3 Purpose To improve awareness and education among health-care providers and the community regarding the needs of patients with concussion and traumatic brain injury. Audience Physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, athletic trainers, speech language pathologists, psychologists, social workers and others involved in the care of patients with concussions or brain injury may benefit from attendance. In addition, special panel discussions at the end of each day may be of special interest to the general public. Objectives Review and plan for the continuum of care of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) Employ current neuropharmacological practices in treating patients with TBI Discuss resources for patients with TBI in the post-acute phase of their care Review and plan for the complexities of return to activity following concussion Recognize the role of neuropsychology in treating patients with concussion Describe therapy treatments for vestibular and ocular dysfunction following concussion Interpret current research for both TBI and concussion

Substituting Credit for Nursing Credit } hours Nurses will receive a certificate from Penn State College of Medicine verifying their participation in hours of approved continuing medical education. Continuing education activities which are approved by accredited institutions of higher education and that are relevant to patient care or professional nursing meet the requirements of mandatory continuing education for registered nurses in Pennsylvania, as required by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. The Board of Nursing recommends that nurses retain their certificates for a period of at least five years. Additional information is available through the State Board of Nursing at: dos.pa.gov Physical Therapy } hours Lebanon Valley College is a Pre-Approved Provider of continuing education for the Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy. Physical therapists will receive a certificate of attendance for contact hours, which may be used toward PA State Licensure requirements. Social Workers } hours Penn State is an approved provider as defined by Pa. Code Sections 47.36(a)(3), 48.36(a)(3), and 49.36(a)(3). Social workers, marriage and family therapists, and professional counselors licensed by the state of Pennsylvania can earn clock hours of continuing education for completing this course.

5 Patient Safety/Risk } 8.25 hours This program includes 8.25 hours of patient safety/risk management education as required by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. Please see the program schedule for the topic marked with a. APA } hours CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT FOR PSYCHOLOGISTS Continuing Education credits have been approved for licensed psychologists. Penn State College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry maintains responsibility for this program and its content. (Instruction for psychologists is designed at the intermediate skill level.) Full attendance at the session and evaluation of each individual session attended is required to receive CE credit for psychologists. Partial credit will not be awarded. Late arrivals or early departures will precludes awarding of CE credits. This program awards 7.5 continuing education credit hours for day 1 and 6.75 continuing education credit hours for day 2. National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA BOC) } hours Penn State University is recognized by the NATA Board of Certification (BOC), Inc., to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers. This program has been approved for a maximum hours of category A continuing education. Certified Athletic Trainers are responsible for claiming only those hours actually spent participating in the continuing education activity. American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) } hours Occupational Therapy hours Elizabethtown College is an approved provider for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and the Pennsylvania State Board of Occupational Therapy Education and Licensure. Occupational therapists will receive a certificate verifying their participation for hours of approved continuing education which may be used toward PA State Licensure Continued Competency requirements and NBCOT certification renewal. Speech Language Pathologists: will receive 14 contact hours for full program Day 1 and contact hours for Day 1 (partial credit) 6.5 contact hours for Day 2 (partial credit) This course is offered for 1.4 CEU s (entire program) (Intermediate level, Professional Area).75 CEU s for Day 1 only (partial credit).65 CEU s for Day 2 only (partial credit) Requirements For Successful Completion: Participants must sign in and out and complete a program evaluation.
