3 1 Introduction Thank you for your interest in a role within the Expert Reference Group (ERG). The National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health has been commissioned by NHS Health Education England (HEE) to produce a competence framework for selfharm and suicide prevention. This framework will be intended for a wide audience such as, public health and government bodies; providers and all staff (including nonclinical staff) in all health and social care settings; people working in educational settings; staff and providers of housing support; providers and staff of transport services, particularly rail; the police; organisations or occupations with known high suicide risk; professional membership bodies for a wide range of practitioners; those who have previously harmed or attempted suicide, including their families and carers; people bereaved by suicide; and the general public. This framework will inform the development of future self-harm and suicide prevention training that will be applicable across a number of settings and will be relevant to individuals from many disciplines. Delivery of the completed competence frameworks and the related implementation guidance is anticipated for July The project is currently in the scoping stage and dates may vary. Competence models will be produced for adult and older adult settings, children and young people s settings and all public settings. There will be a dedicated Expert Reference Group set up for each area. Each Expert Reference Groups will meet in Central London 3-4 times, for an all-day meeting, within a 4-5-month period. 2 About the project The ERG and NCCMH project team will be responsible for developing the competence framework and associated implementation guidance to identify the required staffing skills, training, values and behaviours, at the right time and in the right place to prevent people from self-harm or who are at risk of suicide in England.
