8 The impact of pressure ulcers on patients, families, carers, staff and the organisation is huge. The lifestyle of a person who has suffered a pressure ulcer is changed forever, their ability to lead a pain free, risk free life in the future affected.

10 How it started back in November 2011 The Stop the Pressure campaign was launched by NHS Midlands and East as part of their ambition to make life better for patients. Ambition 1: To eliminate grade 2,3 and 4 pressure ulcers
11 NHS Safety Thermometer CQUIN for 2 years An improvement tool, which measures the presence or absence of 4 harms: Pressure Ulcers Urine infections in patients with a catheter Falls New venous thromboembolisms (VTE)
12 What does the ST data show us? All categories ST prevalence data: April % Dec % July % Dec % The Incidence of new PUs: April % Dec % July % Dec %

14 What is the data showing us? 700,000 patients are affected by PUs 186,617 in hospital settings 46% in newly acquired PUs (ST data)across Country 50% in newly acquired PUs (ST data) M&E 80-95% avoidable Between Apr Sept % PU reported NRLS Between Apr Sept % PU reported NRLS..But we are seeing a plateau and variation Grade 4 14% severe harm category SI
