It is Saturday night at 8 pm and the local pharmacy is closed. Can the APRN covering the ER give Joe a few oxycodone tablets to take home until Joe can get to the pharmacy on Monday? Question 2 Pharmacist Tammy receives a prescription for hydrocodone for Peter Johnson. Everyone calls Peter Tank and the prescription is written for Tank Johnson. Can Tammy fill the prescription for Peter? What changes can be made by a pharmacist on a Schedule II Controlled Substance prescription? 1
3 Question 3 Patient Tom handed the pharmacist a paper CII prescription without the signature of the prescriber. Can the absence of a signature on a Schedule II Controlled Substance prescription be verified over the phone? Question 4 Dr. Eye, an ophthalmologist, writes a prescription for Phenergan with Codeine for a patient. Can a pharmacist fill this prescription? Question 5 Can an LPN who works for an orthopedic surgeon call in an oral prescription for the emergency dispensing of a Schedule II Controlled Substance to a pharmacist? Question 6 Pharmacist Jones faxes a refill request to the local physician s office. It is returned and signed by RN Susie? Can a nurse sign a prescription or a refill authorization? Question 7 Do pharmacy technicians that work in a hospital have to be registered with the State of Question 8 As the Hospital Pharmacist in Charge, Lois has the pharmacy technicians fill all of the automated medication systems on each of the floors. Lois also allows the pharmacy technicians to prepare medications when a pharmacist is not present. Do pharmacy technicians have to be supervised while working in the hospital? 2
