Part B Writing Grammar and Composition 1. Number the following paragraphs in the order you would need them to be so that the whole text makes coherent sense. Applying for a Disabled Parking Permit First you need to identify your local authority. It is the organisation you pay your council tax to? If you are unsure you can go on type in your postcode and it will give you your local authority. Applying for one Your local authority is responsible for issuing Blue Badge parking permits and application details may alter slightly from local authority to local authority This website will give you a link to your local authority s application form. Every authority has its own rules about the information and evidence it requires before it will issue a badge. Whichever authority you are with will, however, require very basic information and evidence about your personal details and evidence of your disability. When you have completed the form you will probably need to return it to the particular district of the authority in which you live. The Blue Badge scheme provides a range of parking concessions for people with severe mobility problems who have difficulty using public transport. The scheme operates throughout the UK. ForSkills LTD
2. Read the written by the new office temp to an important customer. Her boss thinks it is far too informal and has highlighted the bits she wants altering. Replace the highlighted words with more formal words to suit the purpose better. Hi Mr Brown Thanks for your order which we got today. We will be sending out your order asap. At the mo we are waiting for some supplies to come in before we re in a position to send your order on to you. However, we do expect these any day now and will send your order on as soon as we possibly can. I do hope you ll understand our position. We thank you for your patience. Yours... Sarah ForSkills LTD
3. Read the following information. There are several grammatical errors. Identify and correct them. Registering with a local NHS dentist The National Health Service (NHS) provide dental treatment considering necessary for oral health. It are available to everyone registered with the NHS. Private dental treatment provide an alternative source of dental treatments, including some which is not available under the NHS. Some dentists may require you to have an initial examination. Once completing your period of registration shall last for 15 months. Costs in a private practice is set individually by each dentist and therefore varies from practice to practice. You are advised to get a written estimate before starting any private dental treatment. You may be able to get help with your NHS dental costs if you are: under 16; under 18 and in full-time education ; pregnant or has just given birth; on a low income. The Department of Health's HC11 leaflet will tell you if you are entitled to free, or reduced, NHS treatment. ForSkills LTD
Part C Writing - Punctuation Read the following short report. It has been strung together using commas instead of recognising where full sentences are and marking them with full stops. Identify the places where commas have been used inappropriately and replace with the missing full stops and capital letters. Remember, there will be some commas that are in the correct places and will need leaving. Tea Remains Top of the Hots A recent survey of the drinking habits in the UK showed a marked decrease in the sale of pop as more people choose for the healthier options of water or fruit juices, interestingly, the market for fizzy drinks has fallen rapidly since the introduction of legislation preventing the sale of fizzy, sugary drinks in schools, it is expected this trend is likely to continue in the near future with the market share of pop dropping from 61% to 50%, at the same time, the sale of bottled water is expected to rise from 19% to 24% and the sale of juices from 16% to 22%, despite the increased popularity of coffee houses and the ever-increasing variety of the beverage, tea remains the most popular hot drink although coffee continues to increase in popularity. Now read the text through again to ensure it makes sense with the new punctuation. Rob saw this advertisement in his local newsagent's window. As you can see, it is full of punctuation mistakes and omissions. Identify where they are and correct them. Wanted Paper Boy/Girl Need some extra pocket money. If so Id like to talk to you Im looking for a reliable boy or girl to deliver papers mornings and evening's its important that youve got a bike because the rounds got a lot of isolated houses if youre interested come in and talk to me about it and ill talk to you about wages and hours. ForSkills LTD
Part D Writing - Spelling 1. Join these jigsaw pieces to make correct spellings with a common spelling pattern. Write the words underneath mud fle snuf dle bot ble crick bub tle et ForSkills LTD
ForSkills Assessments 2. Give the correct spelling of the plural of the words given. The first one has been done for you. one penny several pennies a. one key several. b. one potato several. c. one box several. d. one shelf several. e. one radio several. 3.
