Szydlowski, MS, CRNA and Christian Cansino, MS, CRNA 1. Participants will be able to define ERAS and understand surgical cases it can be applied to 2. Participants will understand the cost-effectiveness of ERAS and improved patient outcomes 3. Participants will understand the pharmacology of anesthetic agents used in ERAS cases 4. Participants will understand clinical implications for practice and guidelines for using ERAS Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) is a multimodal evidence-based care pathway designed to achieve early recovery for patients undergoing major surgery. The ERAS pathway improves the perioperative management in two ways. First, it re-examines traditional practices and replaces them with evidence-based practices. Second, it encompasses a comprehensive scope that revolutionizes the patient journey through the surgical process. 6:00PM- 7:00PM Review of Mechanical Ventilation for the Anesthetist Lynn G. Widrick MS, CRNA, RRT, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center 1. Understand concepts of ventilation including: 2. Understand regional differences in lung ventilation and its impact on ventilation perfusion matching 3. Understand the phases that comprise a ventilator cycle 4. Understand key differences in volume and pressure cycled volume delivery This lecture will focus on basic tenets of ventilation. The impact of ventilation/perfusion matching on gas exchange will be reviewed. Classification of ventilator modes and examples of flow patterns in spontaneously breathing and mechanically ventilated patients will be reviewed. The lecture will conclude with a comparison of volume and pressure ventilation and the clinical relevance to the anesthetized patient. Classify the neuropsychiatric drugs. 2. Discuss the demographics and incidence of the utilization of neuropsychiatric drugs. 3. Understand the syndrome, symptoms, and treatment for serotonin toxicity. The learner will be able to distinguish between serotonin syndrome and other syndromes in the diagnostic pathway. Drugs that interact with SSRIs and can cause the onset of the syndrome will be identified. Treatment of symptoms and the syndrome including outcomes is covered. Leadership and Mentoring Cheryl L. The learner will understand the process mentoring plays in leadership development. 3. The learner will be able to list the possibilities for CRNA advancement through leadership. 4. The learner will be able to describe trends in AANA membership demographics, education, employment, and public relations. 2. The learner will be able to discuss current nurse anesthesia legislative initiatives and strategies, as well as issues affecting practice. 3. The learner will be able to discuss initiatives regarding CRNA Wellness, PAC, and research. 11:30AM- 12:30PM The CRNA will receive information on the future demographics and workforce trends in our profession. Also, the value of being a member is stressed including all advocacy efforts according to divisions of AANA, current legislative initiatives and ways the member can engage, and the member advantage program which are discounts and benefits of membership. Q & A time is included at the end of the update. NYSANA Update Barbara Capogna, CRNA 1. Explain the pending and current legislation in the state and issues that are pertinent to CRNAs in New York 2. Discuss the current House and Senate bills that directly affect New York CRNA practices 3. Identify means by which they can participate in their state association The purpose of this lecture is to update the membership on NYSANA and AANA activities throughout the year. I will

I will then give an update on national issues from AANA Midyear and Fall Leadership Academy. I will update the membership on NYSANA activities. Lastly Diane Frazier, our lobbyist, will give an update on legislative items of importance for the remainder of the spring. Business Meeting and Lunch The purpose of this session is to conduct the formal business of our state association. During the lunch we will review all board of director and committee chairpersons' spring reports and present the state ballot. Lastly we will announce the winner of the Kathleen O'Donnell award. Anesthetic Application of Ketamine for the Rapid-treatment of Depression Speaker: Zachery Feasel, SRNA 1. The learner will understand the profuse negative impacts of depression on post-operative patient outcomes. 2. The learner will review the pharmacology of ketamine and proposed theoretical anti-depressive mechanisms. 3.
