1 Job Description Nursery Nurse Department Babraham Nursery Grade 10/9 Salary range Starting salary is 21,283 per annum to 23,648 per annum Length of appointment Permanent Location Babraham Institute Working Hours hours per week Job Profile Summary A full-time Nursery Nurse position has become available predominantly within the Squirrels Den, but the successful candidate must be willing to work in all areas of the Nursery. The Nursery Nurse will assist with the care and development of the children aged between months of age. The post holder must have CACHE/NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent. The successful candidate will be expected to work from Monday to Thursday from 8:30am-5:45pm and on Fridays from 8:30am-5:15pm, totalling hours per week. Babraham Nursery is a workplace Nursery primarily for the use of staff at the Babraham Institute. The Babraham Institute is a charity, which is world-renowned for its research in life sciences that leads to new medicines and treatments for human diseases. Babraham Nursery was opened in September 1990 and operates from a large house situated in a quiet corner of a residential area in the grounds of the Institute. It has a homely atmosphere and is surrounded by green fields and woods. It has a large enclosed garden with climbing frame, pathways and grassed areas. Babraham Nursery accommodates up to a total of ninety children on the Early Years register aged from 6 weeks to 5 years throughout the year and operates a separate holiday club for school aged children during the holidays at the local school. There is a large team of Nursery Nurses and Nursery Assistants who care for the children as well as staff who provide the meals and administrative support. A Senior Nursery Nurse leads each of the four base rooms supported by the Deputy Managers and Manager. We also have two cleaners who carry out regular daily cleaning. The Nursery is open all year round except for Bank Holidays and a one-week closure during the Christmas period.
2 Key areas of Responsibility To predominantly work in the Squirrels Den with children aged from months. To act as key person for individual children within the room, observing and planning for their individual interests, developmental needs and next steps according to the EYFS. To also be flexible and willing to work with all age groups within Babraham Nursery as required dependent on numbers within each age group. To plan, develop and supervise, with the base room staff, programmes of activity to ensure that each child s full potential is developed in the social, physical, psychological and cultural sense to ensure that the child s welfare as an individual and as a member of a group is paramount at all times. To compose regular reports on individual children s developmental milestones which they have reached. To undertake parent consultations and attend open evenings. To closely liaise with the parents/carers about their child s development, skills and behaviour at the end of the day. To have knowledge and understanding of the EYFS Framework. To attend staff meetings (TOIL can be claimed for these) To help at nursery social events and fundraising activities. 5 The Babraham Institute Nursery Nurse hours per week (DW-NN-P) INFORMATION ON TERMS & BENEFITS The following is for information only and is not contractual statement of terms and conditions. The Institute does not make contributions to other personal pension schemes. Restaurant Facilities Onsite Accommodation Social The Refectory serves hot meals and snacks and the Forum provides a selection of snacks and hot and cold beverages for coffee and tea breaks. The Institute has a number of hostels, flats and houses which can be rented. (There is currently a waiting list for all types of accommodation.) Sports & Social Club Nursery Nursery and Holidays Playscheme on site. (Availability of places is dependent on demand.)
6 Car Parking There is free car parking in the Institute Car Park.
