1 1 The following volunteer opportunities are available at St. Martin Monastery in Rapid City, South Dakota. are encouraged to work part-time at the monastery and part-time in outreach. From these, please select 3-5 opportunities that interest you and/or call forth your unique gifts. Based on your selections, we will work with you and potential work supervisors to build a weekly volunteer schedule that meets your unique desires to serve and fosters both your personal and spiritual growth. Job Type: Job Title: Main Duties & Responsibilities: Standards of Performance: Accountability: Administrative 1. Minister to the Merciful Love Connection Administrative Assistant Maintaining Spanish website, database, and social media for Merciful Love Connection, a nonprofit organization that collaborates with the Refuge of Mercy in Santiago, Chile that helps adolescent mothers embrace life with their children Advocating for the dignity of young women and their children so that they might embrace life together with hope and courage Offering clerical assistance Possible work in grant writing and fundraising Develop an good understanding of the mission and ministries of Merciful Love Connection Computer literate and experience in maintaining databases Spanish speaking preferred supervision of and report to Sr. Yvette, Merciful Love Connection Arts 2. Minister to Monastery Sacred Space Decorating dining room and common spaces for feast days Have and/or develop good knowledge and understanding of liturgical calendar and feast days Creative eye and have an interest in interior decoration Edna Marie

2 2 Chaplaincy Education 3. Minister to Good Samaritan Society St. Martin Village Faith & Spiritual Development 4. Minister to Elizabeth Seton School Teacher s Aide Extend the mission and ministry of Good Samaritan Society St. Martin Village to foster the well-being of residents of the senior living community Assisting Good Samaritan Society Chaplain in organizing varieties of worship with different pastors in the Rapid City area Contacting and networking with priests in the Rapid City area Playing music (singing, guitar, and piano) for Sunday services at Good Samaritan Society Assist in correcting papers and decorating bulletin boards Facilitate and assist with a computer program for kindergarten students Meet with reading groups, writing groups, and math groups Developing students writing skills Interest in working with the elderly Respectfulness for and compliance with policies and procedure of Good Samaritan Society Ability to learn quickly and take direction well Ability to communicate about God and openness to religious diversity Skills and gifts in music are an additional plus Interest in working with pre-school and elementary school children Ability to work one-onone with students and small groups Appreciation for the learning and exploration process of children Yvette, Good Samaritan Society Chaplain supervision of one or more Elizabeth Seton School staff members

Minister to Monastery Grounds and Gardens Spring & Summer: Tending to flower beds Tending to rhubarb patch Orchard pruning and weeding Raking and pine cone removal at homes Landscaping, decorating, planning creative spaces, and adapting with the land Digging and putting in mulch Compost and watering Edging and weed whacking Watering potted plants Fall & Winter: Cleaning and prepping equipment Shoveling snow Burning in open fields Have good strength and agility Bending, reaching, and being on the knees frequently Ability to drive in rough terrains Quick learner with good communication skills Ability to follow directions as instructed Edna Marie and the Maintenance Team Year-round: Pick-up truck clean-up Clean-up parking lot and garage Loading and unloading Carting materials Amend soil

Minister to Monastery Health Care Unit Taking elderly Sisters outside, accompanying them for walks on monastery grounds, and reading to them Taking Sisters out for appointments and shopping in town Assisting with paperwork such as scheduling and calendar Cleaning windows in health care rooms Waxing floors in health care unit kitchen with maintenance employee Interest in care and companionship for the elderly Ability to engage others in conversation and activity Demonstrate patience and empathy Edna Marie, Monastery Health Care Unit History & Archives 7. Monastery Archives Specialist Sorting and organizing materials Filing archive boxes Sorting through, cleaning up, and disposing of duplicate materials Occasionally preparing and organizing materials for display Writing deceased Sisters profiles when a sister has recently died Computer literate and ability to use Microsoft Word Respectful of systems in place and ability to listen to and follow instructions Handle antique, old, rare, and fragile items with care Practice confidentiality Have an appreciation for the sisters legacy and be able to think and work out of the box Edna Marie, Archives

Hospitality Minister to Terra Sancta Retreat Center Liaise with and extend the mission of Terra Santa Retreat Center, formerly St. Martin Monastery, now owned by the Diocese of Rapid City and renovated into one of the finest retreat centers in the United States Greeting, welcoming, receiving, and checking-in guests Answering guest inquiries and responding to emergencies Assisting with food service and general dining room needs including set-up, stocking supplies and cleaning Helping with maintenance including painting, repairing, gardening, picking up the grounds, and keeping the hiking trails groomed Helping with set-up and preparation for weddings Foster Sisters and relationship with Diocese of Rapid City and other persons, groups, and organizations outside of the monastery Personable and friendly, with an interest in hospitality and welcoming others Excellent customer service skills and ability to respond to emergencies or crisis situations Ability to act where needed and be flexible Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs. Ability to mop, sweep, and vacuum supervision of Reeny Wilson, Directory of Terra Santa Retreat Center and one or more Terra Santa Retreat Center employees

Minister to Elizabeth Seton School (pre-school and elementary) and Thomas Moore School (middle & high school) Library Aide Library assistance from September- May Checking books in and out and helping with book circulation Shelving books and supporting computer cataloguing work Updating collections in computer system Helping students find books Cleaning and dusting Taking care of plants in the green house as a part of the elementary school library program Ability to alphabetize Computer literate and able to help students with trouble shooting computer Good with kids and ability to be patient supervision of Jenelle Kirchoff, Library Coordinator Poverty Alleviation 10. Minister to Corner Stone Rescue Mission Extend the mission and ministries of Corner Stone Rescue Mission to serves the physical and spiritual needs of vulnerable people in the Black Hills Region Host a drive by collecting needed items in schools, churches, places of employment, community centers, or neighborhood Assist with Daycare in planning and facilitating activities with the kids, cleaning toys, and helping with other general cleaning and yard work Helping at Veteran s and Men s Mission by serving noon meals Mon- Fri, 12-1PM; bringing in Sat. or Sun. breakfast at 8:30AM; taking veterans Interest in direct services to the poor and marginalized Ability to be flexible and work where needed Willingness to comply with Corner Stone Rescue Mission policies and procedures supervision of Deb Berg, Volunteer Coordinator of Corner Stone Rescue Mission

7 7 on outings such as movies, the lake, hiking, tourist attractions; making cards and treats for veterans Helping at Women & Children s Home by preparing meals for 35 women and children or making a meal and bringing it in; helping with yard work Adopting a family and becoming their prayer warrior come alongside to help them with whatever is needed; helping with yard work, general cleaning and cleaning of vacant apartments Helping at Thrift Store as a dock worker to bring in donations from cards, sorting clothes and bringing clothes out to sales floor; organizing sales floor

Minister to Catholic Social Services Western South Dakota Extend the mission of Catholic Social Services to share in Christ s ministry of offering hope, promoting individual human dignity and strengthening families and communities by providing professional social services to people of all faiths in western South Dakota Assist with and supplement employee responsibilities in providing a number of services to individuals and families including counseling services, unplanned pregnancy services, adoption services, youth services, disaster relief Help with set-up, preparation, and clean-up at workshops for groups, businesses, meetings, and parishes Interest in social work and working with economically disadvantaged populations Willingness to be supervised by a project coordinator, be instructed, and take direction Compliance with Catholic Social Services policies and procedures Ability to work closely with vulnerable and marginalized populations Openness to working with people of all socioeconomic, ethnic, and religious affiliations in western South Dakota Practice confidentiality and appropriateness supervision of one or more Catholic Social Services employees Report to Jim Kinyon, Executive Catholic Social Services Western South Dakota
