1 Michigan Department of Community Health & Michigan Association of CMH Boards Present the Following: Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale Training: 2-Day CAFAS Training for Agency Trainers Featuring: Susan M. Sabin, Ph.D. To participate in this training, you MUST be an employee of a Michigan CMHSP or a CMHSP contract provider. You MUST already be trained as a CAFAS Rater to attend the Training for Agency Trainers. 2-DAY CAFAS TRAINING FOR AGENCY TRAINERS Dates: October 29 & 30, 2014 Trainings Location: Michigan Association of CMH Boards 426 S. Walnut Street, Lansing, MI Training Times: 8:30am 5:00pm (registration at 8:00am) Training Fees: This is a free training. Space is limited. While there is no fee for this event, we request written cancellation notice if you find that you are unable to attend once you have registered. This assists us with meal counts and allows others to attend who may have been turned away because of limited space. The Michigan Department of Community Health, through the Michigan Association of CMH Boards, has provided funding for this initiative through a Federal Community Mental Health Block Grant. Note: Preference will be given to those registering who are from a CMH who currently do NOT have a CAFAS Rater Trainer. Arrive at 8:00am for Registration. Training starts promptly at 8:30am. Participants arriving late or departing early will NOT receive any CEU credit. There are absolutely no exceptions.

2 Training Description: This training includes a comprehensive overview of the CAFAS, including the scoring guidelines for each of the eight subscales. Training guidelines, scoring protocols, as well as training tips and strategies will be presented. Reliability Vignettes will be scored and discussed on site. Participants can anticipate passing Reliability and becoming a confident and well-informed trainer. Objectives: Explain the importance of regular CAFAS booster training as a part of using this research-based tool; how this affects validity and reliability. Describe 4 research and clinical uses of the CAFAS, including age ranges and appropriate clinical settings. Increase your understanding of the general rules of scoring the CAFAS and the specific scoring guideline for each subscale. Demonstrate your ability to differentiate the levels of severity of behaviors and explain how these differences are scored on the CAFAS subscales. Create at least 2 appropriate examples of items illustrating scoring rules; and maintain reliability by passing Reliability Test. Enhance presentation skills relative to teaching the CAFAS. Who Should Attend: Mental health professionals who are already trained as CAFAS Raters at all levels of practice (beginning, intermediate and/or advanced). Continuing Education Credits: Social Work: The Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards (MACMHB), provider #1140, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. MACMHB maintains responsibility for the program. ASWB Approval Period: 11/10/13-11/10/16. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval. Social Workers who attend this training will receive 10.5 Clinical Continuing Education Clock Hours. Course Delivery Method: Face to Face Seminar Certificate Awarded: At the conclusion of this training, you will turn in your Verification of Attendance form to the MACMHB Staff to be initialed. You will turn in the top sheet and retain the bottom sheet which serves as your certificate of participation. Evaluation: There will be an opportunity for each participant to complete an evaluation of the course and the instructor. 3 About The Presenter: Susan M. Sabin, Ph.D. has been a Licensed Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for over 27 years. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology at Temple University and did her internship training at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic. Since 2003, Dr. Sabin has worked directly with Dr. Kay Hodges, the author of the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS), a multi-dimensional measure of level of functioning, to train mental health professionals around the US and Canada in the reliable use of the scale. She also has her own private practice and consults with community agencies; supervising, training and performing psychological evaluations of children. She was a Senior Trainer for the Pennsylvania CASSP Training and Technical Institute for many years. Her presentations of CASSP curriculum included the CAFAS, Family Therapy, Psychological Report Writing, Ethics, Strength-based Assessments and Developmental Perspectives. She has worked extensively in Outpatient, Wraparound and Residential settings for children, serving as the Clinical Director of Northwestern Human Services Children and Adolescent Residential Programs in Philadelphia and as the Director of Residential Services at Wordsworth Residential Treatment Program in Fort Washington, PA.
