2 Summer Scholars Program Goals Supported by Jack s Neonatology Fund in memory Jack Cary Eichenbaum, who lived two days being born premature on Feb/24/02 at NYU BUT INSPIRED A FUTURE. Jack s Neonatology Scholar Program is committed to supporting the development of Medical Professionalism In Clinical Care, Education and Medical Research so that every child and family is provided excellent medical care in a nurturing and supportive NICU environment.

3 Summer Scholars Program Goals 1. To expose Scholars to the System and Culture of Pediatric Subspecialty Medicine through real life medical situations. Exposure to Pediatric intensive specialties Often overlooked in training exposure These specialties are broad based medical programs that are highly integrated into hospital and multidisciplinary team systems The scholar learns the important role of: Multidisciplinary teamwork Identifying the many important roles of individuals critical to healthcare delivery including: nurses, practitioners, specialists, administrators and others.

4 Summer Scholars Program Goals 2. To provide Scholar with Direct Experience in an ongoing clinical research project. Clinical or basic/translational science research project activities are ways that the scholar is provided insight into the day to day challenges of health care delivery and health care advancement.

5 Summer Scholars Program Goals 3. To enhance development of Medical professionalism. Through exposure to leaders and team responsibility for leadership scholars learn the quality characteristics of a Professional Academic Physician- One who is a teacher.. ready to educate and inspire to bring out the best in the student and. a guardian of art of medicine providing clinical excellence and research knowledge combined with exceptional communication skills and compassion for the sick.
