Statistical Data 6 Different type of events and competitions were organized in the Institute, like Letter and essay writing and translation from English to Hindi competition (for non Hindi speaking officers/employees) to encourage participation of the employees. Department In Focus 7 Activities To conclude all these activities, a function was held on 14 September, which was chaired by Dr V. P. Myneedu, Head, Department of Hospital Administration. 2 P AGE 2 Mangement Of TB Under RNTCP For HIV Infected Patients Attending ART center Multi drug resistant TB is a looming threat to tuberculosis control in India. A cross sectional survey was conducted among adults and children attending the ART centre. Training in management of TB under RNTCP for HIV infected patients attending ART centers was organized on 16 September. WHO Fellowship From Korea and Myanmar A WHO fellowship program for delegates from Myanmar was held on 31 August to 4 September on the topic of Clinical Management of MDR TB. III P AGE RNTCP Modular Training The goal of RNTCP is to decrease mortality and morbidity due to TB RNTCP Modular Training from 6-JUL-15 to 18-JUL-15 RNTCP Modular Training was conducted at the Institute from 6th to 18th July The facilitators for the first half of training from 6th to 12th July 2015 were Dr S. B. Singh (Chest Specialist), Dr Anil Jain (CMO, NFSG), Dr Rakesh Aggarwal (CMO, NFSG) and Dr U. K. Khalid (HOD Epidemiology). The second half of the training from 13th to 18th July 2015 was facilitated by Dr S. B. Singh, Dr Neeta Singla (Research Officer), Dr P. Sethi (Chest Specialist) and Dr Puneet Arora (Chest Specialist). Twenty four DTOs underwent the Modular Training. 3
4 P AGE 4 Independence Day Celebration Independence day was celebrated at the Institute with usual enthusiasm. The Director, Dr. Rohit Sarin hoisted the national flag in the office compound. Efforts of the staff and the faculty in taking the Institute forward were acknowledged and praised by the Director. The Director and the faculty also met and greeted the children admitted in the Hospital and distributed presents to them. Dr Rohit Sarin, Director, attended the Workshop on Bedaquiline Conditional and Expanded Access Programme organized by WHO in collaboration with RNTCP, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare at New Delhi from 1 st to 3 rd July Dr Sanjay Gupta (CMO, Administration) and Dr Vikram Vohra (CMO, NFSG) attended Training Course on Hospital Administration for Senior Hospital Administrators from 29 th June to 17 th July Dept of Microbiology conducted an On-site Training on Drug Susceptibility Testing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis to first line drugs and Diagnosis of Smear Negative and Extra-pulmonary specimens from 21 st to 24 th July 2015 under the NITRD-Becton Dickinson Centre of Excellence Training Program. Facilitators for the training were Dr. V. P. Myneedu, HOD Microbiology, Dr Manpreet Bhalla, Dr Ajoy Verma, Dr Jyoti Arora (all Microbiologists) and an Engineer from the company. Five lab technicians were trained under the Program. 4. Five Nursing Staff attended three days TB Training under GFATM at NOIDA in three batches from 6 th to 8 th July, 13 th to 15 th July and 29 th to 31 st July August 2015: 1. Dr Rohit Sarin, Director, attended the Seventh Meeting of the SEA Regional Advisory Committee on MDR -TB in Mandalay, Myanmar from 10 th to 12 th August He also attended the Regional PMDT & TB/HIV Review Meeting of West Zone from 25 th to 26 th August 2015 at Udaipur. 2. Dr Manpreet Bhalla, Microbiologist, attended 2 nd Chapter Meet of IAMM, Delhi Chapter-2015 entitled Infection in Cancer Patients organised at Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute on 8 th August She also participated in State PMDT Review Meeting held on 26 th August 2015 at STDC, ND TB Centre, New Delhi. 3. Ms. Anita Rani Kansal, Nursing Superintendent, attended One Day Workshop on Boarding of online appointment system in all Government hospitals organized by Dept of IT, MOHFW at AIIMS, New Delhi. 4. A publication (epub ahead of Print) of the Institute faculty came out as follows: Myneedu VP, Singhal R, Khayyam KU, Sharma PP, Bhalla M, Behera D, Sarin R. First and second line drug resistance among treatment naïve cases pulmonary tuberculosis patients in a district under Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) in New Delhi. Of Pediatrics The Department of Pediatrics is devoted exclusively to the care of children suffering from TB or other respiratory conditions. The Department runs a busy OPD daily looking after about 40 patients per day out of whom about 6-10 patients are diagnosed to have tuberculosis. There is a dedicated pediatric ward having 34 beds for serious patients or those requiring surgical intervention. Patients having HIV co-infection are also looked after. D R S A N G E E T A S H A R M A So far, the Department has successfully managed approximately 400 children with bacteriologically confirmed MDR tuberculosis and 13 children with XDRTB, including 4 children with Total drug resistance and one case of Congenital XDR (Unpublished data). Other activities include teaching and training undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, training of DTO/STOs for National Pediatric TB Control program and training to International scholars from several countries. So far, WHO fellows from Korea, Myanmar and Bangladesh have been given this training. A 2-day Pediatric Training of Trainers Module was also successfully organized in which modular training was imparted to 137 pediatricians from across the country. Several doctorate students from other reputed Institutes have received guidance in the Department for their theses. The Department has been closely working with the Central TB Division in framing guidelines for Control of Pediatric TB ant national level. Some of the notable meets in this regard are: Guidelines for management of pediatric tuberculosis under RNTCP-2004 Meeting was held at NITRD ( LRS Institute) on 6 th 7 th Aug 2003 Revised Guidelines for management of pediatric tuberculosis under RNTCP 2014 Meeting was held at NITRD ( LRS Institute) on 31 st Jan 1 st Feb 2012 respectively Guidelines for management of Pediatric Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis under RNTCP with some important significant recommendations.
8 Department In Focus :: Dept. Of Pediatrics Contd... Research in clinical and epidemiological aspects of pediatric respiratory diseases is a major focus of the Department. Several collaborative research projects are going on in collaboration with International bodies like Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston (U.S.), Childhood TB Working Group of International Union of Tuberculosis & Lung Diseases (IUATLD) and Childhood Action Group on TB. Dr. Sangeeta Sharma was invited to deliver Faculty guest lecture on Experiences in Management of MDR Tuberculosis in Children from India in 45 th Union World Conference on Lung Health, Barcelona, Spain in We intend to continue our efforts to further develop clinical facilities as well as research.
