Locate and assess peripheral pulses, including temporal, carotid, brachial, radial, popliteal, posterior tibial, and dorsalis pedis 3. Assess respiratory rate for an adult patient 4. Assess temperature using an oral, tympanic and electronic thermometer 5. procedure for taking axillary temp, oral temp and rectal temp 6. Record SaO2 using a pulse oximeter Vital Signs: Blood pressure Pulse Respirations Temperature O2 saturation Health assessment: Thorax and lungs Skill 2 5 Oxygenation Skill 14-2, 14-3, 14-4 ability to obtain and record blood pressure, pulses, respirations and temperatures ability to obtain an O2 saturation

Use proper assessment technique (inspect, palpate, percuss and/or auscultate) while examining patient s lungs and thorax 6. Apply an oxygen mask 7. Apply an oxygen nasal cannula 8. Instruct patient on use of incentive spirometer Respiratory assessment Observe respiratory pattern Count respiratory rate Listen to normal breath sounds Listen to abnormal respiratory sounds Apply and oxygen mask Apply an oxygen nasal cannula Practice teaching other classmates how to use incentive spirometer Health assessment: Cardiovascular System Skill 2-6 Cardiovascular care Skill 16-2 Peripheral/vascular ability to complete respiratory assessment, apply supplemental oxygen, teach patient how to use an incentive spirometer

Using reflex hammer, check reflexes 9. procedure for log rolling a patient 10. Place a Foley catheter into a male mannequin 11. Place a Foley catheter into a female mannequin Obtain a clean catch specimen of urine Collect a urine sample from an indwelling urinary catheter Change a urostomy bag Catheterize female mannequin Catheterize a male mannequin Prepare specimen to be sent to lab for UA and culture MEDICATIONS Chapter 5 Skill 5-1 male and female catheterization, collecting urine sample for lab and change a urostomy bag

Have all supplies available at bedside 6. ability to perform blood glucose monitoring 7. ability to prepare correct amount of insulin 8. ability to mix two different types of insulin in one syringe if necessary 9. ability to use an insulin pen if ordered 10. ability to inject insulin into mannequin Check medical record for name, dose, and time of administration of insulin Determine results of blood sugar by using Accucheck blood glucose monitor Check patient s ID band Explain to patient the reason medication is to be administered Prepare insulin dose Administer medication Document Chapter 13 BOWEL ELIMINATION Skill 13-1, 13-1, 13-3, 13-6 ability to obtain blood sample for blood glucose monitoring, and prepare and inject insulin,

Change a colostomy or ileostomy bag 8. Use sterile technique to change apply or change dressing around a colostomy or ileostomy bag 9. Prepare and administer a small volume enema 10. Prepare and administer a large volume cleansing enema Auscultate bowel sounds in all 4 quadrants on mannequin Empty colostomy bag Change colostomy or ileostomy bag Apply and remove dressings around colostomy or ileostomy Administer small volume edema Prepare and administer large volume enema ACTIVITY Chapter 9 Skill 9-8, 9-9 ability to assess abdomen, administer an enema, empty and change a colostomy bag

10 WEEK TEN Out of Class Total Hours Assessment MUSCULOSKELLETAL SYSTEM. 1. Use proper assessment technique (inspect, palpate, percuss and/or auscultate) while examining patient s mobility 2. ability to assemble crutches 3. ability to ambulate patient with assistive devices 4. transporting a client from the bed to the wheel chair with one-sided paralysis using proper body mechanics and a gait belt. 5. transporting a client in a wheelchair into an elevator and out 6. Apply legal restraints 7. Observe systematic head to toe assessment in preparation for final 8. applying TED stockings Altering length of crutches for patients of different heights Practice crutch walking techniques Practice using a walker Operating a wheelchair with a patient sitting in the chair pretending to enter and exit an elevator Apply TED stockings Observe instructor complete basic head to toe on another human being including skin, hair and nails assessment in preparation for final. Provide mouth care and complete sponge bath on another human being Ask patient to complete evaluation of mouth care and bed bath given by student. ability to ambulate a patient using assistive devices and transport a patient using a wheelchair and applying TED stockings. Written evaluation by patient concerning quality of mouth care and bed bath.
