1 School of Nursing Meeting: NTC and BSU Joint Curriculum Committee Meeting Date: Jan. 10, 2014 Time: 9 am 12:00 NTC Attending: Nancy Hall, Carolyn Townsend, Sandy Johanning, Sheila Paul, Vicki Roff, Julie Caspers, Denise Meijer, Kay Rogers Absent: Deb Thorson, Tara Flint Called to order: 9:07 am by: Sandy Topic Discussion Outcome(O)/Rationale Approval of Minutes 10/4/2013 (SON) Individual Meetings Moved to approve, seconded Catch up NTC: ACEN Work approved new syllabi template on J drive. Updated all current courses to new syllabi format. Updated the Faculty Course Evaluation and Student Course Surveys to align with ACEN standards. Up to date on Faculty Course Evaluations Course Evaluation summaries. Approved new lab template to evaluate student lab performance to be used across all of the student s lab courses. Three courses will be using this form. PN is considering using the same form. Mapping adopted form that tracks program student learning outcomes and course and identifies where concepts are introduced (I), Reinforced (R), or Mastered (M). Created grading rubrics for all mastery assignments and nearly all other graded assignments & 2013 PN & AD end of program survey student surveys reviewed and data compiled to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. Course Evaluations and use of the grid BSU: ATI policy going through process still some concerns about placement of tests. Recommendation: take adult med/surg after AG whenever AG is taken (with associated points) Area of concern is that there is med/surg content in both AG and Family/Adol.?the need to collect data about and results Discussed methods to gather data and results last page table? faculty changing benchmark? ATI teach 10 week course (on line)?focused on their predictor results. We receives the grades from ATI. Board related content in junior year and needs to be retained through senior year. Taskstream integration faculty and student response was difficult roll out rocky however O: approved R: Official record Taskstream O: Requirements for ACEN Kay added NTC s minutes with attachments to Taskstream. Outcome work will continue spring semester and next year. R: Data is needed to evaluate student learning and program(s) Inter committee Communication

Cost to student will be put in the initial information and acceptance letters. Accreditation standards integrated into calendar. This process will continue to evolve especially the program review aspects. Data driving changes needs to be tracked problem data change feedback loop. Strengths and weakness of change so far Strengths: increased work accomplished Collaboration during joint meetings Weakness: attendance continues to be a concern. Communication regarding minutes and upcoming meeting times / dates NTC is starting to have more common days off so it is easier to find meeting times. Suggestion use electronic calendars and invitations? When we are in one office? How will this impact? Repository for reference material we do not have a common D2L,?J drive (are they separate),? the cloud, goggle docs,? social media sites Suggestion: appoint one person from each site to investigate potential resources Options: clean up J drive, google docs, Taskstsream, or other site, use Brianna as a resource. Remember the difference between working documents and final documents January 10 current meeting Joint meetings: January,?May SON meeting for May, plan on curriculum meeting the same day. Feb and April meeting separate Sub group Meeting dates: NTC dates pending BSU: Feb. 7 th April 4 th O: individual groups will assign a member responsible for minutes and submitting to Taskstream Vicki R and Denise M accepted this work. Needs program description NTC AS degree (60 credits, general education) in Health Sciences Broad Field aimed towards general interest students, curriculum on NTC website.? developmental psy? (lifespan) ATI policy change related to expectations and benchmarks sophomore. With curriculum committee approval some benchmarks may be changed see Dr. Hall s latest draft. Practice and proctored tests will be used consistently to assess and improve student knowledge. Policy statements: ATI Content Mastery Series assessments will be completed in the assigned class as listed below. Remediation is a critical component of the learning associated with such testing and will be required with each test. Assessments will be scheduled to provide time for remediation and retest (if required) before semester end. Points associated with ATI content master series (CMS) assessments will not exceed 10% of the course grade for each proctored assessment in that class. The comprehensive predictor assessments will be used during the senior year, along with the Capstone review course. Successful completion of the course is required to successfully complete Nursing Procedures for ATI Content Mastery Series: Courses associated with assigned assessments. (see attached schedule) Course syllabi will include points assignment for ATI assessment/remediation process Points for assessment/remediation/reassessment for CMS series will be handled as follows at the end of this document. Students who are unsuccessful in achieving a benchmark will meet with their academic advisor regularly to develop and maintain an improvement plan. Procedure for comprehensive predictor and capstone course: The ATI capstone review course will be integrated into Mental Health nursing and Role Integration courses, with points assigned for successful completion. Successful completion of the ATI Capstone Content Review will include completion and evidence of a quality pre-assessment assignment, weekly Capstone assessment, focused review after completion of each content area assessment, and quality post-assessment assignments.

5 Students must complete the ATI Capstone Content Review and obtain a minimum of 90% of the assigned points to successfully complete Role Integration Practicum. If a student does not reach 90% of points, the student is not meeting course objectives and expectations and will not be eligible to sit for the required ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor exit assessment given during Nursing 4201 Points will not be awarded for late assignments unless approved in advance by the course faculty.
