2 POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Resident Assistant Division: Scott Residential Management LLC Reports to: Resident Director/Manager Location: Scott Hall-Scott Village-Scott Court Mission Statement: It is your personal and professional responsibility to make Scott Campus the best provider of student housing and dining services in the world by creating a HOME AWAY FROM HOME atmosphere for our residents, guests and parents. Primary Function: The Resident Assistant s primary duty is to act as a link between management and residents of Scott Residence Hall, Scott Court and Scott Village, as well as to implement policies, procedures and regulations. In this capacity, the RA has many duties and requirements to fulfill. Additionally, the RA is to provide quality programming for the residents of Scott Campus Housing as well as assist in the office with assorted projects as needed. Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills: High School Diploma. Must be enrolled as a full time, second year student (at a minimum) at UNO. Maintain a minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Principal Duties & Responsibilities: Assist in ensuring the safety and security of all residents. Assist residents with building and/or personal issues. Role model appropriate behaviors and confront inappropriate behaviors in a respectful, professional manner. Demonstrate and encourage a community where diversity and inclusivity are not only accepted but celebrated. Communicate appropriate information consistently to all staff and students to ensure the health and safety of staff and students. Serve as a contributing member of the Scott Campus Housing team. Maintain a positive image of Scott Hall, Scott Village and Scott Court and staff through work and personal conduct. Understand and enforce all UNO and Scott Campus Housing regulations and communicate these policies to residents. Assist in emergency situations throughout the properties. Be willing to challenge yourself and grow as a person.

3 Training & Continuing Education: Resident Assistants are expected to participate in all training sessions scheduled to begin prior to the official move-in date. Please note that this training overlaps with UNO s Second Daytime Summer Session (Session D). Registering for this session is strongly discouraged. RAs are required to participate in additional, scheduled in-service training during the academic year. Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings (approximately 1 to 2 hours in length) as well as all continuing education workshops as needed. Attend one-on-one meetings with the Resident Director/ Manager or General Manager as directed. Training Dates include, but are not limited to the following: o May training (new RAs): Monday, May 11 Wednesday, May 13, 2015 o August training/welcome Week (all RAs): Saturday, August 1 Sunday, August 23, 2015 o January training (all RAs): Friday, January 8, 2016 Requirements & Expectations: The Resident Assistant position is a highly demanding job requiring much of your time. It is filled with many hours of both scheduled and sporadic responsibilities. RAs are expected to give their job priority overall all other areas with the single exception of their academic program. Resident Assistants are expected to give up conflicting employment. Resident Assistants are expected to be on property an average of at least 4 nights a week. RAs are expected not to be absent from the building overnight without prior consent from the Resident Director/Manager. There will be certain times of the year (i.e. major events) when all Resident Assistants may be asked to remain in the building. Adhere to a nightly 2 a.m. curfew. Resident Assistants will be required to work during academic recess periods (i.e. Semester Break, Fall Break, Spring Break, etc.). This also includes holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year s Day. Programming: Build community and actively pursue a personal relationship with every resident in your building. Help residents get to know each other. RAs are expected to complete multiple quality programs each month (building/floor and property wide) as specified by the Resident Director/Manager. Organize, promote and attend all Scott Campus property wide activities. RAs are expected to fulfill the bulletin board requirements set forth by the Resident Director. Maintain an environment conducive to academic study. Administrative Assistance: Assist front office personnel and administration with projects throughout the year as directed. Help during resident move-in and move-out with check-in and check-out procedures. Assist marketing and leasing personnel in promotional activities. Assist leasing personnel in building lease up. Assist in the Annual Resident Assistant selection process. Other tasks written or verbally assigned by supervisor(s) as needed.

4 RA On Duty Descriptions: RA-on shifts are from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. the following day. During your on-duty day you are expected to be on property for the full 24-hours unless you have a regularly scheduled class. There are few reasons that you should have to leave if you are on duty. RAs will be assigned one desk shift every week, one RA-on shift every week and one weekend per month (or equivalent). On-duty desk shifts are from 8:00 a.m. 10:00 pm Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. 10:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Scott Village. Scott Hall Desk shift is from 10pm until midnight. It is the onduty RAs responsibility to cover all desk shifts, with the average RA working 3-4 hours a day. Be available by phone on assigned duty for the day s demands. Provide tours and sell the property to prospective residents and families. The RA on-duty is to cover lunch and dinner shifts of the front desk staff. It is the responsibility of the RA to contact the staff member and arrange a time to cover for meals. Minor maintenance and/or housekeeping work (i.e. maintaining cleanliness of property, moving furniture, replacing light bulbs, emptying trash bins, snow removal, etc.) Terms of Employment: Preferred terms of employment run from May 2015 through May Resident Assistant positions are reviewed each semester and renewable each semester upon satisfactory performance. Compensation includes room and board (unlimited meal plan at Scott Residence Hall Dining Services during period of employment when the cafeteria is open). Additional office hours may be available though out the year at the hourly rate of $8.00. RAs are allowed to reapply for continued employment each year. Any Resident Assistant not fulfilling the terms of employment, the expectations and responsibilities, or who is found to be in violation of federal / state law, the University of Nebraska Omaha Student Code of Conduct, or Scott Residence Hall, Scott Village and Scott Court policies and procedures, may be dismissed immediately from the position upon the results of a staff evaluation.
