The milestones are reached in increments of 5 years of service. Those honored reached their milestone in From the Healthcare Center, for five (5) years of service were Trinka Eggert receptionist, Norma Brown Ann Phillips, Administrator SRNA, Lori Payne Director of Nursing, Vicki Phillips Social Services Director, and Karen Venis Human Resources Director. The Healthcare Staff recognized for 10 years of service include Cindy Chancellor Restorative SRNA, Yaa Elder LPN, Fayetta Fee LPN, Richard Fee Restorative SRNA, Dorothy Fletcher SRNA, Lee Jones RN, Carol Makin Restorative SRNA, Anta Tolo SRNA, and Sharon Wesley, RN. Sayre Christian Village is grateful to our outstanding staff for their commitment to our Christian Community and the residents we serve. We easily and often get caught up in our conversations in their room or in the hallways. PLEASE RESPECT QUIET HOURS To help with the noise levels, residents have requested that we have quiet hours. With the residents in agreement we have set those hours from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. We have posted signs to serve as reminders to staff and visitors. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in respecting our residents. To make sure these visits are successful full circle, there are a few general rules that I would like to communicate to you to ensure any new orders or instructions for care that may need to be

2 Page 2 SAYRE CHRISTIAN VILL AGE HEALTHCARE CARES I would like to thank those family members that are able to accompany their loved ones when they have a need to go out of the facility for MD appointments. I understand that you all have busy schedules and for you to take the time is not only appreciated I m sure by your loved one, but by the staff at Sayre as well. To make sure these visits are successful full circle, there are a few general rules that I would like to communicate to you to ensure any new orders or instructions for care that may need to be started upon their return are started promptly and without questions. We will send a packet of paperwork with you for the office staff and physician to have for their use, not only for billing purposes, but stating the reason for the visit, diagnosis, history, etc. Please make sure that the office staff receives FROM THE NURSING DEPARTMENT Thank you for your willingness to help with outside appointments. this. In the packet of paperwork, there will be a consult sheet for the physician to respond with any notes, orders, follow-up appointment, etc. Please make sure that you have that before you leave and turn it in to the nurse s station upon your return to the facility. Lastly, if the physician includes any prescriptions with the return paperwork do not have it filled before you return. I understand that you may think that you are being helpful by doing this and we appreciate the thought, but we have a process that we must follow regarding orders for new medications. MedCare pharmacy is the pharmacy that Sayre uses to provide all of our residents with new medication as well as refills. They need to add the prescription to your loved ones medical profile so they can monitor for any interactions between other medications, allergies, etc. MedCare provides our facility with 24/7 service and also has a local Pharmacy that will deliver to us if something is needed outside of their delivery hours. They understand the importance of being timely when starting new medication and do a great job in ensuring this happens. Again, thank you for your willingness to help with outside appointments and for your involvement in the care of your loved ones. March 1 st National Pig Day March 6 th National Frozen Foods Day March 11 th Johnny Appleseed Day March 17 th St. Patrick s Day March 19 th National Corn Dog Day March 25 th Good Friday March 27 th Easter Sunday this year The month of March is an exciting time for us to celebrate many things. Let us not forget to honor our pigs, eat our frozen meals, corn TYLER S TIMELY TREASURES dogs and apples.don t forget to wear green on the 17 th or you might get pinched. Most of all we look forward with great excitement to Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Children will be dressed in bright colors, bowties and sun dresses. They will be on the hunt for hidden Easter eggs. My prayer is that in the midst of all of the fun and excitement this month holds, we will not forget just how special of a day Easter is for us as Christians. It is a day for us to celebrate not only that Jesus died for our sins, but also, He arose from the grave! The first verse of the classic hymn Because He Lives paints the scene in a beautiful way: God sent His son, They called Him Jesus. He came to love, heal, and forgive. He lived and died To buy my pardon. An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives. HAPPY EASTER! Chaplain Tyler

The dinner was held in the spacious therapy gym on the lower level of the healthcare center and the room was decorated to reflect a romantic bis- tro. event. The couples were served salad, lasagna and bread sticks followed up with cheesecake for dessert. During dinner, romantic music filled the room. The residents shared fond memories of past Valentine s Days, first dates, and treasured love stories with those in attendance. The residents were very appreciative of the opportunity to share this romantic time together. A photo op was arranged so each couple could pose together for a lasting keepsake of the Happy Valentine s Day Sweetheart. Tyler is filling in for a friend who could not come. That is important to know because that is the day some of the Healthcare Center residents had planned to go to Rooster s for lunch. But even though the trip was cancelled, the fun was not. Cindy, the Activities Director got the staff together and they donated the needed items to make up two big crock pots full of chili. The chili was served with various styles. Page 5 VOLUME 6, ISSUE 3 One pot had spaghetti in the chili. Corn chips, cheese, hot sauce and cold drinks were also served. It was complimented with homemade brownies and fudge. The residents who were signed up to go to Roosters were congregated in the Life Enrichment Center. It was great fun and great food. Staff and volunteers who planned to assist with the outing were also in attendance. It was great fellowship. Homemade chili on a cold, cold day can t be beat! The men are outnumbered at the Healthcare Center, so at the Sadie Hawkins dance, the ladies were roping in the guys as best they could. Then the fun really got started when fiddler Tom Cunningham took the stage and got the toetapping hoedown swinging! SADIE HAWKINS HOEDOW N Hee Haw!!!

6 Valentine s Day Party at the Healthcare Center On Friday, February 12th, the residents at the Healthcare Center enjoyed the second major party of the week. With the room filled with hearts and roses, each resident enjoyed refreshments and fun together while surrounded with music of love floating over the airways. The King and Queen for the event were chosen by random drawing and were crowned for the occasion. Each resident went home with a chocolate heart and a silk rose to commemorate the occasion. Those residents who were not in attendance were also given a rose and chocolate in their rooms to celebrate the love shared here at Sayre. Charles Reeves is once again crowned Valentine King for the Healthcare Center. Marie Metts is the Valentine Queen for 2016 at the Healthcare Center

Page 7 Dining Room Changes on the Way By Robin Elliott, Dietary Manager The Dietary Department is excited to introduce some changes that will improve the dining experience at the Healthcare Center.

We will now be offering a weekly special menu that has extra choices for every day of the week. For example, Tuesday s special might be crispy chicken sandwich with onion rings.

7 Page 7 Dining Room Changes on the Way By Robin Elliott, Dietary Manager The Dietary Department is excited to introduce some changes that will improve the dining experience at the Healthcare Center. The Dietary Manager, Social Services Director and Administrator met with ladies of the resident food committee and discussed the changes. We will now be offering a weekly special menu that has extra choices for every day of the week. For example, Tuesday s special might be crispy chicken sandwich with onion rings. These specials will be in addition to our daily menu and alternates. We will also be offering two dessert choices with every meal. We are in the process of re-decorating the dining room with the hopes of getting as many residents as possible to join us for meals. In the near future we will be introducing our new meal delivery system for the dining room called the Suzy Q cart. This will be a buffet table on wheels that we can use in the dining room. Our residents will be able to choose what they want for their meal as well as how large or small a portion they prefer. Dietary staff will take the cart around to each table for the resident s convenience. We look forward to all the new changes coming our way. Sayre Philanthropy Statement: Sayre Christian Village strives daily to provide Godly care to those in need. Its supporters are changing longterm care in the name of Jesus Christ. Sayre Healthcare Center is utilizing best practices in elder care which is helping residents function at their highest levels. Sayre s ministry is able to continue because of the support of people who recognize the importance of serving older adults. A gift to Sayre Christian Village s nonprofit ministry makes a significant and positive difference as we seek to provide Godly care (care that makes God happy) for our residents. WAR ROOM VIEWED AT THE HEALTHCARE CENTER On February 17th, the Healthcare residents gathered in the Life Enrichment Center and viewed the highly acclaimed movie, War Room. The challenge to believe in the power of prayer through our faith in God came through in the very real testimony of the characters and the parts they played. We highly recommend the movie to everyone. John 3:16 ACTIVITIES ALERT: MARCH BLOWING IN LOTS OF ACTIVITY They don t call us activities for nothing. Color March Busy! The outings in March include shopping and lunch at Wal-Mart on the 9th and lunch at the Smashing Tomato on the 23rd. Parties will include the birthday party on the 10th at 7:00 p.m. for everyone to celebrate with all who have March Birthdays. We will also look for the luck of the Irish at our St. Patty s Party on the 17th. The Irish Always Lots of Needs: The residents love to play games and games often include prizes. So it s pretty easy to go through the stockpile we have for Bingo, Left Right Center, Wheel of Fortune, peanut auction and more. Old jewelry, individually wrapped snack foods including sugar free items, scarves, shawls, lap robes, and things like that work well, We also would appreciate donations of Wii games, DVD movies and other electronic devices that can be used to connect our residents to the world of technology. If you have any such items and would care to donate, please call the activities office at , ext Of course it goes without saying we can use volunteers to visit, read to residents, take them outside in nice weather and more. Let us know if you can assist in any way. Thank you so much for all you do to help and bless our residents. Dancers will return again this year, coming in the evening rather than the afternoon, on the 22nd at 7:00 p.m. Their jigs are festive, lively and colorfully entertaining. Our Easter Weekend will start with an Easter Egg Hunt for the children on Thursday, March 24th at 6:30 p.m. There will be a concert on Saturday, March 26th, by Grace X 4 at 2:30 p.m. Sunday will conclude the weekend with worship in the LEC at 3:00 p.m. All family members are invited and encouraged to attend this wonderful weekend with the residents. We continue to have special events each day and they can be noted on the enclosed calendars. If you would like to assist with any of these events and parties, we would be very happy to have you.
