This session is for upper school peer educators within schools in Ayrshire and Arran who are looking to raise awareness of resources and techniques to promote mental health and wellbeing and how to deal with stress. Learning outcomes By the end of the course you will: discuss what we mean by mental health and mental wellbeing ; know about the signs, symptoms and causes of stress; know what can be done to try to keep mentally healthy; and know about the Cool heads resource; and be confident in using the Cool heads and other resources effectively with other pupils. The precourse is mandatory, it is part of the requirements for attending the course. The course will help participants increase their confidence in improving health and tackling inequalities, by providing a framework which will guide and encourage the development of effective and reflective practice. The course sets a standard for a common set of values and principles for participants who have a role in promoting health. This course is for all occupational groups with a role or interest in improving health and tackling health inequalities. Improving health is increasingly a key part of many jobs. The course is likely to be of interest to nursing staff, public health practitioners, allied health professionals, pharmacists, voluntary sector workers, occupational health workers and so on. explain the mutual influences of social, policy, regulatory and legislative drivers on population health outcomes; appraise the implications of health improvement principles for reducing health inequalities and improving overall population health; critically examine your own practice in relation to achieving continuous improvement in delivery of interventions aimed to improve health and reduce health inequalities; and demonstrate personal use of a reflective process to generate experiential learning. This is a Train the trainers course and is aimed at people who train others in the support of people with a learning disability for example, in-service trainers, team leaders who deliver training or care staff who train others as part of their role. This Train the trainers pack covers six modules: Module 1: Learning disability awareness Module 2: Healthy eating Module 3: Physical activity Module 4: Mental health Module 5: Sexual health Module 6: Oral health Learning outcomes At the end of this module participants should: have a basic understanding of learning disabilities; understand the varying communication needs of individuals with learning disabilities; understand the specific health needs of people with learning disabilities; and be aware of their role in supporting people with learning disabilities to address their health needs. To be able to identify routes of transmission for each virus and to identify support needs and signpost to the BBV specialist team. One full day (approximately seven hours) Please note - staff are encouraged to complete BBV level 1- Introduction to blood borne viruses (BBVs), available on request or modules on learnpro before attending BBV level 2 or 3. This level is suitable for NHS and non-nhs staff who may work with people who are likely to exhibit potential risk- taking behaviour or have complex lifestyles and issues. You do not need to have a specialist role in the day-to- day management of BBVs. Who should attend Aims Condom card (c-card) C-card is a service in Ayrshire and Arran offering access to free condoms or dental dams with minimum embarrassment or fuss. Condoms and dams offer protection against some sexually transmitted infections - for example, chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV. This training is for those who wish to take on the role of c-card sign-up or collection point facilitator. To give participants the knowledge and skills to be a c-card sign up facilitator or collection point facilitator and provide a service which is open, friendly, nonjudgmental and confidential. 25 Sexual health and blood borne virus (SHBBV) Course title Aims Who should attend Opening doors The aim is to increase awareness of issues concerning people involved in prostitution in Ayrshire and Arran. This course is suitable for both NHS and non-nhs staff who are working with individuals who may be at risk of being involved in prostitution and who have an interest in sexual health and wellbeing and are looking to promote the health of their client group - for example, addictions staff, nursing staff, youth workers, social workers, voluntary organisation staff. Background The training was developed as a result of a needs assessment carried out on behalf of NHS Ayrshire & Arran by Judith Connell of the Terrence Higgins Trust. The training was recognised with a WISH (Wellbeing in Sexual Health) Award in 2011/12. It is designed to help staff communicate about sex, sexual health and sexuality with their client groups.
