Summary of the broad purpose of the position in relation to the organisation's goals: Employees classified at this level provide clinical nursing/midwifery expertise for specified individual patients/ clients and/or groups and/or patient/ client populations, and may work in a variety of clinical settings. Work at this level is undertaken by employees with a least 3 years post registration experience. 10 JOB SPECIFICATION Summary of the broad purpose of the position in relation to the organisation's goals Within the framework of the National Mental Health Policy and the Standards for Mental Health Services and in a manner consistent with the stated Vision and Values of SA Health, the Nurse Practitioner is accountable for their own practice standards, activities delegated to others and the guidance and development of less experienced staff. In the course of fulfilling the role of Nurse Practitioner, Level 4, Nurses at this level, provide direct expert nursing care for specified individual consumers and/or groups and/or consumer populations. Level 4 clinicians may practice beyond the usual extent of nursing scope of practice and are autonomous clinical decision makers, working independently and collaboratively in the health care system. Employees in this role accept accountability for their nursing practice; professional advice given, delegations of care made and for addressing inconsistencies between practice and policy. The Aboriginal Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will work autonomously and collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team in CALHN; MHD as well as General Practitioners, General Health Services, Drug and Alcohol Services SA, Aboriginal Health Services, Services and Non-Government Organisations as relevant. The Aboriginal Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will build relationships with and refer to and receive referrals from clinics attached to Community Controlled Aboriginal Health Services, Services within the MHD and the general hospital for consumers within CALHN. The Aboriginal NP will engage with consumers, families, significant others including initiating, interpreting and responding to diagnostic tests and/or screening of sexual health, substance misuse and physical health issues. The Aboriginal Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will develop a statewide / national profile in relation to research, publication and education in their specialty area of practice. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible as a leader, advisor and mentor for other senior nurses practicing in the field of mental health. 1.
